Weekend Watching - FreeDocumentaries.org

Last weekend I had a wonderful conversation with a Canadian documentary filmmaker who turned me on to this excellent, excellent site: www.freedocumentaries.org. Like the name says, it is a bunch of documentaries that you can watch right online, for free! Most of them are hosted on Google Video. They are categorized by topic, and there is something there for everyone. Most of them you'd be hard pressed to find on TV (500 channels, and what's on?), or even at the video rental shop. Blockbuster? Forget it. Two particularly good ones that he turned me onto were:

1) The United States vs. John Lennon

Even though they were before my time, I've always been a huge Beatles fan. But in my naivety, I always thought John turned kind of "weird" afterwards, so I didn't see this movie when it came out in the theaters a few months ago. Boy did I miss out! This covers the turbulent 1970's, times that were more turbulent than the times we face today. The courage of John Lennon is amazing.

Oh, and if you think Lennon was a socialist, or whatever so you'll never watch such a film, then you might be interested in watching this one about the media first: Orwell Rolls In His Grave (trailer below), and examining how you got that idea in the first place.

These are just trailers. The full movies can be seen at: www.freedocumentaries.org. Let us know what other good ones you see there!

My

favorites list sure has grown since I got on Daily Paul. Don't forget Glenn Beck tonight (April 1)

great link

thank you!

worth watching

I have watched about 7 of these documentaries this far. These are quite good...The war on democracy was excellent and maddening. another really good one was Peace, Propaganda and the Promised Land: U.S. Media & the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

For those who say these are biased...All info is biased one way or the other, but it doesn't mean you can't grasp what is truthful in them....I had no idea the part America played in the Fake cout d'etat of Chavez in 2002...NOW I know thanks to documented proof.....

Thank you for posting....

translation

"these are biased" means, "I disagree with these" or "I don't want to hear this."

I really don't understand why ...

Some find it so offensive that Michael and/or others post things that may be of interest to all. This site encompasses not only Ron Paul news but articles that pertain to the state of current events, and the wide variety of issues that Ron Paul has been fighting for all these years.

I would be interested to know what Dr. Paul thought of the 60's movement.

I don't know if Lennon was a Socialist, maybe he was (I couldn't tell by watching the movie) but it was interesting to see how the situation in Iraq now so closely mirrors the Vietnam war. They wanted our troops back home then just as we want them home now. Looks like Lennon was targeted because he voiced his opposition to the War and because he had such a following amoung young people.

I don't agree with everything that folks post here, but I think the Daily Paul has morphed into a place where we can discuss the issues of the day both directly and indirectly linked to Dr. Pauls campaign. If that bothers some people than I guess they can stop visiting.

well that's enough DP for me

This site has gone from a Ron Paul news site to postings of the author's personal politics. John Lennon was a worthless drugged-out moron and the world does not lack for his absence. The "documentary" is a one-sided bash on Republicans. Forget DP - just because I'm a Ron Paul supporter doesn't mean I think Bush is the worst president ever.

William Buckley once called the Beatles "so unbelievably horrible, so appallingly unmusical, so dogmatically insensitive to the magic of the art, that they qualify as crowned heads of antimusic." . . . . I quite agree.

I disagree with you

As someone who grew up with The Beatles, this caught my attention... In all due respect to your opinion, I have to take a minute to express my view. John Lennon as a "worthless...". No, I don't think he was worthless. I will give you just one example that shows something he did that was worthwhile: he protested the war in Vietnam. To put it mildly, I think this was a VERY WORTHWHILE effort on his part and the part of many others!

And, yes, Mr. Buckley had a right to his opinion about the Beatles, although I don't agree with that either. For Mr. Buckley, perhaps he preferred listening to opera - and that's ok, people are different in their preferences to music, food, etc.

So, if someone sees J. Lennon as a person (admittedly with many faults, like most of us) who did actually try to make a positive difference in the world, then I can not see how he could be categorized as "worthless...".

And, in this world of chaos, I try to stop and remember that no person (i.e., Bush) is 100% bad. If the documentary was truly one-sided bash on Bush, then I don't think that is right. I think we should try to be honest and fair in our appraisal and judgements of others.

Peace to you.

John Lennon was a Socialist

and a globalist. He would be a member of the CFR if he thought it would usher in his "Imagine" world. I loved the Beatles and still love their music. John was right to fight the war and everything about it but his world solutions were definitely socialist and that is why I could never really get into his political ideology. Appreciate the site, Michael, and the meaningful discourse.

Healthnut4freedom

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5,6

"From the Makers of Fahrenheit 9/11"

The fact that this movie is from the guys who brought us Michael Moore makes me a little suspicious. Moore wants even more government control than we have today and he isn't a big fan of free markets. That's pretty much the opposite of Ron Paul.

Orwell Rolls in His Grave isn't good

Extremely biased (and therefore extremely hypocritical) and the name, from what I can tell, is quite misleading. I watched the first half hour and it all about how terrible Republicans are and how Bush stole the election.

Think that if you want, but don't waste my time by pretending as though this is a documentary about media corruption overall. It clearly is anti-Republican and that one-sidedness (not the Republican bashing, because who cares about that) bothered me as they tried to present themselves as a voice of truth.

And Bernie Sanders, who they continually interview in this documentary, is no small government guy and he, along with the overall tone of the documentary, doesn't fit us I don't think.

They also say you have to have a lot of money to get face time. We know this isn't true - see Huckabee. Some of the assumptions in this documentary (like that one) are not as they present them. I believe it goes beyond money. Ron Paul was becoming a grassroots rockstar and the media needed a different grassroots rockstar to drown him out so they created Huckabee. No money about it (at least from Huckabee's end and he was the one getting the face time).

Del Ponte's Dirty Conscience

Del Ponte Knew About Serbian Mass Graves Since 2001
According to Tanjug, former head of the Coordinating Center for Kosovo and Metohija Nebojsa Covic has said that seven years ago Serbian authorities presented to the ICTY Prosecution a list of locations of potential mass graves and secret prison camps in Kosovo-Metohija and northern Albania, where kidnapped Kosovo Serbs were killed and buried.

In an interview with the Serbian Radio Television, Covic said that they had never received a reply from former ICTY chief prosecutor Carla del Ponte regarding the material Serbian security services handed over.

“The only answer was that KFOR did not want to cooperate, that a number of data had been lost when first KFOR troops left Kosovo and that UNMIK refused to cooperate, which I was also assured of,” he said.

Covic said that Del Ponte had never raised that issue and assessed that the fact she had mentioned the case in her book “Hunt - Me and War Criminals” represented an attempt of “biography laundering.”

He assessed that by doing that, she was trying “to solve the problems that have to do with her guilty conscience,” and that it was probably some sort of a marketing move so that her book sells better.

In the book, Carl del Ponte says that ICTY investigators and UNMIK officials received information that in the summer of 1999, Kosovo Albanians put over 300 kidnapped Serbs in trucks and transported them across the border to northern Albania, where their vital organs were extracted and sold.

Del Ponte and Hartmann to be Interrogated by Serbia's War Crimes Prosecution.

Meanwhile, Serbia War Crime Prosecutor's spokesman told RTS the investigative judge will seek to interrogate Carla del Ponte and Florence Hartmann, former ICTY spokeswoman, regarding the fate of the kidnapped Kosovo Serbs whose vital organs were extracted for sale.

Both Del Ponte and Hartmann have stated during the past few days that certain UNMIK officials have blocked the investigation of the grisly crimes.

The Association of Families of Kidnapped and Killed Kosovo-Metohija Serbs have questioned the reasons for Del Ponte to keep silent about this monstrous crime until now, even though she was aware of the human organ trafficking KLA was using kidnapped Kosovo Serbs for.

The Association's President Simo Spasic announced the lawsuit against the former Hague prosecutor for covering up the crimes Albanians committed against Kosovo-Metohija province Serbs.

what is really interesting is that no one in the western world is reporting this, CNN, FOX, CBC, ABC , and so on. She should be hanged for taking credit while the documentation was done by other and for keeping quiet all this time.

Site is officially bookmarked...

Michael, thanks for the link! What an awesome find! I just finished watching The United States vs. John Lennon and thought it was great. I don't know enough about Lennon to comment on whether or not he was a socialist or if so, to what degree he was. To me, that argument seems irrelevant to what the film is about. I encourage everyone to watch it.

Yes Thanks!

I'm watching US v JL and I'm sitting here thinking about how similar their revolution sounds to ours. I'm also thinking how he was murdered with the typical patsy taking the fall. Just seems weird. JFK, his brother, MLK, Mal X, John Lennon, all DEAD.

It's waiting for Mike, to give it the all clear? :D

Page of "must read books" posted to DP months ago ...

There was a thread started MONTHS ago where people were suggesting "must-read" books. I lost track of it before getting the thread in my bookmarks. Does any kind soul have this DP thread post book marked and if so, could you please post here? Thanks!

If you thought Lennon was a socialist...

...you'd be right.

http://www.worldsocialism...

Lennon was a fool. Yes, he was anti-establishment, but not in a good way. And Beatles music sucks.

Articles like this are fine examples of why I hardly visit the DP anymore.

You're an idiot

I was part of the 60's movement and at least we didn't sit back apathetic as fools like you. This was about the Vietnam war. The same bull that is happening now. The youth of America marched in numbers of hundred of thousands and the government tried to supress their voices of freedom just like they are now. Do your homework and read about the Chicago 7. These people were young, intelligent, brave and didn't sit on their butts doing nothing but whining and complaining like you are.

John Lennon was not a socialist....he was a pacifist that understood exactly what the US was doing in Vietnam. His music inspired millions and what did he get out of it? Shot and killed by a so-called fan. Yeah right and if you believe that, you believe that Bush is compassionate about Americans.

Thanks Mike for the documentary website....I have been searching for these for a long time.

I for one appreciate these types of articles...

I for one appreciate these types of articles that Michael posts. After all, it's his freaking website. But, I enjoy them and appreciate them because part of the "movement" brought to light (especially my own life) by Ron Paul and the message of freedom and liberty is that of education. How many of us didn't know what the Fed was? We do now. Michael only passes on this stuff in a continuing effort to educate people and I definitely appreciate it. If you don't, you have the freedom not to visit DP anymore.

I think I'll still watch the movie.

Looks interesting. I'm sure there will be things I don't agree with but I'm a "big girl" and I can take it. I doubt few are more anti-socialist than myself.

I'm glad you don't visit as much anymore -- you're venomous.

Makes a great bookmark, and you should definately forward it to people in your email list who would also pread the word.

Heard of this site a month ago

But hey atleast DP finally got on the ball :)

Wow, thanks...

Wow, thanks for this link manystrom.

John Lennon

I agree with his philosphy of peace.
However, if he did believe in socialism I would argue with him that it is the plague of our times.

If this socialist globalism becomes the way of the future, history will show that is was the most destructive force ever to walk the face of the earth.

I love these weekend watching posts

Thank you for this.

I had never seen this site.

I had never seen this site. Its actually pretty good, thanks.

U.S. vs John Lennon

was another good one. It reinvigorates your distrust of our govt (and for me, G. Gordon Liddy).
