Holy Global Warming Batman! I just went to the Google home page and it's all black, in awareness of something called 'Earth Hour'. Go see Google for yourself. Apparently we're supposed to turn off all our electricity for a certain hour today, in awareness of worldwide energy conservation.
Apart from the fact that I'd probably wither away and die if I ever left Daily Paul for even a few minutes, let alone an hour, who the hell is anyone to tell me to conserve energy?
Now don't get me wrong, I switch off the lights when I go to sleep (well, most of them), I turn off my laptop monitor when I slide over to my two-screen desktop computer, I recyle aluminium cans (so I can get my deposit back), etc, etc. I'm all for helping the environment and lessening pollution. I even have trees in my garden :-)
But Earth Hour? Go jump into the ocean Google, you idiots. You want to save energy Google (and all you other hippies who are promoting Earth Day, like my teacher wife)? Well read this advice:
End the bloody wars. If the U.S. stopped their wars of universal domination for even one hour, you'd save enough energy to feed my SUV for a year, I mean all of Africa for the rest of this century, I mean power my P.C. until the end of time (which will be 2012 if McCain gets in).
You want to save energy? Tell Condi Rice to canoe over to Israel next time she goes there (probably tomorrow). Tell CNN to switch off their B.S. propaganda station for one hour and see how they like it. No one will be watching them anyway because everyone's T.V. will be off for an hour, right?
Even better - every single government in the world, from the U.N. down to the smallest local authority: sell your big fancy buildings, your parliaments, your Capitols, your White Houses, your Kremlins. Switch off all the lights and sell them. You need meeting space? Meet in the god damn local library or nearest school hall. Congress needs to pass a bill? Rent some space at the Washington D.C. local community hall for one hour. Can you imagine all the energy that would be saved? Who needs oil wars?
When the world acts on all my advice, then the Googles and all the rest will have the moral authority to come and tell me to switch off my power for an hour. Until then, I'll happily watch my 100 inch monster digital plasma T.V. guilt-free.

by turning on all the lights and starting my car and letting it idle for an hour. I don't know why suffocating plants is considered "green". Plants thrive in CO2 rich environments.
Earth Hour has come and gone here in Australia
my neighborhood went black -- except me. I was busy watching Dr. Zhivago on my plasma. I didn't feel the need to cut down on coal-fired electricity (they kept running during "Earth Hour", by the way) because our house is run 100% off "green power" a program our utility offers (solar, wind, geothermal, etc.)
As a capitalist, I like to support new technology and I like the idea of cleaner air. I also like to throw it back into the faces of the "lefties" -- I emit less carbon than 95% of Australia. I do it because I want to -- not because a government tells me to or communist group thinks I should.
I don't worry about global warming or global cooling. What will be, will be.

Does your electricity come to you on a different grid?
If not, how can you say that you are getting "green" power and your neighbors aren't. How do they separate it? If not, aren't you basically getting the same electricity, just paying more for it? Kind of like if you paid for premium fuel but all the "petrol" was stored in the same tank. How would you get any more premium fuel than the next guy who bought regular?
Australia is starting some pretty amazing projects as far as "green" energy goes though.
It's a system-wide reduction in coal-fired electricity.
If the thousands of households/businesses all canceled their "green power" accounts, new coal-fired power would have to come online--including building new plants.
I pay to put "green power" in the system in the same amount that I use -- I nett zero. The premium I pay goes toward buying electricity from wind farms owned by private Australian companies. The electricity utility only buys what us subscribers sign up for - some people only choose to buy 10% of their electricity this way. We buy 100% of our electricity this way.
So the short answer is: if you have a tank that normally hold 50 gallons of diesel -- I pay to put 1 gallon of bio-diesel made of used french fry oil (leaving 49 gallons of diesel).
I don't see this as being "hippie". I like the idea of helping local businesses and not buying fuels from the Middle East, China, etc. There's quite a bit of coal here in Oz, but, hey, I like fresh, clean air if I can get it. Sue me.
Some day I'll have my place in the middle of nowhere and produce my own power and listen to my music real loud.

I was an administrator for the Democratic party for over 6 years and i am well educated in the nomination process, I left the party to support Dr. Paul so i know what i am talking about.
Our founding fathers set the system up like this to assure that there would not have false or fruadulent support for a candidate thus forcing THE PEOPLE to become involved in the election process and to show actual support for thier candidate.
They wanted to make sure they would protect us from VOTE FRAUD and to make sure that a candidate did not win a beauty contest but instead win an election.
Any candidate and thier supporters can do exactly what we are doing if they chose to do so and i am sure from the reports we have received that Mccain does not have real support or he would have the delegates he needs registered as delegates to vote for him in the up coming convention.
Every state is different and you should be educated on exactly how your delegate process works and you can do this by obtaining a copy of you bylaws in your county and your state if you are told you do not have bylaws obtain a copy of the party rules for your county and state for this is the first step to victory AFTER YOU BECOME A DELEGATE.

I know many of you are new to the election process but don't worry.
I am going to go into some depth of how this all works so read and then read again if you need to.
Did you know that the delegates can actually vote to unbind thier delegates that are bound by state rules? Did you know that delegates can actually overturn and previous vote? Did you know the delegates have control of the entire process?
The MSM is not reporting how to become the nominee in a situation like this so i will tell you to stop getting your info from the MSM.
I know many of you are bummed about Dr. Paul not getting more votes in the states popular vote BUT THAT IS BECAUSE YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THE ELECTION SYSTEM WORKS : Let me explain to you the reality of how to become the nominee.
First stop looking at who wins each states popular vote for most of these states the vote by the people is really nothing but a straw poll and have no real bearing on who will become the nominee. The only way this matters is if 1 person receives 1191 delegates that are bound by state rules to be commited to that candidate. So if a candiate like Mccain now has 906 delegates now but he doesn't reach 1191 WHICH HE WILL NOT most of the delegates the state awarded him mean nothing and keep in mind in most of the states most of the people that represent the 906 for Mccain are actually Ron Paul supporters. NOW there is no possible way that anyone in the race can achieve this goal now because of the major split in state wins by the candidates.
Normally Convention Delegates do not matter because the convention is not brokered and we have a clear winner because someone has 1191 delegates. BUT THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT. This will be a brokered convention there is no way around it. Do you see how the ronpaul campaign strategy will work.
When a candidate wins delegates by winning a primary that does not mean there are actual people that won acting as delegates- these are virtual delegates.
What do I mean by virtual delegates: A virtual delegate is just a number - there are no actual people YET that will go and vote for the candidate who won the particular state at the national convention. We call these people convention delegates
The actual delegates are voted on (in most states) at a statewide delegate caucus after the Primary (which is just a giant preference poll) Who can be delegates? Anyone. In closed Primary states they must be registered Republicans, in Open Primary states they can be Republicans, Democrats, Independents.

And we have lots of delegates.
Out of the 2,380 delegates sent to Minneapolis St. Paul in September-
-463 delegates are bound all the way through the convention some of those 463 are Ron Pauls people.
- 565 delegates will be bound through one ballot. That is, they have to follow the results of the state election on the first ballot. After that, if no candidate has a majority of delegates, they are free to vote as they please and Mccain will not receive over 50% on the first ballot.
- 383 will be bound through two ballots then they are free to vote for whom they wish.
- 318 will be bound through three ballots then they are free to vote for whom they wish.

Bottom line is less than 1/2 of the delegates are bound by state party rules. Now do you see how we can win this thing?
So what happens now you ask? You look at the number of delegates that Dr. Paul has that are uncommited to the other candidates and will support him. these delegates are not decided by the popular vote ie: straw poll of the people. Since no one will have enough delegates to skate them through to the nomination we now must look at how many delegates NOT VOTES but delegates Dr. Paul has that are 100% uncommited to the other candidates and will be 100% for Dr. Paul and are free to vote for whom they wish.
This race will go all the way to the convention for there is no other way for someone to receive the nomintaion untill the convention.
The RNC will convene its annual Winter Meeting - and voters will continue to cast their ballots in the nation's primaries and caucuses. Candidates for delegate and alternate delegate to the convention will be elected - and thousands of convention participants and guests will begin planning their trips to Minneapolis-Saint Paul The first week in September 2008
SO WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?
This means that all of the people that registered to become a deligate for Dr. Paul can go to the convention and cast thier vote for Dr. Paul, now think about what i just said : Do you think for one second that all the people that voted for Dr. Paul and filed to become a deligate will not show up at the convention to vote for the good Doctor? Of course they will just like they battled the rain and the sleet and the 15 below zero winter weather to knock on doors and wave signs spreading our message.
Now i assure you that even though we didn't win the popular vote in many states WE DID PICK UP THE MAJORITY OF DELEGATES THAN ALL THE OTHER CANDIDATES IN MOST EVERY STATE EXCEPT A FEW. So yes they won the straw poll and we won what counts which is delegates.
Doesn't Dr. Paul need to WIN 5 states to be on the ballot at the convention for the nomination?
NO THIS IS NOT TRUE for people were just confused on how it actually works.
We only need the majority of delegates from 5 states to be put on the ballot NOT THE POPULAR VOTE OF 5 STATES and i assure you we have picked up the majority of uncommitted delegates for Dr. Paul in more than 5 states.
Do any of you remember seeing posts by myself and many others that said BECOME A DELEGATE? There is still time in most states to become a delegate for the convention and we are picking up more of them every day.
So please STOP! you worry too much because you do not understand how the election system works and you thought we lost didn't you? I assure you we have not!
The fact is Dr. Paul is a genius in his strategy and we are further ahead in delegates than you think and we can win the nomination.
I hope this gives a better understanding of how we have been winning even though most of you thought we were not.

Seriously, if I was to wake up tomorrow morning and find that all the politicians of the world had been sent to Mars, and all the religious leaders had been sent to Venus, and Al Gore's fat ass had been sent up to block the hole in the ozone layer, within ten years from that day solutions would be found by private individuals, businesses and the free market for a huge amount of the problems that face the earth right now.
And that's not even taking into account all the current technologies that have been suppressed by governments and their corporate subsidised buddies.
Yes, all of us should be respectful to the environment and not be wasteful, but don't feel guilty for living your life the way you want. Even if every single person on the planet were to suddenly turn 'green' overnight, all it would mean is that the government would have more energy to burn the next day. It is THEY that will never change. At least some of us try.

I can't understand why it is such a big deal? If you want to eat veggies, do so! If I want to eat meat, I will do so! What you eat is none of my business and vice versa.

It takes alot more energy to raise beef than veggies and you spend more energy digesting it than veggies as well. It was a statement to any of the global warming nuts who still eat a ton of meat and try to tell me I can't drive an SUV. That's the point. It was not meant to be anything of a put down to anyone here or anywhere else. I do point out, though, as a health educator, that we do use too many resources for the amount of meat we currently eat. Most factory farmed cows are not fed grass, Bessie the cow is virtually nonexistent. Factory farming utilizes a lot of resources. Why do you think cows got Mad Cow Disease? They were feeding dead animals to cows! Why? Because people have to have their big macs everyday of the week. So, it is a matter of not being more respectful of the resources, etc.
Forgive me if I offended you but if you understood how much meat we eat now compared to just 20 years ago, you would know why I say the things I do.

Family farms and ranches in this country do still exist
and they raise beef cattle on grass and hay. It is important that we make the distinction, and that we support our U.S. family operations. We are importing more food than we export, and some of the countries we import beef from have a continueing BSE problem. We shouldn't import beef from countries with disease problems, (any food really).
If we don't stop exporting jobs and food production, we will have food shortages and other problems, as well. It is time that we all demand Country of Origin Labeling on all of our food, and support family farms.
I have to admit I bristle when people have to make point that they are a vegetarian, as if that is a badge of honor or something. I also bristle when those hard working families that produce the food we eat are bashed in any way! It isn't my business to tell anyone what to eat or what to drive. That is what Liberty is.
I respect the family farmer
and encourage my students to use them and avoid anything from a factory farm. If the factory farmers had their way, all of the family farms would be completely out of business.

Earth Hour, by contrast, smacks of desperation for self-actualization.
Rather than creating a platform for compelling, fact-intensive arguments about eco-threats or creative ideas for green energy, Earth Hour is another in an endless series of symbolic events that define intergalactic participation in "something" as an end in itself.

I support ron paul til my dying day, and agree with most things on this site, but this is one post i cant agree with one bit. Didn't your parents ever teach you that two wrongs dont make a right. I think our government and beurocracys are as dumb and thick headed as the rest of you, but if theres one thing ive learned from Ron Paul its that we should lead by example or no one else will do it. If you believe in global warming, then you cant just wait for everyone else to make things right you gotta take matters into you own hands and this helps spread the word. If you dont believe in global warming then dont turn anything off for a measely hour, and be the stubborn all consuming person that other countries hate us for, but no need to deter other people from doing it. It doesnt hurt you one bit. And what if your wrong, then your responsible, but if your right you hurt noone. Is this possibly just a marketing ploy by google, sure. But who cares. It spreads the world for people who want to help and does nothing to affect those that dont.

An Hour To Reflect (No Pun Intended)
My family and I are planning on turning off the lights, listening to acoustic guitar and smile on what is good. A chance to reflect on how good we have it here in North America when it comes to luxuries.
Three billion plus people live under candles and no running water.

educate people about weather manipulation they will continue to believe the lie of global warming. As long as the powers that be can create hurricanes and tornados, even tsunamis at any rate they want, people will think it is because of global warming. We should be working to expose this just as hard as global warming.

Even christians are buying into this "Global Warming" bunk. God said we should take care of the earth, but it is his footstool and we can not stop his plans for it. There are plenty of cedible scientists who see this "agenda" for what it is. They are pushed aside and heckled.

I remember reading some time back that all the planets were warming and that nobody really knows why. Is it true? Any astrophysicists here?
My understanding is that

this seems to be
the most realistic explanation, the sun is the #1 factor in the earth's temperature. Many scientists believe that humans cannot make enough CO2 to affect the earth at all. And more even say that the earth is entering a cooling phase which is much more dangerous than warming. I'm no expert, I just read both sides and see which one sounds like bs. I've even read that the earth is actually expanding and the marks are on the ocean floor to prove it, they say the earth will grow bigger and the oceans will become a little thinner. We already know the continents were all one called pangea and moved apart, maybe they "grew" apart.
