During the oil boom in OK
in the early 80's. Parker drilling company were capping 8 out of 10 new wells.
Parker drilling rig 201 (big rig 81, largest land rig built ) on the south side of I-40, Elk City, OK drilled deeper than 10 miles deep, Parker hit oil and gas several times. they pulled the rig and capped the well

I hope this is a hoax cause this would really piss me off its true. But it would be nice if we found out and gas would only cost $1.50.

nations to sign a treaty to trade their oil in dollars. The only 2 countries to refuse to do this were IRAQ and IRAN. I forget which segment it's on, but this happened back in the 70's. Oil is the new currency.
This is more than just a coincidence that we're currently IN Iraq and about to pre-emptively strike Iran (code word for attack and steal their oil)
These oil companies who met secretly with Cheney before we invaded Iraq should REPAY the American taxpayers every last DIME, and then PAY every family who have lost a member of our military for guarding the oil over there. This is a DISGRACE!
Kucinich mentioned this same thing about Cheney and the oil companies, Shell, BP and Conoco Philips when he discusses the need to impeach the criminals Bush/Cheney.

but when the supply is reduced and the price is increased -- even more than it is now-- then the demand will decrease and alternatives will be used. "Peak Oil" may be a flawed theory, however I maintain that the thought of a field in Alaska that would sustain the US for even 50 years at our current rate of consumption is, well, ridiculous.
I'm out on a rig 100 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico as I write this. I've worked on 3 different prospects in the last 2 years where the operating company spent $200 million on each prospect. They were dry holes! I may be wrong, but this implies to me that oil is getting hard to find.

You seem to contradict
You seem to contradict yourself a bit. You say that we will never run out of oil but then go on to write that oil is getting hard to find. That last part does mean that we are beginning to run out.

What he should have said was, I believe, the "hydrocarbon profile" or possibly "chemical composition" of the oil instead.

The possibility of 200 years of oil in this single field is simply bullshit guys. While I don't doubt that the government and industry do their best to screw us over, I'm a geologist working in the oil industry and can tell you that it is just not realistic.

To be fair... the article talks about 200 years worth of oil in 1977, not today. Our consumption is much higher now than it was then, so 200 years worth of oil in 1977 might be 70 years worth today.

Thanks for standing up for common sense here, buddy, but be assured that you are about to be vehemently attacked for being an "industry and government shill" or some such for popping this pet theory of, apparently, quite a few people. If these proponents of this Gull Island mega field realized how ridiculous it makes them sound, they woudl cringe. I got flamed last night for trying to inject some sense into this conversation, but it's a lost cause.

No post is above scrutiny here. Just because someone says something is so, doesn't mean it is so. That goes for both the original post/article and for Bugman's comment. Let's not arbitrarily pick someone to side with and prematurely decide who the "voice of reason" is.

Absolutely true! But I cringe when I see (well, read) people who adamantly accept and defend stories and theories with, shall we say, less than a comprehensive factual basis. Just because somebody, somewhere, claims that "they" are suppressing some truth or knowledge does not make it so ---- even though I am sympathetic and open to such claims, I still want a decent level of supporting facts before I will give such claims my support.
My feeling about this Gull Island story is that the originator, as so often happens, took a kernel of truth and expanded it into a bushel of supposition. (And yes, as promised I did read up on it last night, and was not very impressed by the thin veneer of "evidence" used to support it --- basically, just one man's word).
Truth is sometimes difficult to grasp
Thanks to "American Free Press" and its predecessor "The Spotlight", i have known about this deception for a long time. I received their publications since the mid '70's and have yet to find anything they have written about to be untrue. When they reported that Gov. Bill Clinton was chosen to be the next president of the United States more than 3 years prior to the election, I thought this was one time they had to be wrong, seeing as I had never heard of the man. I decided to keep the issue so I could show them how wrong they were after the election. Needless to say, I needed to send them my apology the day after Bill Clinton won the presidency. As they reported many times in the past, the oil reserves are there. Each time I would visit Alaska, I would do some snooping around, and it seems to be common knowledge among the natives of this fact. There have been numerous other reports that the United States has sufficient oil reserves to provide us with an adequate supply for the next 200 years. One more reason to work harder to get Dr. Paul and other Paulites in Washington!

Isn't the reason the Chevron well is capped is that they don't want to explore in the envrionmentally sensitive area?

no, it's not.
chevron and the other oil companies who had vested interests in the alyeska pipeline were not doing so out of the goodness of their hearts.
it was and is for economic and political reasons.

National Geographic...
ran a documentary on "Alaska's Last Oil" just last week. They mentioned a well capped by Chevron, and maintained that it is a "tight hole" (top secret), as all wells are, successful or not.

...well, i just read the ongoing dispute. what a colossal waste of time and energy for two boys playing in the sandbox.
i read the posts because i have something to add. lindsey williams is a good man. there is oil in gull island. lots of it.
there is also plenty of gas. lots of it too.
THESE WELLS ARE CAPPED. it costs more to cap them than to get the oil and gas flowing and keep it flowing.
to those of you who have not watched the video please watch it.
i say these things because i do know what i am talking about. i worked on the alyeska pipeline back in the seventies. i drove truck. my teamsters local was out of fairbanks, alaska.
i spent 99% of the time in a camp at prudhoe bay. lindsey williams was there and it is real. deal with it.

that would arise even if the oil were to be pumped. NO REFINING CAPACITY. This country has not seen a refinery built in decades. The oil companies will not invest money where there are not enough profits. BWAAHAHAHA.

...maybe there's multiple definitions for dorms (maybe a super awesome one) but I would imagine the most powerful people in the world wouldn't stay in dorms. They would stay in guarded houses, or just private jet themselves back to where ever they live.
Also, why would the most powerful people in the world be stuck anywhere, let alone Alaska for business?

look at a map of alaska. it's gigantic. find prudhoe bay on the north slope.
on the bering sea. you just do NOT fly in and out of there.
it's about as far north as you can get and incredibly cold.
keeping equipment running was always top priority.
these "powerful people" did just that. they stayed in the "dorms" like the
rest of us. theirs were a little more luxurious.

and to claim its only conspiracy is pure folly or Ignorance. Putin in the last few months even laid claim to the "vast" oil reserves under alaska.

Not every conspiracy theory is automatically true (or false, for that matter). But I like to have some facts to back up my beliefs, and I have to tell you, this Gull Island massive oil deposit reeks, to me, of noncredibility. I'll read up on it, though, and follow up this thread tomorrow.

Was a contract geologist for Chevron/Standard Oil Co. for 15 years. He was part of the team that made the discovery. He never mentioned it until several months ago when he told me to Google Lindsey Williams. He will not give me any other information, and I must respect his position on this matter.
And before anyone asks, I will not give his name.
