Technology is advancing at a scary pace

I saw this on digg, honestly gave me a sick feeling when I saw it. Funded by Darpa.

Interesting technology...

I'd sure like to have a version of its stability program loaded into an autopilot...

However...let 'em bring such a critter into these mountains...

It wouldnt live an hour...

Remember King's Mountain...

They dont wanna come to the Blue Ridge...

They didnt then...it would be worse now...

The weather is too crappy to fly...I'm gonna go reload some more .40

Teaching Flying...and talking Ron Paul...and Liberty!

It reminded me of

an ADAT (from Star Wars...did I spell that right?) only with better balance.

I was hoping it was really going to be that loud though and not be quieter...it'd be easy to hear it coming then. People would figure out a way to harm it eventually...everything has a weakness...

I was thinking more like

Miniature Imperial Walkers--by remote control.

When the SHTF

I was thinking of hiding out in
the mountains somewhere.
But when these things are let on the loose,
ther'yll be nowhere to hide anymore.

I've been following robotics

I've been following robotics development for years and it's notable that the rate of improvements has vastly increased over the past 4 years or so. Especially with dextrous humanoid robots. Extremely impressed (and yes, I'd seen the earlier Boston Dynamics test vids).

Now imagine

a few regiments of those beasts taking the hills and valleys of Afghanistan, one at a time. And weapons and infrared are how far off from testing? It would surely be much quicker than bombing their weddings, one at at time.

To me, it looked like a

To me, it looked like a mechanical push-me-pull-you giant fly, and sounded about like a giant fly too. Anyone got a BIG flyswatter?

What about the space station?

I am more concerned about that. What if technology advances so far that basically we can maintain a city in space for the elitists, where earth becomes irrelevant?. Not in my lifetime I hope, or our children's.

They are firing on all cylinders if you ask me. Which is why the World needs to wakeup, open their EYES and SEE the BIG Picture.

wow

That was creepy. The buzzing sound was just not natural. It really bothered me.

For now, it's run on a gas powered generator ...

... but future power supplies will make it quiet. In the lab, it was hooked up to electric cables to power it.

People worldwide support Dr. Paul too :-)

The ease with which a mechanism can be

disabled decreases in proportion to its complexity.

That was freakish.

Now, just wait until they put a weapon on it.

They've already put a weapon on it

Precision weapons...Can you imagine?

someone out there is hoping to make an army of these things. Wonder how these fare against I.E.Ds ? In 20 yrs, like some futuristic crap-movie- these things will be patrolling our streets at night. Youll look out the window at 3 am and see one tear ass over to the neighbors car and level on the cat that set off the alarm. No hazardous duty pay, no extended health coverage for it or its family-once they get the production costs below the cost to feed and house etc a soldier- they will be mass produced- and no one will be able to hold the govt liable for wrongful death because we were all for them way back in 2010 because we rationalised "well if we have to be in Iraq for the next 98 years- lets get the robots to do our dirty work instead of our sons and daughters". Imagine being some Afgahani goat herding tribe holed up in the rocks and 30 of these things advancing...slow, steady- methodical. That would make even the most battle-seasoned warrior cry.

That was like

a horror movie. I can see the Blackwater guys riding those into the sunset.

I can imagine that one day

I can imagine that one day an Army of those outfitted with weapons along with really advanced artificial intelligence will be doing some major damage somewhere in the world...

Well, the military pours the

Well, the military pours the money into these unprofitable areas first, but the technology will definitely trickle down to the consumer level eventually. One can imagine numerous potential uses for ambulatory robots... better "wheelchairs", better prosthetics, better... pets?
