Ron Paul Republicans Surround DC
March 27th, 2008 6:19 am | by marc
"It is almost as if it is the second American Revolution has arrived. There are over 40 candidates, inspired by Ron Paul’s Presidential campaign, running for federal office. The media likes to marginalize the impact of the Ron Paul campaign by pointing to the lack of primary victories, but glancing at the list of candidates running for office at PaulCongress.com reveals the underpinnings of a genuine political movement towards freedom, prosperity, and peace.
Perhaps most fitting, six candidates are within yelling distance of the Capitol building in DC. There are four candidates in Maryland who have already claimed victory in their primaries: Collins Bailey, Richard Matthews, Peter James, and Mike Hargadon. The two candidates running for Congress in Virginia have primaries coming up on June 10th. Both are running grassroots based campaigns similar to Ron Paul.
Amit Singh is running in Virginia’s 8th District, which sits directly across the Potomac river from those grand white structures of federal government machinery. He’s running a strong campaign focused on the issues, as evidenced by our own interview series with him this year. He faces a primary challenger in Mark Ellmore. The incumbent is Democrat Jim Moran. Most experts believe Moran is set for remaining in office no matter who challenges him. It is up to those of us who actually believe in limiting the size and scope of government to fight that notion by supporting the strongest candidate able to defeat Moran in the general election. That candidate is Amit Singh.
Vern Mckinley is running in Virginia’s 10th District. His primary opponent is 28 year incumbent Frank Wolf. Wolf has never really had much of a challenge in the district. Hopefully, that will change with Mckinley’s candidacy. Wolf has voted in line with the Democrats on reauthorizing SCHIP, raising the minimum wage, prohibiting internet gambling, and supporting the REAL ID. Wolf has refused to sign the Americans For Taxpayer Reform pledge. Some accuse John McCain of being a Democrat, but Frank Wolf deserves that label. Beating a 28 year incumbent in a primary is an arduous task that requires a well funded and well run campaign. Mckinley is the right person for the job. For more read the first part of our interview with him.
Now that Ron Paul is safely back in Congress for another two years, it is time we elect like minded candidates to join him. Your vote is your voice. Say something."

This is awesome! Even if
This is awesome! Even if they don't win... they're making relationships and getting experience. Ron Paul didn't win his first election. Reagan didn't win his first election. Of course, I wish them all the best in this election. But also important is to continue on and when they run again they'll be more recognizable and as the issues continue to provide support for our platform they will be taken that much more seriously.
Remember, the impact of Ross Perot's run in 1992 was felt in the election of 1994 when the Republicans capitalized on parts of his platform to control the house and the senate.

B.J. Lawson Rating is Crazy...
Honestly, how did you determine that B.J. Lawson should only be rated a 2? That's ridiculous! He's one of the top candidates! Please reply with specifics on how you made this determination.
Linda Goldthorpe is 5-stars (and rebuttal to 'very slow email' )
I appreciate very much the poster's hard work to help Ron Paul supporters get a better grasp on who's most like Ron Paul. I don't agree with him on the ranking he gave Linda Goldthorpe (4-stars) and know that her viewpoints line up with Dr. Paul near 100% - she's a 5-star candidate if there ever was one!
His comment "VERY SLOW EMAIL RESPONSE" warrants an official response from the Goldthorpe Campaign. You be the judge.:
All emails were sent from a "John Doe", and came into my email address by default as I'm the campaign manager and assist Linda with screening email. Two extenuating circumstances are worthy to note. 1) Linda's hard drive crashed the week prior to the first email being sent, and 2) she had just traveled down-state from Helmer, in the U.P., to Ann Arbor on the day the first email was sent to us for a very intense, 3-day meeting meet with one of the top political web developers available, to work on the new campaign web design (which will be unveiled in a few days and is one to be emulated). She was without her computer during this time, and in Ann Arbor until Wednesday, April 2nd.
1st email request sent Sunday, 3-30-08, at 9:59 a.m. I briefed Linda over the phone about the email late Sunday night but didn't actually forward it to her until Tuesday morning at 7:46 a.m. She responded back to me at 10:14 a.m. Tuesday with a response that she sent from her webmaster / IT manger / Graphic Designer / and 16 year old son's computer. Keep in mind, we're at a critical planning meeting working on an essential part of our campaign (and still were talking about John Doe's email in the midst of things going on).
2nd.email request from John Doe sent Wednesday, 4-2-08, at 5:26 a.m. - same message with "this is my second attempt emailing you" added to top.
Linda was enroute back to Helmer most of that day (roughly a 6 hour drive).
3rd.and final email request from John Doe sent Thursday, 4-3-08, at 12:43 a.m. We responded at 7:24 p.m. that day (a total lapsed time of 3 days, 22 hours) with our response to him below:
"Dear John:
Thank you for being patient for Linda’s answer to your question. I had a chance to ask Linda to address your question directly, and this is what she had to say:
“The Constitution is very specific about what Congress is permitted to regulate. California permits the medical use of marijuana…but once in a while, the DEA raids the legal distribution centers. This is not only irrational, but a tremendous waste of resources. States are constitutionally responsible for their own criminal laws. We have the highest prison population of any country on the planet, and a good percentage of these people are non-violent drug users – taxpayers are often required to support their families while they’re in prison.”
I hope that this clarifies her position, in your mind. Thank you for your interest in our campaign."
--End Response
Fellow Ron Paul supporters - we are working our butts off here in Michigan to move this campaign forward. We'll have an awesome supporter central website up in a few days (very much like Dr. Paul's); we're pushing for a four-debate series (two in the Upper Peninsula, and two in the Lower Peninsula) between the Linda and the other two candidates (complete with live web casts of the debates. We have a very neat special event lined up (to be disclosed in the next few weeks) that has the capacity to draw national attention, and shake things up here. We need financial support now! Postage, gas, printing - they all cost money. And we'll need a big war chest come July for media buys.
We need YOUR help! Thank you to the folks who've donated to our campaign already - our donations on "Slatecard" (the official Republican fundraising site our opponent is using) are approaching $600. Our opponent has $1700. Can't you all just pitch in a token $10 bucks and put us up over the top in short order? 200 of you online right now would put us ahead of the so-called front-runner in this race! C'mon, join us in our fight! Ron Paul WILL NOT be joined by many in Congress if we can't support them NOW!
Contribute $10, $20, or $100 now at www.slatecard.com/candida...

After reading the post here on DP I knew Linda would be busy and that's why i sent her 3 emails and gave her 4 days before almost putting her in the one star no name category.
"Sent Sun, 30 Mar 2008 19:58:46 - Answer received Thu, 3 Apr 2008 20:23:31"
Most of the candidates only got 1 email, so i was very patient with her in that respect.
I guess i was spoiled a bit after receiving a detailed response to my questions from David Gay within minutes,WOW!
Plus over 90% of the other candidates on the list responded within 24hrs. and most of them within 12 hours and in great detail.
Also a bunch of the 5 star candidates were emailing me saying they needed some support ASAP and were hungry to see my thread posted! so again, i feel i was very fair and patient with her under the circumstances.
The email questions were meant to be tough constitutional test questions with no mention of geographical location party affiliation or what i was doing. this was done so as not to influence the answers. some candidates got 2 questions others up to 4 or more depending on their website info. the questions ranged from drug policy to abolishing the IRS and war questions etc.
Basically, i thought she was running from the question's like some others did.
I just want to make sure all the candidates are on the same page (the constitution) before we give them our support and send money. i encourage everyone to do their own research.
You know her personally and say "her viewpoints line up with Dr. Paul near 100%". thanks for explaining the delay.
I will give her 5 stars.

David A. Gay, Sr. for U.S. Congress: N.Y. 25th District
To anyone who might be interested in supporting a Ron Paul Republican from Central New York, I would like to introduce to you my brother, David A. Gay, Sr., who recently announced his candidacy for New York's 25th district seat in the House of Representatives. Here is the text of his announcement as it was released to the local press on Wednesday:
-----
I am writing this letter to inform the citizens of Central New York of my intention to challenge Dan Maffei for the 25th district of New York State in the U.S. House of Representatives.
I am particularly amazed that no one else in this district has stepped forward to contend for the seat on behalf of our beloved Republican Party.
Our Republican leaders should recognize the responsibility to continue serving our district's best interests on a national level.
As a true Conservative Republican voter, I will answer this call to action. I will defeat my opponent using no other guide for my campaign than the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. In Congress I will work relentlessly in defense of our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I believe we should eliminate the income tax, stop taxing Social Security pensions, respect private property, secure our national borders, stop government spending with credit we can never afford to repay, and bring our troops home from all over the world immediately.
In Washington, I will fight to keep the government out of our wallets, our bedrooms, our telephone calls, and our daily lives.
I ask you all to support my campaign for U.S. Congress. Please help us in our efforts; together we will restore true Constitutional freedom and liberty in this great nation.
-----
Please consider supporting David Gay in his Congressional campaign. He can be reached via email at davidandrewgay@yahoo.com.
Thanks and God bless!
Peter J. Gay
I will also be running (as a
I will also be running (as a democrat :) ) against the democratic incumbent for state respresentative in my district. (the district has never voted republican in its history)
Its cake on this level people. The incumbent spent less than $2K on her last run - and this is the 19th largest city in the union.
Even if you dont have the time or money just get on the ballot - people will tick your name for the dumbest of reasons.

sounds
like a good man I watched some of his videos. Lets keep the great candidates coming. Each state should set up a PAC. We started one in Boston, I have seen 1 in Nevada. And use these PAC"s to run our candidates and for change{not the kind Obama is talking about}. It is time to stand up and make some real change. Go into your meetup groups and get a PAC started. Start holding meetings, start raising $.
How do you
start a PAC? What are the first steps?
Thanks from PA.
My Dad is also running!
He's been a state legislator int he House of Delegates in Virginia for the past 17 years. He absentee voted for Ron Paul before the Virginia Primary because he knew he would be voting for him! And he was in Richmond at the time in session.
Check out his speech he gave when the House passed unconstitutional law imposing fees and taxes by an unelected body: http://www.youtube.com/wa...
AND, my dad won the case unanimously after appealing to the Virginia Supreme Court!
Here's what the Post said about my dad: http://www.washingtonpost...
I love my dad's quote in that article, "That money was illegal taken. To say we don't have to give it back is to say it's ok to steal."
Enjoy!:-)

He was wonderful! Hope people on here donate to his campaign. Thanks for posting this.
www.freedom-force.org
Someone posted www.freedom-force.org as the next step and I thank them for that information and agree that web site is the next step. Continuing to help the candidates that Ron Paul supports is also part of what we all need to do the rest of this campaign year. I thank whoever posted the above mentioned web site. I still like to hear Aimee Allen sing the Ron Paul revolution song regularly to put fire into my actions. http://www.youtube.com/wa...
The link seems to be broken
I think I fixed the link in my text
Thanks
just the start
many more to come... we have several representative races in nj with Ron Paul republicans no on that list yet. I am sure other states are the same...
What do you think?
Maybe it would be a better idea for us to money bomb candidates based on their state. For example, I reside in Washington State, so I would give my money to the candidates in my state. Maybe we can use our local network of Ron Paul supporters from his campaign (precinct leaders who have the email addresses of those who signed up on his website along with those who went to the caucus). The reason I support this idea is because I can't afford to give very much money to 40 different candidates and probably most of you are in the same boat. If I focus on my state I can give more money. But I think when it comes to senate seats we should all money bomb them because they are in a higher position of power.
What do you think?
FABULOUS IDEA
BUMP

now
How about a Money-bomb for these candidates???
Can this be done? I'm not sure how it would work legally - would the amount donated have to be split equally 40 ways? Would a doner have to specify the candidate to which they are donating? Anyone with info on this? Ideas?
I take my marching orders from the Constitution!
PAC
If one created a "Liberty" type PAC then the PAC would divide the money. Not an easy task. There are probably PACs out there already that would be interested in supporting these candidates. It's just a matter of connecting the PAC to the candidate.

Wow, so many candidates near
Wow, so many candidates near and around D.C.
Maybe that is a good strategy: surround Washington D.C. with freedom, liberty and respect for the Constitution. Freedom is popular, as RP says, so it will eventually spread into D.C. from the surrounding areas and then into Congress.
You all know the saying, Rome wasn't built in a day. Well, the U.S.A. will not be repaired in a day -- but we are making progress!
40? I'm impressed!
I do not honestly believe that all of them will win in November Not that I do not like the idea, but much of the electorate is simply too shortsighted to understand the concepts of Less Governemnt and More Individual Responsibility.
I do believe that if we can get more than ten or so of these upstanding people to Congress we can begin to have a real influence on legislation.
We still have a lot of work to do over the next several years and it won't be easy. A lot of the groundwork is being laid by the good people who are implementing the principles of liberty at the local and State level through changes in not only the party platform, but the party leadership. This is where we can have an influence like never before in the selection and support of candidates that understand and agree with what is becoming known as the "Paul" platform.
Did I believe just a few years ago that my children and grandchildren would enjoy the fruits of liberty that have been quickly washed away the past several decades? No, I did not. Do I now? Yes, I have more than hope. I firmly believe that if I am steadfast in spreading the message of Liberty that it will find fertile ground in more and more people.
May we have the best of success.
Easier Than You May Think
It is not necessary for many of the electorate "to understand the concepts of Less Government and More Individual Responsibility."
All they have to do is check the right box.
It only takes a base to work from to sway the remainder. Make your candidate look like a winner. If you support him, they will.
The educational effort must be ongoing in order to keep the cycle from going so far into collectivism that we have to defend ourselves with violence, so it is very important. But understanding isn't necessary.
When we get critical mass, living in this country will start getting better. They won't understand that either, but they'll be glad.

If you are a Paul follower and find yourself at sites like this daily or even every couple days, you need to digg articles. Every article I come across I digg. Everyday I go and search Ron Paul and digg all the newest stuff.
Do not let people who always scream get off your computer and do something, discourage you from doing this stuff. I think it was are biggest strength why stop now. Hundreds of us come here and many other great sites daily.
So why does the FoxBusiness article not have a couple hundred diggs?
http://digg.com/political...
Also you tube. Go rate, favorite, and comment on all Dr. Paul videos. That makes them get interest and featured. It is not bad if you are a internet junky. We can do things from behind our computer to help advertise our candidate.
Thank you
I added that. Thanks a lot.
