TX Conventions: Update HERE

Don't Mess With Texas!

Those involved with or closely monitoring the situation in today's Texas conventions, please post updates here, so we can be kept up-to-date on how things are going.

Here's a little something from today's edition of MarshallNewsMessenger.com (Texas-based news website):

Headline included: "support for Ron Paul may surface at Travis GOP meeting"

But today's GOP conventions in Travis County might test support for U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Lake Jackson, whose presidential candidacy ignited local excitement.

"There's some drama afoot," said Joe Pojman, temporary chairman for the state Senate District 14 Travis County convention. Paul backers "think they're the Vandals and they can storm Rome."

Austin CPA Robert McDonald, a Paul supporter headed to the county's GOP Senate District 25 convention, said "people favorable to the freedom movement" could control that meeting. If Paul-leaning delegates get chosen for the state convention, McDonald said, they could hold elected officials accountable to elements of the party platform emphasizing less intrusive government.

The most important Resolution we needed to pass was UN-BINDING the delegates. I was able to get it to the committee as a minority report, but when it came to the floor vote it was voted down. LISTEN: We have a chance to re-introduce resolutions at the state.. My Problem? I was elected as a delegate in my precinct and probably wont be able to go. I will not post the plan I have, but am willing to disclose it to you. I can be contacted either by phone 512.919.9772 or at honorgod at pacbell . net.. this is up to us to unbind the delegates if you want to get RP elected.

Honorgod, you are right on the money. Is there anything that can be done to make it so you are able to attend the state convention?

And, man, do we need a secure site for discussions of plans...

Live Free or Die - Amen to that

I'm in

I'll be going to state. I was agreed into submission pretty much.

It was basically just me in there as far as I knew. I submitted probably more than a quarter of the total resolutions, and I was the only delegate from my precinct. Main gripe was how long it was going to take, felt like all eyes on me.

Even the resolution expressing no confidence in McCain, they Agreeed with me! And then said he's the guy anyway.

So, I learned, I should have been talking directly with the leadership for these past few months. One of them even mentioned Alan Keyes. I learned more about the process.

It's not a takeover in any sense. It seems it's already been taken over somehow. McCain's record and Republican Principals, at least as stated in my county (they went by the 2006 Platform), are directly at odds and no manner of "read my lips" rhetoric should cover that up. This is a correction long, Long overdue.

One big consolation is there will probably be more supporters at the state convention, and there will have been more time for McCain to mess up.

It's like being in a boat full of people paniced about drowning. Or being on a plane that's on fire, headed for a mountain, and watching people hang themselves by their parachute cords before the plane hits.

Or like I said in a local paper blog, it's like saying "I hate chocolate, so give me the fudge".

NAU resolution passed. It's so odd being agreed with into the ground.

Approximately 10 RP delegates (of 80 alloted) and ? number of alternates (of 80 alloted) were selected to go to State. The RP resolutions all passed, but so did the Christian Dominion resolution to make "The Church" sovereign. This must be voted down at the State Convention as it is in direct opposition to Texas State Constitution Article I Sec. 6 http://tlo2.tlc.state.tx....

"Article 1 - BILL OF RIGHTS
Section 6 - FREEDOM OF WORSHIP
All men have a natural and indefeasible right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences. No man shall be compelled to attend, erect or support any place of worship, or to maintain any ministry against his consent. No human authority ought, in any case whatever, to control or interfere with the rights of conscience in matters of religion, and no preference shall ever be given by law to any religious society or mode of worship. But it shall be the duty of the Legislature to pass such laws as may be necessary to protect equally every religious denomination in the peaceable enjoyment of its own mode of public worship."

Note that granting sovereignty to "The Church" is to give preference by law to a religious society.

The OM Reports

Here's what Austin Radio Station KLBJ (590am) had to say re: SD 14 in their article, "GOP Delegates Have To Deal With The Surge of Ron Paul Supporters":

Another delegate, Peter Lowrie, says it seems they [RP supporters] were trying to bend the rules to favor Ron Paul supporters.

Meanwhile, the Marshall News Messenger has this in their story, entitled, "Paul Supporters Win One, Lose One in Travis County":

Rosemary Edwards, chairman-elect of the Travis County Republicans, said: “There are some new legs in the game. That’s grass-roots democracy at its best… It’s actually moving along fairly smoothly.”

Thanks again to those who have been reporting to us here...straight from the horse's mouth!

GOP Chairman thwarts takeover
By Denise Malan
Sunday, March 30, 2008

CORPUS CHRISTI — Nueces County Republican Chairman Mike Bertuzzi survived a potential convention takeover.

At the group's county convention Saturday, a man began causing a scene while committees were making reports. Republican county conventions nominate delegates for the state convention based upon the ratio decided in the March 4 primaries.

"We were able to stop that and take care of business," Bertuzzi said. "I don't know what their purpose was. They claim they were Ron Paul supporters. I can't imagine Ron Paul would put people up to this."

Paul, a U.S. representative from Texas and presidential candidate, is far behind presumptive nominee Sen. John McCain. The scene at the Nueces County convention appeared to be part of a larger effort by Paul supporters to gain delegates to the Republican National Convention. The Kansas City Star reported his supporters took over a county convention there March 17 and elected 170 of 187 delegates.

Bertuzzi, who chaired the meeting, said he did not recognize the group to speak and some members were escorted out by the sergeant at arms. Then about 40 members of the faction convened in another room in what's known as a "rump convention."

Rump conventions are a separate meeting conducted by a group that feels it has been disenfranchised. Participants can form their own committees and elect their own delegates, then send a report to the state party, which then decides which convention to recognize from that county.

Bertuzzi said he knew about the potential takeover attempt and how to handle it. A successful takeover of a Nueces County convention in 1988 split the party for years, he said.

"There was no way when I'm chairman that I'm going to let that happen," he said.

About 200 people stayed in the original convention, and 184 were elected to state. Bertuzzi said he expects the other faction to challenge his delegate status at the state convention.

Drusilla Knight-Villarreal, who organized this convention, was county chairwoman during the 1988 takeover. She described the scene Saturday as chaotic.

"I've never seen anything like it," she said. "And I've been involved my entire life."

Santimonious Self Righteous Hypocrites.

I was disgusted after reading the theocratic judgemental language at the top of the 2006 platform and from what I can tell in 2008 the religious wacko's are twisting G-ds word even more to push their Nazi agenda.

If G-d called something good Gen 1:29 then how can you put someone in Jail or prosecute them for using it and be a follower of G-d?

I couln't go because I was very ill with a ear infection. Still am and am about to go to the emergency room. But, I did work on something that could make a huge difference in ending the unjust parts of the war on one of G-ds plants for those using it for spiritual healing or physical healing caused by spiritual disharmony. (cancer, glaucoma, migrains, depression, alzheimers, ect)

I have a case comming up and have retained one of the best criminal defence lawyers in Texas and am talking to one of the best constitutional lawyers in the US who has argued before the supreme court many times. Luckily they are both long time family friends. But, should this go to trial it will be costly.

I'm sick of self righteous hypocrites trying to run and ruin other peoples lives in their g-d ordained third riech. They are nothing more than modern day witch burners doing evil in G-d's name.

News Alert ~ Cannabis is LEGAL for millions of Americans now and has been since 1993 confirmed in 2006 by a unanimouse Supreme Court Ruling.

Do you believe Cannabis was created by G-d for a good purpose?
Cannabis is in the bible over 5 times and in every major religion as a sacrament. Islam, Hindu, Zorastrian, and yes Christian.

If so you are acting within your rights under the law to possess Kanesh “cannabis” under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 and 2006 unanimous Supreme Court Ruling, GONZALES, ATTORNEY GENERAL, ET AL. v. O CENTRO ESPIRITA BENEFICENTE UNIAO DO VEGETAL ET AL.
No. 04–1084. Argued November 1, 2005—Decided February 21, 2006

The Court was presented with the question: Whether the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993, 42 U.S.C. 2000bb et seq., requires the government to permit the importation, distribution, possession, and use of a Schedule I hallucinogenic controlled substance, where Congress has found that the substance has a high potential for abuse, it is unsafe for use even under medical supervision, and its importation and distribution would violate an international treaty.

In 2006 in a unanimous decision (8-0), the Supreme Court ruled that religious freedom is more important than the drug laws. Gonzales v. O Centro Espirita Beneficente Uniao do Vegetal, 546 U.S. 418 (2006), the United States Supreme Court recognized the drug laws must provide exceptions for religious use under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), 42 U.S.C. § 2000bb et seq.

In United States v. Bauer, 84 F.3d 1549, 1559 (9th Cir. 1996), the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held that under the RFRA the marijuana laws must give way to religious freedom. This was confirmed again in 2002 in the case of Guam v. Guerrero, 290 F.3d 1210 (9th Cir. 2002).

A lot has happened since United States v. Bauer was decided in 1996. In 2000, Congress expanded the protection of the RFRA by enacting the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, 42 U.S.C. § 2000cc et seq., expanding the meaning of "religious exercise."
42 U.S.C. 2000cc-5(7)(A) states, "The term 'religious exercise' includes any exercise of religion, whether or not compelled by, or central to, a system of religious belief." The U.S. Supreme Court has interpreted this amendment to the RFRA in Cutter v. Wilkinson, 544 U.S. 709, 725 (2005), to mean the standard in United States v. Seeger, 380 U.S. 163, 185 (1965) ("courts in this sense are not free to reject beliefs because they consider them 'incomprehensible.' Their task is to decide whether the beliefs professed by a registrant are sincerely held and whether they are, in his own scheme of things, religious.")

Several United States District Court rulings have recognized a fundamental right to use marijuana under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act: United States v. Valrey, No. CR96-549Z (W.D. Wash. February 22, 2000), finding a fundamental right of a criminal defendant to use marijuana while on supervised release; United States v. Forchion, No. 04-949-ALL (E.D. Pa. July 22, 2005), finding the defendant's rights under the RFRA had been violated because the magistrate did not consider the impact of six of the conditions of release on the defendant's right to use marijuana; Multi Denominational Ministry of Cannabis and Rastafari v. Gonzales, No. C-06-4264 (N.D. Cal. February 2, 2007), recognizing the plaintiffs could make out a prima facie case under the RFRA for the religious use of marijuana.

I have been a long time activist and published several newspaper articles dating back to 1992 of cannabis revered as a sacrament in the scriptures and this has been my faith for over 14 years. Set aside for holy use for priests to concentrate on the 3rd eye and raising of consciousness or a sacrament to those suffering from spiritual affliction that may manifest in body or mental dis-ease. It is not for recreational use but something revered for holy contemplation by priests and a spiritual sacrament for the sick of body or mind.

It is “Self-Evident” that cannabis was created by G-d and called good. “Behold I give you every seed bearing plant upon the face of the earth.” I unequivocally believe that Cannabis is the “Tree of Life” referenced in the books of Genesis and Revelation and is a Holy Sacrament described in the Torah. It is a indisputable fact that Cannabis is a specifically mentioned in all scriptures of the world including the dead sea scrolls and nag hamadi library. Cannabis is “seed bearing plant” that g-d called good and gave to man for sustenance and a tool. .

According to the current law if you have such a faith based reason you have the right to posses’ cannabis for your private personal religious use in the free exercise of faith. The State does not have a “compelling interest” in the scope the UDL and cannot show actual harm for for use of cannabis per the 2006 Supreme Court Decision “Gonzales vs O Centro Espirita Beneficiente Uniao do Vegetal. If you are not distributing for recreational users and only using it for religeous purposes then it is legal for you to posses cannabis. The state is violating your rights and can be sued in court for monetary damages should they choose to ignore FEDERAL LAW. The LA police are now being sued for 30 million dollars for this now by www.temple420.org

I have a case comming up and hope to build a coalition and legal defense fund to defend this and any new cases for those who join the cause. I think this could be big. Their are so many groups that would pitch in for the fight and celebrities. This could be on the news and go on all the news shows. But more importantly could lead to a rational marijuana policy, the end of suffering for many sick who would benefit from G-ds miracle plant and use the very weapon the religious right is using to do evil to do good.

The invocation of Religion. This is the ultimate Tai Chi legal move.

I'll post a link later for my specific case in Texas and how you can help. I'll need help with lawyers, media ~ getting the word out, publication, promotion, and informing law enforcement of the LAW of the land.

Some may need to willingly get arrested with misdemeanor amounts to get court cases going to drive the point home once we get the legal team set and defence fund setup.

Here are a few links with more info.

I set up a yahoo group for those who want to be a part of this.
It is indisputable that Cannabis is a part of the early christian Church, the Essenes, Zorastrianism, Hinduism, Sifuism, Shoto, Santera, Wicca, and many others. This essentially means cannabis is legal for millions of Americans Now. We must just get an injunction and or inform the law enforecment / legal community through court action.

to keep you from having to read too much...

west fort worth...
where the west "literally" begins.

we went in with a majority, and this was guessed at from the shear numbers of delegates who could possibly attend yesterday. we didn't know. nobody did. not the party regulars, not us. last convention, 195 showed. this time up to 1120 could have. about 530 did.

we ended 16 hours of convention with about half of the state slate.
my wife and i walked in the door of our house at 11:30pm.

my wife was made a fixture on the permanent nominations committee, and this was the most crucial part of us becoming part of the process and not being left out. committee members are important as all get out.

by the end of the night we had lost the majority, then regained it at the last minute! we lost a no confidence vote on mcinsane, but kept the steam going til the end. we left the chair in place, and, like two ships passing in the night, let republican officials and party regulars that we are here and not going away any time soon. the election does not end our present task. yesterday was a great day in history. it was incredible what took place as there is hardly a serious coordination between people of similar mind, only vague notions of the consequences to come for no action taken.

i have a most difficult time in pitying no one. as don juan would endeavor to suggest, i cannot be hindered by a republican party, reluctant to fully separate from a strategy including religious props. for one to believe that morality is arrived at by traveling some holy route is to miss the point entirely.

we did good, and look forward to working with the texas GOP in the future.
if nothing else, i'd like to impart one thing to the people of the texas GOP.

to the chairs and all people of senate district 12, you should feel the most proud of the slate that has been delivered to the june state convention. it is filled with people employing craft, intelligence, patience, and, above all, a true love of life. their names are unknown to you, but they will no less fight for the principles found within your republican platform. they have read it. the difference between us will shrink as it becomes more aware to you, the problems we face as a nation of blind sheeple.

let us not forget that we indeed walk backwards through time, always able to see what lies behind us, never what lies ahead. we need cooperation between groups who understand the value of life and what is at stake.

a promise has been made, that we continue what we mean to.
as has already been said before me, (you) we already are what (you) we will become. it is an honor to be going to state. it is an honor to speak out.

Why didn;t you guys vote the

Why didn;t you guys vote the chair and all the officers out while you had the majority?

good question!

remember.....something that i didn't really think of...

it's all well and find to have the idea of TAKING OVER.
but there needs to be a TRANSITION in reality.

we are in the reddest county in the reddest state.

it would not have been wise to take them over without considering the human consequences of doing so. don't you see?

there is a history there. people remember bad things. we want to be remembered as nothing bad. it was a compromise to some extent and very political, but in all actuality it gave us great results and a future we can build upon. THAT IS MOST IMPORTANT. THIS DOES NOT END THIS NOVEMBER!

Well i undertand but if you

Well i undertand but if you would of voted everyone one out you could have controlled everything and you could of also ammended the bylaws to keep your chair until they died and then tabled any debate or resolutions indefintely to re ammend the bylaws.

It's ok for it seems you all did well

Dr. Steve Parent

it seems that it

could have been that easy, but it was not. i promise you.
i was the first to object to anything other than total control.

I was there too and left early. I sat next to three elderly ladies all die hard establishment republicans who were well aware of ron paul supporters entering conventions and thought it as being silly and absurd. They did not see the point as McCain was the obvious candidate.

One lady( my precinct chair) was very nice and had volunteered for the party at voting booths, the Bush library, etc for decades and considered us hardheaded and that these resolutions were pointless since none of them would be passed at the state level. I could feel that a lot of ron paul supporters were there because she said the last convention there were half the amount of people. You could definitely feel an underlying tension. I kept my mouth fairly shut until I was elected as an alternate since the lady next to me seem rather influential and establised.

The convention seemed tedious to me but it was also exciting to see so many ron paul people excited about politics and our country. You were not alone that day. I think others like me wanted to just yell out Ron Paul's name but than how would we become delegates. A "committee" decided who was in or out. We definitely need a hand signal or something.

I have no idea how small or large our revolution is, but there is a revolution. Nor does anybody know how much we are able to change the direction of this country this year or ten years from now. Maybe our numbers are smaller than I imagine but look how many people one man was able to awaken. As long as the revolution continues I am optimistic for our country. Ron Paul rEVOLution 2008!!

It seems that Mass is different, that we wont be able to do anything but vote on our people to go to the state. At the state is where we introduce the changes to the republican party. I am going over the rules right now. But I am preparing my delegates just in case. Does anyone know any different for Mass? I will post again after I read the rules

Info for state convention

Is anyone compiling a list of the RP people who will be attending the State convention? This was not done for the county conventions, even though I was told it would be. We need to know who we are!! Maybe we can come up with a subtle ID system? Or should we all just wear our RP badges? Let's get organized, cause you know the neocons are! I emailed state headquarters about this, too. Does anyone know of a training video or anything about going to state? Can we get on committees at this point? Should we attend committee meetings anyway? Which ones? To what end? If anyone has info, please share.

San Antonio MeetUp

I agree, we need to be even more organized this time around. I learned some hard lessons at my convention this past weekend. We at the San Antonio MeetUp had an idea to take the S. Texas delgates under our wing and invite them to meet and greet so that we can get to know each other better and not have to wonder who's who at the convention. We are inviting anyone who's interested to come by during Fiesta week (late April) and have some fun with us while planning for state at the same time. I also thought a centralized location like Austin would be a good place to meet every weekend between now and the state convention. More training would be great! Perhaps a centralized delegate MeetUp??? I'm sure someone is running with this but we only have a few weeks and I would like to secure my seat to the National Convention! Please feel free to contact us at the San Antonio meetup group if you want to share ideas...

Pony Up With Your Reports!

Have all the senate districts reported in? I imagine there are more...let us hear from you!

And thanks for the alert that Mass. is coming up next! Mass. folks, take a look at the TX playbooks and do likewise -- and then some!

We had 10 of 32 delegates going to State

We had a fairly calm convention, we passed a couple of resolutions and had some rejected. We managed to get some positions. I think it is still too early to go into our plans and strategies, state is still coming up.

I think we need to both remember and make sure we present ourselves not as people trying to stick it to the GOP but people trying to save the GOP and the US.

I think the county GOP here treated us fairly and tried to include us in things like the nomination and resolutions commitees. They knew we were going to show up, talked to some of us and basically said that they disagreed with some of our positions but welcomed our committment, something that is lacking in the party here.

Ron Paul supporters win partial victory at GOP conventions

http://www.star-telegram....

By MIKE LEE
mikelee@star-telegram.com
MIKE LEE, 817-390-7539

FORT WORTH -- Ron Paul supporters fought with local Republican leaders Saturday over control of local conventions and may have won the right to push their agenda at the state GOP convention.

Supporters of Paul, a congressman from Surfside who got 4.5 percent of the votes in the presidential primary, tried to overwhelm the senate district-level conventions by sheer numbers. The party regulars, aware that Paul’s supporters won a similar campaign in Missouri, brought in extra troops of their own.

The two largest conventions in Tarrant County were still nominating their delegates at 9 p.m., so it may be days before the full effect is known.

“This is not unique to Dallas-Fort Worth; it’s happening all over the state,” said Stephanie Klick, Tarrant County Republican chairwoman.

Paul’s supporters oppose GOP presidential nominee John McCain and want to push the party toward Paul’s brand of conservatism, including reigning in federal spending, ending the Iraq war and abolishing the federal reserve and other government agencies. Any delegates to the state convention will be required to support McCain, but they could still vote for changes in the state party platform.

Peace broke out early at the Senate District 12 convention.

Convention chairman Tom Quinones worked out a deal to give the Paul camp delegates based on their numbers. Chad Bishop, a Paul delegate, gave a speech seconding Quinones’ nomination, saying the district’s “conservative heritage is not lost on us.”

Quinones said later: “I think the Ron Paul delegates will be well represented on our state delegation list.”

In Senate District 10, Paul supporter Jeremy Blosser challenged longtime Republican organizer Stuart Lane for chairmanship of the convention.

Blosser bristled at Lane’s characterization of Paul’s supporters as “outsiders bent on taking over the party.”

“We are Republicans. I don’t know how you take over something you’re already part of,” he said.

Lane won the election by a 2-to-1 margin, but it took hours to count the votes, and the convention still bogged down with debate over platform changes.

“Did we accomplish something today? We’re here, and we stood up for ourselves,” Blosser said.

Sorry to hear this. HAng in there though

A Strange Day in Dr. Paul’s Backyard (SD-11)

Yesterday I participated as a delegate in the Galveston County, Texas Republican Convention. Galveston County sits squarely in Dr. Paul’s congressional district. The county voted 70% for Dr. Paul to retain his seat in congress during the Texas primary. He received 8.5% in his quest for the Presidential nomination. Needless to say, I did not know what to expect at the convention.

Aside from the normal amount of confusion that accompanies hosting an event for a couple of hundred people, there was a separate feeling of anxiety directly attributable to the presence of Dr. Paul’s supporters. His supporters had obviously been active in the activities of the resolution committee during the run-up to the convention. The establishment seemed very uneasy about what to expect from us.

As the festivities unfolded the delegates were handed a multi-page (16) compilation of proposed resolutions (245), divided into categories (14), to be voted on that day. The morning was filled with speeches espousing the usual political rhetoric. There were reports from committees. There were interviews of potential delegates to the state convention (delegates and alternates were selected by the committee). Then there was lunch.

An hour after the lunch break ended, the convention was finally ready to address the resolutions. Initially the plan was to vote on whole categories at a time after first hearing any discussion on the individual resolutions contained in the category.

The first category was Government and Citizenship. It contained 11 resolutions of which 4 were flagged for discussion. The very first one was given the innocuous name Limitation of Civil Government. The resolution was very different from its title. The opening paragraph states:
"The Republican Party of Galveston County believes God is Sovereign over the entire world and has divinely instituted civil government among men for His own glory and for the public good. For the administration of this institution He has ordained civil rulers to exercise their authority under Him in obedience to His laws in order to promote justice, restrain wickedness, punish evildoers, and protect the life, liberty and private property of the citizens and provide for domestic and national defense."

I attempted to make the point that this language seems to repudiate the establishment cause and put the party on the slippery slope to support for theocratic government. I mentioned that republican (small r) government draws its authority from the consent of the governed instead of being ordained by God. There was support for my point and there were the usual misguided arguments against including America as the Promised Land and the Founding Fathers wanted America to be a Christian country. This resolution was allowed to stand as written by voice vote and it seemed to set the tone for the afternoon. Three other resolutions in category one were discussed and finally the category was passed as written.

Category 2 was Resolutions Concerning Election issues. This section included the resolution expressing no confidence in John McCain. Much time was spent discussing this resolution. In the end it was replaced with vague wording that the party expects the candidate to hold to the party platform. No big deal. At least many had to agree with all the “Whereas’” concerning his voting record on issues such as amnesty, POW MIA’s, ANWR, etc.

By now the day was starting to wear on. People were leaving. A delegate proposed ending debate and accepting the rest of the package as written. The vote ended in a tie. We kept going. Resolutions Concerning Criminal Justice were next. Two resolutions were discussed and once again the proposal was made to accept the rest of the resolutions as written. People were ready to go. It was pointed out to the delegates that there were conflicts within and between the resolutions. The vote (by a single digit margin) was to accept.

I apologize to you other Dr. Paul supporters. I couldn’t stay any longer. I had witnessed how the very people who purported to be protecting American values could trample the Constitution of this great nation. There was a complete disregard for the Bill of Rights. In the end, after overwhelming support for God ordained government and leadership, the convention passed a document that also contained resolution 156 that starts with the statement: The church is a God ordained institution with a sphere of authority separate from that of civil government…

It had many other inconsistencies. In one resolution it states punishments should be assessed in proportion to the crime. Three lines later it supports “boot” camps of hard labor for first time drug offenders. Another calls for the abolishment of the Department of Energy while still another calls for the government to establish a national energy strategy. The list goes on.

Now that you know the bad news, the good side of this process is other resolutions such as opposition to the Patriot Act, Real ID, UN membership, Trans-Texas Corridor, NAFTA, WTO, etc. were adopted as written too.

I now have to decide if I will attend the state convention as an alternate and attempt to continue the fight. It is a battle against an entrenched mentality that is willing to discard what America really stands for in order to “protect” a specific set of personal values and to project those values upon others. I not so sure Dr. Paul’s original feeling that the country might still be a generation away from understanding the message might be correct.

Yeah, I'm in SD15 and

was horribly disturbed by what I witnessed yesterday. The people running the party have no ethics, and were willing to throw their followers on the religious right any bone to stay in power. It honestly reminded me of what a nazi party rally must have been like.

First, there was a long prayer, although I am not a Christian, I believe that people have the right to believe what they wish; but the whole separation of church and state was thrown out the door, and the invoking of Jesus started to make my skin crawl.

The prayer was followed by a short film that honored our military. Patriotic music was played while images of the different war machines were put up for the delegates' consumption. It was supposed to be patriotic and inspiring, but it really gave me an unsettled feeling, especially with a large amount of the crowd clapping and cheering during the presentation.

Next, we moved on to vote for the state delegates. This was done pretty hastily, after an explanation that since turnout was low for Rick Perry, our precincts wouldn't have as many delegates as they usually do, despite the "unexpectedly high turnout" at the precinct convention. They grouped some precincts together to arrive at elected delegates for the state convention. From our precinct group, we elected a Ron Paul supporter as a delegate, and an alternate who is not. I learned from my SD leader that we did okay, we got a lot of Ron Paul supporters elected as delegates to the state convention, although not the majority.

Then the speeches started while the rules and credentials committee met. First, a guy who is running against Shelia Jackson Lee got up and spoke. He actually said that he was running because he was opposed to the havoc that George Bush brought to the country. This brought about a few cheers. Honestly, though, I think this guy was a plant to try to guage how many Ron Paul supporters there were at the convention.

After that, things started to get uglier, faster. One of the state representatives for the district got up and gave a speech about how we need to get behind McCain. His best explanation of why, was that McCain can win. He gave no mention as how he thought McCain was best for the country, nor did he mention one think from McCain's platform, nor anything about the economy, the war, or anything of relevence. He was, at best, a mean-spirited cheerleader. Later, he passed down the isle by me, looked at me, and just scowled and stared. This hatred was apparent from many of the politicians, and even those running for elected officials. Later when I was out in the hallway, I smiled at one of candidates running for Houston district attorney, she scowled back at me, and her eyes narrowed. Needless to say, she won't get my vote.

Things turned weird at the resolutions vote. A woman got up and introduced a resolution to make drunk driver first time offenders carry a different colored drivers license to make them identifiable to the police. Luckily, it didn't pass. A woman introduced a resolution that was basically the Ron Paul platform, it was also defeated in the voice vote. We were able to get some of the Ron Paul resolutions passed that came up from the precincts.

After the resolutions vote, most of the delegates left. More speeches by the State Rep. McCain cheerleader, this one reminding us that "there was only one candidate still in the race." Then a young woman who is a media pro from the Young Republicans of Harris County urged those under 40 to join up. In her speech, she was playing both sides of the crowd, talking to the establishment about how she and Shepherd Smith have debates on Fox News, while devoting part of it to small government "ideals" (funny how it's never reality to them). I spent most of this time doing a crossword puzzle. After her speech, she walked down the aisle, had a pissed off look in her eyes and avoided eye contact.

The credentials committee returned soon after, a list of names was read off for at large delegates, a vote was taken, passed, and the convention was adjourned.

So, yeah, I know what you experienced. It was ugly. However, I strongly urge you to continue on to the state convention. From the report so far, it sounds like we did rather well in the other SD and county conventions. We cannot afford to loose momentum at this critical phase. I am considering volunteering as a Sargent at Arms at the State Convention to make sure things don't get out of hand against our delegates. It is also my opinion that we need to contact some of Republican candidates running for office who are not openly hostile to us. We need to remember that their perception of us has been skewed. If we meet with them in person, we may be able to prove that we are not crazies, and let them hear our concerns.

We have met the enemy. They are not pretty, and they use redundant tactics to manipulate their followers. We are in for a long-term fight, there is no doubt about it. It will be vicious and brutal, subject to manipulation and shameful tactics; but if we can stick to it, we can win. Onwards to state.

After that, things started

After that, things started to get uglier, faster. One of the state representatives for the district got up and gave a speech about how we need to get behind McCain. His best explanation of why, was that McCain

We got a similar speech in SD 13 down the hall from you, from Paul Bettencourt. Some people cheered, but I looked around and quite a few people didn't seem to like what he was saying.

I smiled at one of candidates running for Houston district attorney, she scowled back at me, and her eyes narrowed. Needless to say, she won't get my vote.

Which DA candidate was it?

I won't give her name,

but it was the one who is not Pat Lykos.

Got it.

Got it.

How did things go

in 13?

You appear to have accepted

You appear to have accepted the enemy's idea of "separation of church and state". Read the First Amendment again. The Constitution does not prohibit prayers at government-run events or places such as schools. Even if it did, the Republican party is a private club, not a government agency.

I'm not sure they pray to the same God I do, since many of them seem to worship the Republican party or the state itself, so I did not participate in the prayer either, but I'm not going to tell them the Constitution doesn't allow them to pray...

Honestly, to me

it seemed more like pandering than prayer. It really wasn't even that troublesome to me; but it did set a certain note for the convention.

By All Means -- Attend!!!

"I now have to decide if I will attend the state convention as an alternate and attempt to continue the fight. It is a battle against an entrenched mentality that is willing to discard what America really stands for in order to “protect” a specific set of personal values and to project those values upon others."

Attend! Attend!! Attend and FIGHT!!!! Yes, it is a battle! You get to be an alternate? Wonderful!! GO!!! If you give up, it tells the rest of the party (aye, the rest of the country) that you'll just go along with the continued trampling of the rights of the people! Freedom needs YOU!

::waving pompoms and jumping up and down:: GO! FIGHT!! WIN!!!!!!

nice job

Reporting from SD1 in

Reporting from SD1 in Texas

Two of us were elected as new precinct chairmen in the primary and our new county chairman stated that he voted in the primary for Ron Paul although he dosen’t agree with Dr. Paul on every issue.
We had representatives on the Nomination Committee and my self and another were on the Resolutions Committee (2 out of 8).
Below are resolution favorable to Ron Pauls positions that were adopted in our platform and will be going to State. Some of the wording is not EXACTLY as we would like it, but overall exceptable.
Resolutions on the War in Iraq and expressing no confidence in John McCain were removed from the platform at the convention.
I’m a delegate and my wife and daughter are alternates.
We have 8 delegates and 9 alternates going to State out of the 54 allotted to our SD.
See y’all at the State Convention in Houston!

Limited Federal Government - We support the re-establishment of states’ rights guaranteed by the tenth Amendment of the Constitution, which reserves for the states powers not specifically delegated to the federal government, and reject the notion that Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of the Constitution grants the United States Government authority to create certain agencies and regulations. We further support the abolition of federal agencies involved in activities not constitutionally delegated to the federal government, including, but not limited to the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) and the position of Surgeon General, and all present authority be either eliminated, or transferred to the states and local government.
We call for the dissolution of the Department of Education.
We call for the abolition of the National Endowment for the Arts, and the de-funding of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Conduct of Public Officials – We believe the President of the United States and all members of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of the federal and state governments shall be held to the same standards of conduct as law-abiding citizens. We call for the investigation and, if appropriate, prosecution of any and all members of any administration that have committed crimes, up to and including possible treason against the United States of America, without respect to the office served.

National Animal Identification System (NAIS) – NAIS is an insidious intrusion of personal freedom and property ownership. This “voluntary” system, proposed and implemented by the USDA, and the Department of Agriculture, urges RFID chip implantation of all animals under individuals control, and reporting of all inter-species interactions from birth to death of the animal, and pay fees accordingly. We urge the immediate abolishment of this program.

Right to Keep and Bear Arms – The Party calls upon the Texas Legislature and the United States Congress to repeal any and all laws that infringe upon the right of individual citizens to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution; and to reject the establishment of any mechanism to process, license, record, register or monitor the ownership of guns. We urge the Legislature to clearly declare that it has the exclusive authority to determine where firearms may or may not be legally carried in the State of Texas, and that no other state governmental entity and no local governmental entity may regulate or prohibit the possession of firearms. We believe that crime committed by armed criminals should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. However, frivolous lawsuits against legitimate American firearm manufacturers for these same crimes are harassing, costly and should be dismissed promptly. We urge law enforcement and the legislature to enforce and improve current laws against criminals rather than create more laws against law-abiding citizens. We believe it is the responsibility of all gun owners to safely store and operate their firearms.

Social Security Numbers (SSN) - We oppose the current numbering of every citizen of America, by the Social Security Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service. Application for SSNs should not be required before the age of consent. We also call for removing the use of the Social Security number for any other purpose other than Social Security and Internal Revenue Service accounting, and make requesting and use of such a number for any other purpose illegal.

National Identification Methods - We emphatically oppose federalizing state driver’s licenses to be used as a national identification card for U.S. citizens, despite the advocating of such for domestic security. We oppose this expansion of governmental power over our fellow Americans.
We emphatically oppose the Real ID Act. We call on all branches of the government of the State of Texas and these United States to block the implementation of this Act, and to repeal the same.

Illegal Immigration – No amnesty! No how. No way.
With growing impatience, the American people in overwhelming numbers have asked our government to secure our borders. They now demand it and we as a party agree with the American people. Illegal aliens have, by definition, committed a criminal act. We oppose illegal immigration, amnesty in any form, or legal status for illegal immigrants. The American people remember the broken promises of 1986 and will not be misled again.
We support:
1. Immediate deportation of any and all discovered illegal immigrants;
2. an immediate end to the current “catch and release” policy of Homeland Security;
3. stiffer fines, criminal penalties, and an aggressive enforcement policy for those who knowingly employ illegal workers; and
4. expeditious hearings on deporting non-violent illegal immigrants held in prisons or jails;
5. suspending automatic U.S. citizenship to children born to illegal immigrant parents;
6. elimination of federal funding to cities that have “sanctuary” laws prohibiting local police from identifying and reporting illegal immigrants to federal authorities;
7. empowering state and local law enforcement agencies with the authority, responsibility and resources needed to detain illegal immigrants within the course of their regular duties;
8. the rejection of non-verifiable foreign-issued cards, such as matricula consular as valid identification for official documentation purposes;
9. investigation and strict prosecution of agencies, businesses or persons involved in the production, distribution or acceptance of phony identification documents;
10. elimination of day labor work centers;
11. elimination of all laws requiring hospitals to give non-emergency medical care to illegal immigrants;
12. elimination of social security benefits or government funding to illegal immigrants for education, housing and business loans.
13. legislation to prevent any foreign country and/or its citizens from using the judicial system of the United States to gain entrance to the U.S.;
14. strong document verification prior to the issuance of a Texas drivers license to anyone;
15. the withholding of federal highway funds from any state that issues drivers licenses to illegal aliens;
16. aggressive prosecution of persons involved in smuggling humans across our borders.

Welfare Reform - We call for the abolition of the welfare system.

United Nations - We believe it is in the best interest of the citizens of the United States that we immediately rescind our membership in, as well as all financial and military contributions to, the United Nations. We support House Resolution 1146, “The American Sovereignty Preservation Act” which would remove the United States entirely from the control of the U.N. We demand that Congress ratify no ambiguous treaties that compromise the United States Constitution, immediately recall our military forces from all U.N. initiated engagements and restore them to their traditional mission of defending the liberty and freedom of the people of the United States of America. We condemn any attempt by the federal government or the U.N. to directly or indirectly tax United States citizens for U.N. support. We urge Congress to resist and remove U.N. control of any United States land or natural resources. We adamantly oppose the use of Presidential Executive Orders to implement U.N. Treaties thereby circumventing our elected Congress. We urge Our Senators to unalterably oppose any agreement or Treaty that seeks to establish an International Criminal Court, make the United States a participatory party to such a court, recognize the jurisdiction of such a court within the United States or upon any native-born or naturalized citizen of the United States. We oppose payment of any debt allegedly owed to the U.N., and we demand credit for expenditures for peacekeeping forces provided on behalf of the U.N. We oppose a U.N. resolution that would force the United States to adopt gun control measures by Treaty. We deplore the placement, and call for the removal, of the U.N. flag and emblem on public property or in other US government facilities. We encourage Rep. Louie Gohmert’s to reintroduce his United Nations Voting Accountability Act, to withhold financial aid to those countries that vote contrary to the United State’s vote in the UN more than 50% of the time. It galls us to reward those who hate us.

“Foreign Entanglements” - We believe that:
1) these United States should not allow the Security and Prosperity Partnership to implement further regulations that would create the proposed North American Union with Mexico and Canada;
2) these United States should not engage in the construction of a NAU Superhighway System, and the State of Texas should not engage in the construction of the Trans-Texas Corridor;
3) We urge members of Congress to repeal the membership of the United States in the WTO; and
4) We call for the immediate withdrawal of the U.S. from agreements and World Governmental Organizations, such as GATT, ICC, NAFTA and CAFTA, that compromise our sovereignty, independence, self-sufficiency, national security and transfer power from our government to unelected foreign entities.

Balanced Budget - We support a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced federal budget that contains a spending limitation clause and full disclosure of all “on” and “off” budget spending. We do not accept any raising of taxes or fees, approving of any “off budget” expenditures, transferring tax liability to states, county and local government by regulation, federal mandates, etc., or approving any crisis spending bill without a corresponding cut in the federal budget, and the only debt reduction plan acceptable is a massive reduction in spending.
Budget surpluses belong to those taxpayers who were taxed too much, and we call for surplus funds to be returned to the taxpayers.

Internet Taxation – The Party opposes any taxation of the internet or internet services, until Federal income tax is abolished.

The Federal Reserve and the Gold Standard - We believe that it is in the best interest of the American Citizenry to Dissolve the Federal Reserve and to return to a Gold standard for our monetary system.

Federal Tax Reform – Federal tax reform is required and any reform should support free enterprise, economic growth, be simple and fair and support job retention in the United States. The Internal Revenue Service is unacceptable to U. S. taxpayers! We urge that the IRS be abolished and the Sixteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution be repealed. We further urge that the personal income tax, inheritance (death) tax, gift tax, capital gains, corporate income tax, and payroll tax be eliminated. We recommend the implementation of a national retail sales tax, with the provision that a two-thirds majority of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate is required to raise the rate. Such reforms will encourage investment and economic growth. Such a sales tax plan must ensure that no one in America pays taxes of any kind on the necessities of life, ensuring opportunity and quality of life for low- and fixed-income Americans. We believe every tax at every level should be a separate and clearly visible billing to the taxpayer, regardless of type of tax, and of calculation method, so we support tax visibility in all forms.

Education - Control of all facets of public education should be the responsibility of parents and locally elected boards of education.
We call for the dissolution of the Department of Education. We believe that federal intervention into the public education system should be eliminated. Specifically, we oppose the idea of government involvement in child rearing by placing children in federally-funded Early Education Programs and call for the repeal of the Head Start Programs.
We are opposed to the implementation of an Outcome-Based Education-type reform to our public education system, and object to any tax funds used for this program.
In addition, we note that the "No Child Left Behind" Education Bill adopts and funds the Center for Civics Education (CCE) curriculum, "We the People Program," with standards which circumvent local control, distort the true meaning of our founding documents, and undermine the meaning of national sovereignty. Therefore, we urge the Congress to repeal financial support for the CCE and its development, expansion and distribution of its "We the People Program".
We believe that the right of children in public schools to engage in voluntary prayer should be encouraged. We call for school administrators and officials to specifically teach Texas school students of their First Amendment rights to pray and engage in religious speech, either in groups or individually, on school property without government interference. We also believe that prayer should not be composed by the United States or any state.
We believe that the Texas Legislature should pass legislation allowing the posting of the Ten Commandments in all schools and public buildings in Texas.
We believe the educational system should return to the basic standards which include a curriculum of reading (with an emphasis on phonics), spelling, writing, penmanship, literature, mathematics, geography, economics, and U.S. and world history. In addition we believe that students should be educated in the Texas and U.S. Constitutions, the Declaration of Independence, science, English, citizenship and federal, state, and local government.

"You are a den of vipers. I intend to rout you out and by the Eternal God I will rout you out. If the people only understood the rank injustice of our money and banking system, there would be a revolution before morning." --Andrew Jackson,
