An update From North Carolina Ron Paul meetup
I received this North Carolina update in my email today. Read it a LEARN FROM IT!!!
"We voted to recommend 2 delegates to the national convention. Our
people lost.
Of the 157 members in our meet up, only 40 showed up, plus a few
probable absentee applications. 30 of them were not registered to
vote. 40 of them were registered Dem or Indy. (These are round
numbers)
Had all of them been registered R and showed up, we would have
completely dominated our convention. Our 2 people would be headed to
national and we would have more than a 2/3 majority.
Had every precinct done the same, then at the state convention, all
delegates chosen to the national convention would be RP delegates. We
would also have a 2/3 majority of delegates in our state.
....
Yes, it would have been that easy.
A few people who knew this have been screaming it from the rooftops
for months. Grassroots did not listen. We didn't organize to take the
election this way, which would have required no money, no rallies,
door to door, no phone calls, no national ads and no HQ.
There is still a chance for us to sway the votes of enough people to
vote for our people at the state convention next month, but it will be
an uphill battle. Rest assured that I have already begun to do just
that, but the sad reality is that our own people didn't register R and
s-h-o-w u-p. which is all it would have taken.
113 people in our district is all that was needed. 157 in our meet up
alone would have done the job with room to spare. We have 40, and we
can't change that now.
To all the whiners against the campaign, the ads, the money and
whatever the hell else you have been whining about for the past
months, read it and weep. It would have been that easy.
I now wonder how many of our group chose not to show up Saturday
because so many 'supporters' told them not to waste their time because
'it's over, we lost, stay home'."

This will not be the case in Wilmington NC
Not sure where you're from but this is not the case throughout the entire state. Wilmington has a HUGE support base and is very organized. Asheville, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Greensboro are also very organized as well so expect good things from NC.
Wilmington NC LOVES Dr. Paul
I hope you reach out
On the Texas thread it became apparent that they did really well in the organized urban areas, but many of the outlying areas had no one show up. Zero, not even for McCain. Delegate votes were just left on the table for lack of warm bodies.
McCain does not have the organization to capitalize on this. We do.

Bring A Printout of This to Your Conventions
http://www.dailypaul.com/...
And get lists of supporters and call them and copy your Meet-up lists. Not everyone is here on DP every day and they may get side-tracked.

Abandoning ship is dumb
I'm seeing people changing voter reg. back to Libertarian or Democrat. It looks like suicide to me. And I can't believe RP supporters are not registered at all? Is that "suicide in advance" of loosing? Let's WALK THE TALK. How hard can it be to fill out a registration card and get registered? And once you are Republican staying there?
I'm a Member of the Libertarian Party
I changed my voter registration to R just to vote in the primary and I walked 2 precincts. However, since I'm a member of the LP (and a libertarian through and through: Freedom!) it would be a conflict of interest for me to try and participate in GOP business. Plus, too many people know me. Accordingly, I have changed my registration back again.
I will be voting for a libertarian in November no matter what party they belong to.
That said, it takes the right commitment and the right personality to participate in the GOP convention process. I recommend it. Certainly this is our best chance to make the right change.
Please make sure to inform your Meet-ups of all the "inside" information about the delegate process and don't assume they know how it works or how important it is.

yeah, we actually had people come to precinct
convention training and then not show at the precinct convention. Dumb, dumb, dumb. What a waste. We still did pretty good, but w/o all the numbers yet, we think we only have about 40 - 45% of the delegation going to County. This could be a real problem. A few extra votes can make all the difference...every persons vote matters!
I went to my Precinct Convention
and we were allotted 16 Delegates, we only had 8 present. You could put someone on the Delegate list even if they were not present at the Convention, as long as they met the basic requirement of voting Republican. I had a list of Ron Paul supporters in my precinct with me. So I went through the voters books to find Ron Paul supporters whom had voted, so that I could put them down as Delegates. My list had about 30 Ron Paul supporters on it. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM HAD VOTED!!! Quite depressing situation. One of them I know for sure was a precinct leader even, and he didn't vote.
