Now, I've been warned .... to buy a weapon and get training because when we are fully engaged in the upcoming fiscal tsunami, it is going to get ugly. Many people who are here illegally and on social programs will be angry and revolt when they are cut off from services, and citizens must be able to protect themselves.

I used to be a liberal democrat and I, like you, have also been reconsidering all my opinions on the issues, like gun control and abortion, since discovering Dr. Paul.

I was going to send you an email on A History of Gun Control (shows worldwide how a country's people are suppressed when guns are confiscated). It certainly changed my opinion to being pro gun. I will start a separate forum on that.

This is a controversial, yet thought-provoking article. Women of western culture may have won the battle for equality, but we may lose the war for western civiilization if we do not start to cherish the family concept and reproduce. ("protect the genetic instructions" as my brilliant elderly Russian engineer/neighbor implored his son.) I don´t have a gun. I used some when I was in the marines, but I feel no desire to have one here. If I start hunting I might get a permit and a gun, but I´m not so fond of shooting things.

There´s just this thing about guns...If comparing deaths per year in shootings or accidental shootings america vs sweden, you can see, here we have almost none. Nah, I´m not saying you should ban guns, dr paul explained it so well...but at least it´s something to think about.

btw, I'm a vegetarian and would never shoot an animal. A gun would just be for self protection. I would actually be happiest if there were no guns in the world, but as long as the government has guns, the citizens should have them. As far as owning a gun, Dr. Paul does not own one either, but knows we need them to guard against tyranny.

1. We have very high taxes, so heath care is mostly paid by that. We don´t pay much when we see a doctor or for medication. Of course we still pay for it by taxes. Though America is so much bigger and has a different history, so it might not work out the same for you, even if you tried.

2. Ron Paul, well, it´s the same as over in the US, not much is mentioned in the msm. Generally most favor the democrats. Think of it this way, our conservatives are more like your democrats, politics wise.

Our major parties are

Socialdemokraterna (social democrats ) biggest party
Moderaterna (conservatives) second biggest
Folkpartiet (Liberal party)
Centerpartiet (farmer party)
Vänsterpartiet (kommunists)
Miljöpartiet (green party)
A plethora of smaller parties

Right now, the conservatives rules in coalition with the liberals and farmer party

I would guess, most here like Obama the best. One thing though, we don´t like pro war talk, that´s very important over here, though not many are enlightened to Ron Paul.

3. Most people left Sweden a long time ago, it was much poverty back then, in the 1800´s.
This is a really good movie about some that left back then, and very famous, at least over here. I don´t know if there is a version with English text, but I would hope so.

My great great grandfather came from Sweden in the late 1800's, we found his boat ticket in some stuff of my grandfather's when he passed away. He settled in Duluth Minnesota, his name was Swan Anderson. Hopefully I spelled that correctly, as I am going off memory. That is so cool to find out the possible reason why he moved here! I will pass it on to my Mom, as it was her grandmother's father.

Swan is not a Swedish name, but Sven is very common and Anderson is the most common last name I think or at least top 5.

You should really watch the Emigrants and the sequel. It´s a moving movie and about their hardships, both in Sweden and America.

The movie came out here as "The Emigrants" . A follow up movie about the Swedish family's struggle is "The New Land" Both very good with subtitles.

I do not think without a collapse of the system, that the people would accept that, maybe a slow gradual shift. The reason it became this way, was because, in the 1930´s, the people was very poor. That gave rise to the social democrats, which since then has ruled most of the time. Since the system works pretty well for our small country ( 9 million inhabitants, less than New York ? LOL ) there is not much reason to change it. But as I said a slow shift is more likely.

There is a strong sentiment here that everyone should be equal. As long as the majority feels this way, I doubt it could change.

Though also remember, we don´t spend much on wars or the military, so it´s a bit hard to compare, right off the bat.

I discovered about Ron Paul last summer, when I was listening to Alex Jones, I like listening to him, cause usually I get the news before they brake in the msm, then. LOL

The first thing that got me hooked, was his anti-war stance, but as he explains things I have come to understand many things a lot better and on some issues he outright has converted me, by his brilliant rhetoric. Or almost anyway. Like Guns and abortion. Here we don´t have guns unless you are a hunter, and I would not like to have one, but I understand now, why your founders wrote it in your constitution. Used to be pro abortion, now I am not so sure.

He explains the economy so good also, and the economy works the same, wherever you are and it´s such an important issue. Whatever happens with the US economy will affect us over here also.
But the biggest thing for me that overshadows all other things, is the war issue. How did America become a nation that invades other countries and start aggressive wars. I had always though that would be for regimes like, the German Third Reich or other rogue nations.
