Hi, I was 2 votes shy of getting elected as a Delegate. I was then nominated for Alternate and ended in a tie for the Alternate position. The tie is to be broken by State Comittee, does anyone know how they determine the tie breaker? I'm a RP supporter up against a former FBI employee for the tiebreaker, so my back is pretty much against the wall, but if somebody knows how they determine the tiebreaker maybee I can use that info to fight for the spot.
I attended the district 9 caucus today. We were only able to get one of the alternate delegate positions. But I do know one of the individuals who secured one ot the three delegate positions and I believe that after the first ballot where he is voting Romney that he could switch to Ron Paul.
Also there was a three way tie for the third alternate delegate postion and two of those are RP supporters. The tie breaking decision will be made in the next five days at the state level Anyone from MA. could contact Peter Torkildsen chairman of the MA. Rep. party and put in a good word for Garrett Quinn to help him secure a position as alternate delegate. Thank you.
when you checked in thed didnt check ID, party affiliation nothing. So I asked how the would verify you are a Republican they said I will have to trust you. So any Independent, democrat whatever could have been there and voting also. In 1 district the party bussed in a bus load to stack the deck. Could have been democrats? Who knows
This may be true, but if you found out that McCain delegates were chosen by non-Republicans, you'd be complaining to the media, the courts, and anyone who'd listen.
What do you want to bet they won't do the same to us if we tried it? And blame Ron Paul?
That was the wierdest thing. All I did was scribble a signature and an address and even though it was likely illegible there I was ... I could live in Wyoming and still have voted.
say if you do not get 15% of the popular vote you can not be on the ballot at the caucus. After the election if you get more than 15% you are elegible. You become bound to the canidates. In my district 2 were bound for romney and 1 for McInsane. There were not any Roberts rules here at all. Just a ballot for dellegates 2 bound for romney and 1 for MCInsane. There wasnt any motions or would they hear motions this was a caucus election only. This state is totally confusing. All rules and Laws were vague. I looked at the laws of Massachusetts and no where does it really say these things. The party rules say we are pledged for 1 round then we vote the way we want. But I see no laws or penalties to back this up. I also heard from the chairman Romney may release his delegates. When they were counting the votes the funniest thing happened. About 15 RP people surrounded them and counted the votes. I felt like I was back up in NH counting votes again. They were nervous as hell it was so funny. 1 of the ballots ended in a tie so they did a recount when the recount was done we picked up an extra vote, this guys hands were shacking and he was scurrying to find that missing vote. It did end in a tie
caucus was today and I will check in later tonight. Only partial results in.I was a district coordinator, Out of 3 delegates we got 1 and 2 alternates and a tie for the 3rd alternate. And what you all are saying is true. We missed cleaning up the whole slate by 2-3 votes. Prepare early and often. I dont have alot of time but will check in later. Some districts did a clean sweep 2 others did as well as mine and I have not heard from others. Please listen to Dr Steve. Although Massachusetts is alot different than others please listen. The only thing we could do today was vote for delegates. One of our delegates is still in high school and got 87 of 90 votes. He cleaned house
We elected one delegate and one alternate. I was surprised that the chairman even publicly acknowledged the Ron Paul group and thanked them for their support.
So, this means that we already have 5 out of the 30 Congressional District delegates that are going to the National Convention (and could possibly get more)? If so, congrats!
Ouch, came up about 6 votes short, everything basically went Party line, 44-39, and the Ron Paul slate lost. In the alternates, one candidate was able to break through and get elected an alternate.
Looks like one of the delegates might turn to Paul too.
It's hard to fight the establishment, both State Reps ran as a slate and brought out their friends to vote their slate.
For the alternates, we were 2 votes short to get another delegate.
Not to bash the campaign, but the campaign needed to alert regular people to register Republican before Feb 13th, would have killed them if independants could have votes.
I am a member of the third congressional district, in Massachusetts.
When I signed in this morning I was given two ballots each a different color.
In the third district. Mcsain is to get one delegate, and romney two.
One for Mcsain and the other for Romney. I asked on the spot where was the ballot for Ron Paul!
I was told to see our state Committee women, Debra Tucker, Debra told me that under state Committee rules that in order to qualify for a ballot each candidate had to get 15% of the vote during the state Primary.
I ask and was told by Debra and the Chairman of the Caucus, we could not nominate Ron Paul. The rules said nothing of this.
To add further injury, I asked two long time members, and so called Republican friends to nominate me as a Romney delegate, they said yes! but did not nominate me! in fact, one even made a motion to close the nomination process!
But before that happened, a motion by our state representative made a motion for a slate of nominees. This was not mentioned in the caucus rules either, flag dirty tricks!
I spoke with my republican city committee, vice chair, and explained my displeasure and back stabbing with the whole process. She told me that I should try to become an alternate delegate. Did I really want to spend $2,000 to become a delegate, I said yes I was willing. Then as I was speaking with her, is when I heard the motion by the back stabber, to close the nominations.
I then tore off my name tag. In the paper it was stated that the party expected 250 people to show up. The count was actually 89, so I walked out, that left 88.
Now I hear that someone, has another story, and got a Ron Paul delegate on as a delegate, in contrast to what I was told. But, it would seem that the published rules were not complete, or if so, were violated!
Would you contribute so that a legal challenge can be made?
You do not know me personally, so don't speak to me in a condescending tone! We all work hard for Ron Paul and the movement!
I tried to get voted in as a Romney delegate!
Got it!
I left because I was very angry! not a good thing...
I have been in this process for many years and I know most of the people making the plays. I was was told that even if we were to get delegates for Ron Paul, they were going to be challenged!
Daryl my frustration has peaked today so forgive my tone although i believe it is justified.
1: If you have been in this for years you should know you have no legal recourse from the way you just explained it and nothing you can do will change that now although it could have while you were there.
2: Why did you not call for the orders of the day to know what was on the agenda so if it was not on the agenda as you state then you could have legal recourse and then appeal from the decision of the chair? You could at any time called for a question of privilege and had the agenda stated for the record.
3: They also had every right to call for slate but did you object to consideration of the question?
4: I could go on and on and my only point is that you were not prepared as many have not been prepared and that is why we keep losing battles we should be winning with just the common sense of rules of order and that doesn't make you a bad person and i never said you were but i have been busting my ass to prepare people like yourself as to not let these things happen to you but now it is too late to help you.
Though it seems many are not taking the time to send my information out to the people that need it and that is where we are falling short.
I'm still seething from the process, you must please understand, I know the power players very well, personally, have for years.
I let my anger get the best of me and stopped functioning. However, you are incorrect, there is a chance for a challenge, I need time to cool down, and think.
Several years ago, I once served as Press Secretary, for an Attorney General candidate. I also managed the floor for her at the convention.
That former candidate I spoke of sued the State Party, when they thought they would be judgment proof, and she won, they tried to be exclusionary at that time as well.
I need to consult with her on this subject.
But as for now, please just let me have time to cool down. Some of those people involved instinctively know that I will settle with them, in a public way! It may be in the courts or in the papers, or both, well see
It doesn't matter if they call you a McCain delegate, Romney delegate, Huckabee delegate, or Paul delegate. It is all about getting to the Republican National Convention as a delegate and casting your ballot for Dr. Paul.
Hi! Just got back from this. We elected one Ron Paul delegate and two alternates, including Michael Nystrom as one of the alternates. Got to meet him--it was great!
In district 7, we won 1 delegate and 2 alts. Sadly I came in about 4 votes short with 3rd place. But I want to give a big congratulations to the owner of this site for becoming alt.!
