Book Suggestions about the Economy

I'm looking for books that explain the problems caused by the Fed and the benefit of the gold standard

Basically something that covers the spectrum of Ron Paul's economic philosophy.

I don't want anything too advanced, a basic overview of the theory.

Thank you

The Creature from Jekyll Island: A 2nd Look at the Fed Reserve

The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve.
(from back cover, endorsed by Ron Paul)

"A superb analysis deserving serious attention by all Americans. Be prepared for one heck of a journey through time and mind." ~Ron Paul, member of Congress, House Banking Committee.

Conspiracy? Council on Foreign Relations? CFR? John Birch Society? Where does money come from? Where does it go? Who makes it? They money magicians’ secrets are unveiled. Here is a close look at their mirrors and smoke machines, the pulleys, cogs, and wheels that create the grand illusion called money. A boring subject? Just wait! You’ll hooked in five minutes. Reads like a detective story – which it really is. But it’s all true. This book is about the most blatant scam of history. It’s all here: the cause of wars, boom-bust cycles, inflation, depression, prosperity. Your world view will definitely change. Putting it quite simply: this may be the most important book on world affairs you will ever read.

*****Highest recommendation, a page turner you won't put down.*****

"Liberty and Freedom for our Grandkids"

Peter Schiff is Ron Paul's Economic Advisor

he wrote a book called "Crash Proof" which I highly recommend. It's focus is on the current crisis and what you can do now to protect yourself but there is a good overview of how the fed got us into this mess. I would also read Economics in one lesson.

Great books.

"The Great Reckoning", circa 1991 / 1992....

Authors: Lord William Rees Mogg and James Dale Davidson

After you finish Hazlitt's classic

Try Economics for Real People by Gene Callahan. By no means as boring as the title might suggest. A very up to date look at human action, the markets and how interferring in the markets leads to the fallout we are experiencing. It's in the www.mises.org library too!

he also has some other interesting books and he endorses Ron Paul for president!

This guy's great!

I did not remember his name but I used these books home schooling my son. This, along with "The Road to Serfdom" and another book I can't remember were the curriculum for high school. These books really helped us understand the idea of libertarianism and Austrian economics. These are why I know about Ron Paul!

BY THE WAY, I looked this guy up and it is Richard Maybury, not James Maybery.

Healthnuttie for Ron Paul

If you are just beginning and you do not want anything

too technical, then I suggest Henry Hazlitt's famous: "Economics In One Lesson". It was originally written back in 1946, but it contains predictions, made then, that you will see to have come true in modern times and the fundamentals of economics that it teaches are just as valid today as then and as in the future. It is available online, for free, at:

If you look around the web, you can probably find in the whole book in a single .PDF file. Good luck and enjoy. Ron Paul has also written six books on economics and freedom. You can find Dr. Paul's books listed at:

I used this book for my kids

in high school, (homeschool). They had no problem understanding it, and they also knew right away who they were voting for, now , years later, Ron Paul.
