Bush proposes financial regulation overhaul
Plan would expand powers of Federal Reserve

updated 48 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is proposing a sweeping overhaul of the way the U.S. financial industry is regulated.

In an effort to deal with the problems highlighted by the current severe credit crisis, the new plan would give major new powers to the Federal Reserve, according to a 22-page executive summary obtained Friday by The Associated Press.

The proposal would designate the Fed as the primary regulator of market stability, greatly expanding the central bank's ability to examine not just commercial banks but all segments of the financial services industry.

The administration proposal, which is to be formally unveiled in a speech Monday by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, also proposes consolidating the current scheme of bank regulation.

...The Fed would become the government's "market stability regulator," given sweeping powers to gather information on a wide range of institutions so that Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and his colleagues could better detect where threats to the system might be hiding.

The proposal is certain to generate intense scrutiny in Congress and within the financial services industry, where past efforts to change how regulation is handled have met with fierce resistance....

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Federal Reserve would have the power to regulate virtually the entire banking and securities industry under proposals to be unveiled Monday by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, according to a summary of the proposals provided to CNN late Friday.

More to come

Someone once said to me "Bush has less than a year left so don't worry"
I laughed and said "Do you know how much more damage he can do to this country in less than 1 year?" This type of thing will continue to escalate until the FED, big bankers, wallstreet and corporate America has everything they want as far as power and money before everything collapses.

Do you want to do something? Call your Congressmen and tell them to get the book "Economics for Dummies". Congress is so stupid as to let all of this happen to Americans because of their ignorance and selfishness. They are throwing out the baby with the bathwater. When the Fed gets complete control of our monetary system then we have no hope.

It's amazing to me that the Fed will be able to force other financial institutions to open their books to them when the Fed is not required to even state how much money they are printing nor are they allowing an audit requested by Congress for years, to show their assets (gold and silver included). So now Baby Bush wants the Fed (private bankers) to have absolute power over protecting the corruptive way that they control us monetarily. Kind of like the fox watching the chicken coop.

Another point....does this mean that if gold and silver coin manufacturers are deemed to be a threat to monetary stability then the Fed can shut them down? Call your Congressmen and let them have it. We can not sit back this time and let Bush put the final nail in the coffin.

This is sick

Even though I have known their agenda is real, this is very, very disturbing. I got sick to my stomach when I read about this earlier today. These freaks have to be stopped before we are plunged back into the dark ages. There are way more of us than of them... why can't we throw them out?

SWAT Authorized

Didjya see the early article on this, issued by the NY Times (full article here)?

Quick Quote (emphasis added):

"WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department will propose on Monday that Congress give the Federal Reserve broad new authority to oversee financial market stability, in effect allowing it to send SWAT teams into any corner of the industry or any institution that might pose a risk to the overall system."

I notice the subsequent articles by ABC, CNN and MSNBC leave that little part out.

Or, are they using the term "SWAT teams" euphemistically, in that their small agency could quickly respond, storm in, take control, and then dust their hands of their operation?

The NYT article didn't put quotation marks about their phrase, SWAT teams, so it implies actual vs. euphemistic SWAT teams.

...well, what's the difference, I guess...all force, ultimately, seems to end up at the point of a gun.

The End is Near

The cause of the entire debacle is granted even more power. Justice is upside down. The laws of nature have been perverted. The plans for the NAU and the NWO are speeding up fasting than even I expected...

Leave it to the idiots in Washington to do the exact opposite of what SHOULD be done to fix a problem. Typical. RON PAUL 2008 Jazzloversinc

They are

speeding up their plan. Looks like RP and others have tossed a wrench into their agenda.

You are right

it is becoming more frantic by the day, and it will become increasingly difficult to whitewash their intentions. One can only wonder if people are going to see it for what it is, or look at it once again as some sort of salvation to our problems.

Why is it ?

It seems like everything Bush does is so impeachable yet he doesn't get impeached ? Everyone on Wallstreet knows that the fed is rapidly and purposefully destroying the economy don't they ? It should be obvious.

Everyone on Wall Street knows that the Fed is doing that?

You gotta be kidding me.
From what I've seen, most of people on Wall Street adhere to Keynesian economics. That is the think what the Fed is doing is needed is good.

And I really doubt that many people believe in this conspiracy thesis that fat is purposely trying to destroy the economy...

I think that's a folk view of how the Federal Reserve works. The Austrian economists over @ www.Mises.org would laugh at it.

Here's why

"[E]verything Bush does is so impeachable yet he doesn't get impeached."

It's because the Congress is generally complicit in his crimes. To file charges against the executive they would also have to file charges against themselves as accessories. Whether the crime is the illegal invasions of sovereign states, McCain-Feingold, the Federal Reserve, or "No Child Left Behind", the guilt runs (almost) uniformly through the upper echelons of FedGov.

Investors BEWARE!!

http://www.nytimes.com/20...

It says,
"Under the Treasury proposal, Fed officials would be allowed to examine the practices and even the internal bookkeeping of brokerage firms, hedge funds, commodity-trading exchanges and any other institution that might pose a risk to the overall financial system."

According to some analysts, it means FED can now force any fund management company to disclose where they are hiding their gold, so they can later confiscate that with ease. Also, a private banking cartel like FED, having inside information on positions of all financial institutions can surely make its owners and friends very rich by letting them in on those confidential information and let them make a lot of money in the stock and currency/commodity markets using that information. where is this country going? Are the people still sane enough to revolt against these sold out politicians?
