Switch to Mike Gravel - libertarian candidate?

So I see Mike Gravel is now hoping to be the libertarian presidential candidate. Admittedly I didn't know much about him - I had a candidate in Ron Paul, and really didn't look at all the "lesser tier" guys. But looking at his view (http://www.ontheissues.or...) I can't say I'd have much of a problem with him being the President.

He's certainly better than the remaining three. I mean, on one hand we have 100 years, bomb bomb Iran McCain - who actually must be the most decent person of the three remaining, because n the other hand, we have two Democrats who can't stop lying to our faces ("I never supported NAFTA and was important to the peace proccess, under gunfire" Hillary, or "I barely know Renzo, well actually I know pretty well but he only donated x dollars to my complain, well actually I mean y dollars, I wasn't in church the day he made those comments, well then again I did, but I would've left if he didn't retire - honest" Obama) who tolerate racist people in their inner circle. I was leaning Obama when the actual election came up, but his lying, much more so than Wrights actual comments, have me thinking probably not.

So I was back to probably writing in Paul's name and just giving a middle finger to everyone else. But I'm thinking maybe we try moving in Gravel's camp. Maybe get him to have RP as his Vice President candidate. Not that I really believe they'd win, but maybe we could start putting our view back out into the public's eye. Let people know that we still are here, and are still looking for real change. What do people think? Is it time to rename the site "Daily Mike"?

Yes, indeed. He's no Ron Paul!

I write in Ron Paul or I don't vote! (Hey, if what can possibly happen at the convention with respect to the delegates happens, then maybe, just maybe, I won't have to "write in" Ron Paul!)

hes ok...but hes no Ron

hes ok...but hes no Ron Paul...He supports government healthcare. Socialism?...no thanks.

Would everyone...

stop gettin all excited about Senator Gravel payin his dues and joining the libertarian fan club. Hes a liberal dem with some very poignant and decorous views. All in all however, his true intentions are very unlibertarian. He switched parties just like McCains lap doggy Mr. Joseph Lieberman did. And is now supposedly claiming to be full fledged independant. Actions speak louder than other actions, but history cannot be changed...

funny

I wonder who took those quotes on Gravel ? I've been watching him in the DEM's race all year and a lot of those issues are pure lies ? man it's bad on both sides isn't it ? His stance is actually alot closer to Ron Pauls than you think if you are only basing your decision on whoever wrote that page you are being misled.

Become and delegate or alternate delegate for Dr. Paul and encourage others to do this as well. Check out the posts of "SGP" Dr. Steve Parent who deals with this, Can also listen to him on rprradio dot com, some interviews with him. So stay as a GOP member to become a delegate. If this is not possible
and should Dr. Paul not get the nomination at RNC, there are candidates closer to Ron Paul than Mike Gravel, namely Dr. Mary Ruwart within the nomination bid of the LP. Bob Barr may also enter the race, and if so, vote for him. He introduced Dr. Paul to CPAC. check out www.thirdpartywatch dot com The CP, of which Dr. Paul is also a member, will also be chosing a leader.
In short: engage yourself with Dr. Paul still, while there is still a chance for his personal nomination.

Comments I had with a friend.

(Conza) you won't need too

I'll tell ya what I'll do. I didn't even know that Gravel was still running. IF they give Gravel equal time with BillBama, then maybe I'll think about it. In the meantime, I'll stick with my heart.

Wait, you'd let "them" (the mainstream media) determine whom you'd vote for? That wouldn't have led you to Paul in the first place... In any case, you shouldn't support a socialist like Gravel anyway.

remaining three? as if

1. delegate miracles all around...

2. McCain's hard numbers aren't even close

3. it looks like Gore might be joining the race (hope not)

Everything will change. It ain't over till its over.

This is the year that Americans restored their consitution while the rest of the world cheered you on!!!

How libertarian can Mike Gravel be?

When he kept talking and talking about a world government? It seems to me libertarianism would work best with a smaller, decentralized government.

Why

Why did the libertarians allow this to happen? Why don't all the third parties get behind Paul. They are absolute fools not to have gone full force behind Paul and come into the Republican conventions and helped take the GOP back and get this thing done. They are fools not to have gotten behind him hard. Also Fair Tax people. Complete idiots not to have totally tabled Fair Tax and get Ron Paul in.

"He's certainly better than the remaining three."

This election is all about being true to your convictions- not settling for the lesser of evils. This may be better posted on "The Daily Gravel". No matter how good your intentions are- Ron Paul supporters are just that-supporters of Ron Paul. Till the end. We will write him in if need be.

Gravel's Politic Is Anti-Republic,

and leads to the destruction, not construction of the Constitution. He is a extremely progressive liberal, who would force social immorality, and a socialist governance. He believes in open borders, with amnesty for illegal aliens who have invaded our country, stolen our jobs, and placed a huge burden, which he would increase, on the American people. He believes in homosexual marriage, which as proven in other countries, lead to the end of the family structure. Though many of Ron Paul supporters may not be Christians, it was the Christians who founded this nation, and forced the balance of law and liberty, with governance by the people for the people. The Puritans, who's religious doctrines have been grossly exaggerated, demanded and are responsible for the 'checks and balances' written in the Constitution. In my opinion if you desire to back the socialist Gravel, then you should leave this site, and not disrespect Ron Paul's Constitutional Republic movement.

Whatever your opinion on

Whatever your opinion on immigration, noone "steals" jobs. Anyone has the right to hold any job for which the employer is willing to hire him. Also, the "burden" largely consists of welfare, etc., and so most, if not all, of it would be lifted were we to repeal such unconstitutional and unjust items. I'm not criticizing or arguing against the anti-illegal-immigration position in general, though.

"Homosexual marriage" is not "just" a religious issue. It's a contradiction in terms, a logical impossibility. Official government sanction of such relationships is a moral and religious issue, though. The best answer is that government has no business knowing or having any record of who is married to whom, even before this present issue was raised.
Yes, Gravel is an absolute socialist whom no rational person could ever call a libertarian.

only if RP endoses him after

only if RP endoses him after the primary, otherwise I will just fill in his name.

No.

How's that for clarity?

What we do is

We stick hard and fast to Dr. Paul until he takes us by the shoulders and tells us to back someone else and then we back the person he tells us to back. I understand your thoughts about Gravel, I had all those long ago. This is not over. Dr. Paul is going to get in. Believe it, know it, let it sink into your every cell. It is the only sane thing that can happen.

NO, it is not time for anything other than Daily Paul. Do you know all there is to know about McCain? Do you see anyone else besides McCain running against Dr. Paul? We must keep the faith. If now is the time in God's time, this will happen. We must be ready. Your head is floating. You need to get a grip.

While I agree that the

While I agree that the original post is ridiculous, you do not speak for all Ron Paul supporters when you say that we would support another candidate if Ron Paul told us to. "Ron Paul supporter" does not mean someone who blindly listens to what Ron Paul says and agrees with him. We support Ron Paul because he's right, not the other way around. "Ron Paul supporter" means patriot, lover of liberty.

No true Ron Paul supporter would support Gravel, McCain, Hillary, Obama, or anyone else merely because Ron Paul said so.
