I Went Canvassing In Oregon Today
I knocked on 84 doors in 3 1/2 hours in a middle class suburb west of Portland. Here are the results:
RP supporters/positive: 9
McCain supporters: 2
Undecided Republicans: 2
Democrats: 6
Uninterested/refused: 18
Not home/no soliciting: 47
I will be posting notes on supporters' doors just before the election (May 20) to remind them to vote for Ron Paul and myself as PCP.
Many RP supporters thought he had dropped out! One person said she would vote for me just because I came to her house.
Canvassing is so easy and fun. I have done it several times and now have a long list of like-minded neighbors who are likely allies in case things get really bad around here.
Please - get to know your neighbors! The revolution will not be televised.

Make sure you are a precinct leader

Great resources, including names and phone numbers of registered voters so you can zero in on the most likely converts.
If this had come out last fall, things would have been very different.

Canvassing works. i brought my puppy along with me. It helped break the ice.
Keep up the good work!
This is great - a good way to meet your neighbors and get the RP message out at the same time!
Canvasssing resulted in 84% higher votes for RP.
When I was canvassing here in Bham, my district got 84% more votes for RP than the two neighboring districts where canvassing was not done. Canvassing works. Keep track of the RP supporters and:
Ask them to place a yard sign.
Ask them for their Phone # so you can call them on voting day.
Direct them to Daily Paul.
Invite them to canvass with you.
Get them to go to the caucus if applicable.
Campaign Signs
Ask the supporters you find if you can place a Ron Paul 2008 sign in their yard. This builds momentum.
"No Soliciting" Does not include talking about politics
Apparently there's a Constitutionally guaranteed right to talk politics that trumps any local ordinance against soliciting, and the courts are willing to uphold it (probably to make sure the politicians are happy).
You can also call people about politics, even if they're on the Do-not-Call list.

No Soliciting signs
usually mean the person who comes to the door will be upset. So, I just avoid conflict and leave a slim jim.
Thank You!
You should be really proud of what you've accomplished.
Boy, those results are execellent!!
Back when I was canvassing Los Angeles, I would get 1 or 2 RP, 20 McCain, 5 Romney, and the rest no interest/no answer.
So, I'd say Oregon has a lot more potential than California.
Keep it up and thanks for the post!
Eugene, Oregon
gave me similar results as yours. Washington County west of Portland is much more conservative/libertarian than Multnomah County (Portland). Oregon is probably the reddest state in the nation with the two bluest cities - Portland and Eugene.
I just love canvasing
I just love canvasing stories. I have a magneted hope for america sign on my car. People will come up and talk to me, usually with the comment that he can't win. I always say, well, who else are ya gonna vote for? I'm voting for him if I have to write him in, just so "they" will know how many of us know about them, and despise them.
You did a great job !
I hit a few homes yesterday and I had a funny one.
This guy had a sign in his front yard for someone running for a county position. He said the guy was his friend he hadn't even being paying attention to who was running for president. After looking over the Ron Paul slim jims that I gave him he agreed to vote for Ron Paul if I voted for his friend.
I told him he had a deal and we shook on it..
I was so afraid to canvass
but after I did it once I felt encouraged to do it again. I was so proud of myself. Bravo, to you and your efforts. Peace
I made nine new friends today.
Yes, it was worth it.
Way to go!
I used to live in Longview, Wa... I always had to drive to your side of the river for any real fun.. ;)
Good for you!
We haven't canvassed much, yet, but are getting signs up like crazy on our main highway. Last night we had another sign painting and painted 3 more 4 X 8s to put up.
When I am out canvassing and
When I am out canvassing and no one is home, I use a rubber band threaded thru the top of a slim jim as a door knob hanger. Also, Never spend a piece of paper money without first writing "RON PAUL for PRESIDENT" on it. Use all postage pre-paid envelopes to send back a liberty card or slim jim.
