Shortages will start happening NOW! An insiders heads up from our wholesalers!

Just got the phone call from our MAJOR pet supply company...Our rep has informed us that the weekly deliveries we have been recieving since Christ was a carpenter will now be every two weeks and possibly in the near future they will be only once a month or longer due to gas prices etc.

When I questioned her further she said that almost all wholesalers in all areas of business...including food...were going to begin doing this ie..combining routes etc..which would make many products unavailable should they be wiped off the shelves in a short time after delivery...

Just a heads up. get it while you can...Shortly it may be months before store products can be restocked.

Well, in the meantime, do

Well, in the meantime, do like Warren Buffet did last year... buy railroad stocks! There's money to be made in all of this. Our railway systems are going to have a huge makeover in a few years and Uncle Sam is going to give them tax breaks to do it. This will also create employment. Buy now why the buyings cheap....

strike now by independent georgia truckers - link below

Middle Georgia Truckers Strike

"Approximately 30 men and women brought their trucks to Thomaston Monday for a strike they hope will spread nationally. They say 2-3 days without trucks will force U.S. politicians to take their cause seriously. "

What I heard

was that there will be a strike by the independent truckers, which means not the corporation truckers. I know a trucker that workers with a corporation, and he thinks everything is just fine. This all ties in with the Mexican truckers that they recently allowed to start trucking in this country. They are pushing out the independent truckers, but not effecting the corporate ones. It's another method to control supplies.

This is the reason for the TTC

They want to ship goods into Mexican ports, end run the American ports (high labor costs, strong unions), eliminate the well-paying jobs of American truckers and utilize dirt-cheap Mexican labor for the whole shebang. Wake up folks, before we're all broke and wealth is in the hands of the politically connected only. Tell your friends and family. This is an in for us to less overall aware folks.

i'm from Indiana and was listening to John Mellencamp last night. with this mortgage mess it got me wondering. i remember all the Farm Aid concerts back in the 80s early 90s time frame. i wonder how many of those farms that were lost are now government owned farms? or at least owned by big corporations as opposed to independent farmers. makes me think it was all part of "their" big plan for us.

Truckers may strike 1st week of April

This came from a trucker who intends to take part. This will play into a short term shortage. He advised us to stock up.

I heard Truckers were

already going out of business cause of high diesel prices.
Many were wondering if they are going to be able to keep trucking with prices going up and up.
Now the high cost of transport is starting to trickle down on everything in stores.

Not just starting...

I don't think that the high cost of transport is just starting to trickle down to the prices in stores. It's been happening for quite some time now. It's inevitable that when the cost of gas goes up...the result will be the cost of EVERYTHING else following suit.

I believe the big push to go "green" and grow corn

To make ethanol was part of the plan for food shortage. Consider this:
It takes almost as much fuel to produce a gallon of ethanol, so we aren't helping the supposed fuel shortage.
Thennnn----we are using valuable farming acreage to produce fuel instead of FOOD! We have a wheat shortage now----so how many farmers quit growing Wheat to cash in on the Corn for Ethanol?!
We have been IMPORTING more food than EXPORTING food for quite a few years now.

and its genetically modified corn at that Not so good for

the earth or its humans

But don't worry... Monsanto still has some real corn stored away in vaults in Scandanavia, quesiton is who will get it ?!

Thank you for posting this

Anyone else with similar stories, I for one would like to know.

The media won't report on this stuff until there are riots in the streets, so it's important to share information "in the trenches" so we won't all wake up one day and realize we're paying $5 for a coffee at Starbucks...

oh....wait....

Maybe this is what is needed.

Since the majority of Americans are too busy trying to keep up with the Jones' next door, maybe this will wake them up and force them to engage in the political process more.

And the weaning from indulgence begins...

Fear not... middle America will be weaned off of a lot of things they are used to - very soon. Here's the good news I see, though... Sipping my coffee at a popular bread shop, two retired ladies are talking about the price of gold and how they need to keep theirs in case the dollar starts to collapse. The week before (same place) a bible study group (seemingly) talked politics instead and couldn't get over how much explaining McCain would have before he'd get their vote. The Epidemic is the proliferation of knowledge, unlike any we've seen in recent times. It is the spirit of the RP revolution fueling this. Everyone is beginning to agree with RP - we just need the podium a little longer for them to board the train. Onward to the march! Onward to the convention!

Wow, good article...

... except for the last paragraph about having a deposit on all plastic sold worldwide. Here in British Columbia, the recycling/deposit program on plastic bottles, aluminium cans, etc is run (controlled) by the government (i.e. big men with guns). That's not a good thing.

Surely there is a libertarian answer to the issue of recycling? Well, actually there is; I just don't have the time to write about it right now - I have to go to the grocery store and return my plastic bottles for the deposit money :-)

I use my bottle/can deposits

I use my bottle/can deposits to buy an ounce of silver at a time...getting harder with silver prices going up :P

Go scare the sh%$ out of someone else

They control us with fear messages and you are helping them.

I wasn't trying...

to scare anyone...I was just passing along what was told to me today by our distributor...Things like this are going to start happening...especially to smaller wholesalers and small businesses...

If it doesn't hurt any grocers or consumers i am actually happy...because the last thing I want to see is my own business shutting down due to lack of product.

Lighten up.

nevermind that moron KAT.. I

nevermind that moron KAT.. I get so sick of some of these so called Ron Paul supporters bad mouthing some peoples posts.. wether is is preparedness or posts like yours... Like it or not people this economy is crashing.. the post Kat put on her is a symptom of that crash.. Ron Paul has said were in for tough times.. Even he were to become president things will be hard and rough! if you don't want to prepare so be it but people like tstorey should just keep their mouths shut! there is no way with all the indebtedness in this country that the economy will stay together so screw em!

Thanks Sierra...

I just get the feeling that people are assuming they are going to wake up one day and there won't be food at the groceries..People would utterly panic.

This is a slow process...Two week intervals now...next few weeks I might get the call that they can only deliver once a month and so on...

The only thing I can think is that small businesses who rely on distributors(like us) are doomed..

I guess Wal-Mart wins again.

Without posts like these

we wouldn't be fore-warned and able to use this time to prepare...it isn't fear mongering...just ignore posters like that.

Well put

:)

I welcome any news about upcoming shortages

I went to buy a few more staples today (almost done) and I talked to the store clerk, a very nice lady well over 60. She is aware of trucker unrest and the fact that most of our food comes from or through the US, and she is aware there could be shortages. She told me with a twinkle in her eye that she is preparing, or words to that effect. Its other people she is worried about. I was stunned. People are paying attention to events in the world and whomever said it is because of Ron Paul, is RIGHT.

Remember the early debates, everyone focussed on weapons of mass destruction and the definition of torture and terrorism etc etc ... and then Ron Paul spoke. What a moment,

BTW Our gas today is $4.84 a gallon ($1.21 LITRE)

You should be scared..

Then think it through and start preparing.. we're not going into a fun bit of history this year.

~They~ are not controlling us with fear messages with this post.. the OP is simply stating that the chit is going to hit the fan in short order.

So react to it in a positive manner, or put your head back up your A$$ and keep on keeping on....lol.

Save on your diesel...

My company runs this site:
www.fueladvice.com

It lets you enter the zip codes of where you are going, your MPGs, tank capacity, current fuel level and then gives you a route and shows you where to buy fuel along the way to maximize your savings. Our customers tend to save 7-15 cents a gallon on average. That is big money.

You can also use our site www.truckloadrate.com that will show you a route and the cheapest fuel stop on that route. That site's focus is rates, though.

Anyone interested in inflation will appreciate the graphs here:

Thank you for that information

appreciate it

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master... George Washington

This will end up with higher prices, not shortages.

Its called the law of supply on demand. If the demand is there, they'll supply it. There will only be a shortage if someone puts a price cap on the goods being sold. Without a price cap, the price of the goods will rise until it becomes economical to pay for the increased shipping costs.

All in all, this not a bad trend. In the end, it may help us wean ourselves off of oil. People will be forced to innovate and figure out new and more efficient ways to transport goods. This increase in transportation costs has been a long time coming. No need to freak out.

There's more to it

than just supply and demand, Jonathan. While you are absolutely correct on the fundamentals, I think you're a wee bit narrow in your understanding.

Shortages do not *only* occur due to price caps (I don't know who taught you they did, but demand your money back). Shortages -- and hence higher unit costs -- occur due to lack of production capacity (not enough oil refineries to make gas), lack of adequate raw resources (wheat crop failures cause a decreased cereal supply) and demand for goods that can't be brought to the market (truckers not being available to transport goods), among other things.

It is true that, when you're talking about most products, enough demand in the market will support an increase in the cost of the product to the point that it is profitable for the manufacturer to find a way to "make more," whether through importing wheat, or building another refinery, or hiring truckers at higher wages.

But there is something that it's important to remember: this is our FOOD SUPPLY we're talking about. And while I think Sierra is a bit overexcited (and annoying), I think it's important for you to remember that tomatoes sitting in crates that don't get taken to market can't just be picked up in a week or two when a driver can be found to haul them like a box of t-shirts from China can. They will rot in the fields despite the fact that New Yorkers are willing to pay $10 for a tomato.

Economics is fascinating, but let's not allow theory to get in the way of reality.

read where the wheat crop is

read where the wheat crop is at.. we have a drought or flooding and crops can't be harvested in the fall were screwed.. also those truckers are not going to work for nothing.. pricing caps is a stupid thing... thats what socialists do... If I were you.. i would prepare like you will not be able to get something you need in the future... if you will not its your loss.. like the poster said... she is being warned of shortages.. sometimes the law of supply and demand won't work if you cannot get the raw materials to make the product.. at least for a time period.

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

I just posted below..

And if you read it you will understand this...

Less trucks and more time between deliveries = retailers being forced to only order up to a certain limit...ie cubic feet to accomodate all stores
ordering.

Let's say there are 25 stores on a weekly route...And with combined shipping on a two week route you now have 50 stores to put on one truck.
They are going to limit the space each retailer can order...so supply cannot be met with demand..

I drive a truck and have for a little over 20 years, and

I believe what you maybe explaining is a thing called "forcasting". Do to fuel and other costs, they must attempt to maximize, and "cube" out the trucks and make shipments more cost effective. What is the min. order amount, $500, $750 a thousand? Believe me Hertz Penksi has many trucks to lease if the demand is there. They are not going to send a light truck out of route unless it is profitable. Its all in the "cube", kinda like the car-pool concept. Though the focus is on JIT performance. In case you don't know, JIT is short for "Just In Time" deliveries. I do see this hurting the Mom & Pop stores though.

Remember the past as you look forward to today...

I guess my point is, that

shortages will drive the prices up. With prices up, it will be economical to put more trucks on the road. So, any shortages will be fairly quickly addressed by increased prices.

why are prices up?... the

why are prices up?... the reason why your theory won't work this time around is because in hyper inflation prices go up faster then the people buying the goods can afford. there paychecks are not going up at the same rate!. truckers can't buy the fuel because they have not kept up with the cost of business.. inflation is the killer!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

don't bet on it! any other

don't bet on it! any other time I would agree.. but not with the way this economy is running!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

Part of this

I'm sure is because the U.S. is losing truckers like crazy. I work in a transportation-related industry, and the guys who drive the rigs are getting out. The high price of gas is shutting down independent drivers coast to coast, and working for companies often doesn't pay enough to make the rent. Plus all the fines and regulations on carriers...it's amazing we get anything delivered in this country.

Regardless of the availability of commodities, if you can't get them from point A to point B, you're -- we're -- in trouble.

I saw

a rig on the side of the road with a for sale sign on it today.

exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the truckers probably need a 60% rate increase? so that increase will drive the cost of food and everything else up... then the price of fuel will go up again... its a vicious cycle!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

That is exactly the point...

And our coutry will blame the poor trucker in the end...(Thank God mexican trucks are on the way!) sarcasm....

When I first heard this from my rep...I didn't even consider it out of the norm...At first...Then i began to think after I hung up...

Combined routes means more stores added to less trucks...Which means that it is possible that the longer periods between shipping could mean that we (the retailer) would only be given so many cubic feet per truck to accomodate each store..

So in the end demand would excede supply..

Very scary stuff.

if demand excede's supply

the price of the commodity will rise... until the supply and demand find a point of equilibrium.

This is a fundamental principle in economics.

not when you have the

not when you have the federal reserve screwing up the works!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD
