Bob Barr Announces Presidential Exploratory Committee

"America today faces a grave moral and leadership crisis, and those of us who care about our country's future can no longer sit on the sidelines and remain neutral," Barr told an audience at the Heartland Libertarian Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

The former Georgia congressman left the GOP in 2006 over what he called bloated spending and civil liberties intrusions by the Bush administration.

Barr, 59, became a darling of conservatives in the 1990s for his persistent attacks on President Clinton. He was among the first to press for impeaching Clinton and helped manage House Republicans' impeachment case before the Senate.

He currently runs a lobbying and public affairs firm with offices in Atlanta and outside Washington.

I don't think Bob Barr is in the CFR...

Fortune Favors the Bold

Isn't he speaking with Ron Paul and Murray Sabrin at the April 15 rally? And didn't he introduce Paul at the CPAC meeting?

I don't really see them as being in competition. It doesn't hurt to have a backup option. If Paul fails to get the nomination, and endorses Barr, I would vote for Barr in the general. That's a big IF of course.

I think the media stories about Paul endorsing Barr are intended to make people think Paul has dropped out. Whatever, fine, that only helps us anyway at this point.

Perhaps

this forum should have been posted on the McCain site, instead of on DailyPaul.

He is not consistant with the constitution.

I never vote for the lesser of two evils because that means I vote for evil.
People need to stop voting for the won (the media says can win)
They need to for the best man.
If you belong to the THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANK, CIA, CFR, IRS, FBI, DEPARTMENT OF (MIS)EDUCATION, HOMELAND SECURITY, STATE DEPARTMENT, SECRET SERVICE, or any other federal agency then I understand you will protect your jobs by voting for a hand picked candidate that is a member of THE COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS.
.........................................................................................................
The CFR has given us three choices at this time Hillary, McCain, or Obama.
.........................................................................................................
It is understandable that they have people employed to make stupid posts on this web site and others to disrupt the Ron Paul revolution.
..........................................................................................................
This is a revolution and that means that we will break the arbitary rules ................... that the CFR has put in place ....................... to make sure no one but their candidate is elected.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
If we wish to play by their rules and not make up a few of our own then this would not be a revolution right?
As revolutionary's in 1776 our founding fathers had to make up a lot of rules that the King (establishment) did not like or agree with right??? We are in revolution and the establishment needs to reform itself to obey the constitution or this revolution will need to put them in place even if we must make our own rules for our actions. http://www.youtube.com/wa...

Good post, I just started to

Good post, I just started to hear about Barr myself. I dont know what he did in the past. The Paul camp seems to like him. What I seen lately I liked but its election time and I have zero trust for politicians not named Dr Paul.
I think the libertarians have a plan they backed a bunch of good people and who knows if Paul will play a part in it. Even as a endorser he has clout. If they get someone that will take votes away from McCain then we might see Paul in the cabinet.

wheres is this McCain forum @. Ill post till they ban me,

I don't know that much about him

Fortune Favors the Bold

Could you elaborate?

Well, in Ohio Ron Paul lost

Well, in Ohio Ron Paul lost the primary. I am not naïve enough to think that Ron Paul is going to some how win the nomination, thus it is time to move on to someone who will be there in November to represent liberty.

I know I will be labeled a troll, but go and listen to Ron Paul’s announcement, where he said the campaign will soon cease to exist but the movement will continue, well that movement is raising awareness of freedom in America, and I will do everything in my power to help carry the Ron Paul flag in November!

Ron has already said Bob Barr is a principled man who has come to see the light of Liberty, take his advice and move on to the Revolution aspect of this movement

yes hentvenson you're probably

a troll because you apparently you don't know that primaries are just rigged, fixed MSM popularity contests. You also don't know your history either about surprise wins in presidential elections. Nor about delegates.

Even if you're shilling for Bob Barr, why don't you take it to an Obama site. Thanks, no thanks.

I don't trust it either....

Seems there's some not too good history but I cannot recall now....

Once again....the old ploy to siphon off voters from Ron Paul WHO STILL IS RUNNING! Why now also? If he was seriously going to run, why didn't he start at the beginning??

I DON'T TRUST ANYONE COMING INTO THE RACE AT THIS LATE STAGE no matter how "similar" a platform they run to Ron Paul's!

It's either Ron Paul or no one!!!

I'm with you fram --

this is real fishy. Just like it's been said that Nader jumped in to pay McCain back a favor & divert off some Democrats, Barr is doing this for some ulterior motives.

And the not so good history is that Barr has seemingly made a radical 180 turn in his beliefs and views. He voted for the Patriot Act, altho it was after amendments were made to it. He was a strong supporter of the War on Drugs, for crying out loud & opposed legalizing marijuana & blocked medical use of it, altho now he's changed his mind. He came out against gay marriages, even though it's not the Fed's business. He proposed the Pentagon ban the practice of Wicca in the military (!!) -- can you say freedom of religion??

Check out wikipedia (not Wiccapedia!) for full details and rewatch Borat. Barr is in a scene there being pranked.

So, he ain't no "true believer" like Ron Paul. Politicians don't just change their colors overnight, especially to unpopular ones because they suddenly get a dose of reality or the freedom blues. Then again, maybe he did get dosed -- someone put something in his drink. who knows? Just don't trust the guy yet whereas I loved Ron Paul right away...

yes

Divide and conquer has been used for years to keep good americans from a real choice.
The establishment (CFR) does not want to give up power so they are trying to divide and conquer again.
They (CFR) also have their employees put comments on this site to divide the Ron Paul supporters.
.........................................................................................................
True Ron Paul supporters can see right through their divisive statements.
..........................................................................................................
Spy's will post comments that they are supporting (someone other than Ron Paul) because they might have a chance to win.
..........................................................................................................
There is only one Ron Paul and the other candidates are so ""deceptive"" and misleading that anyone that has chosen an honest statesman like Ron Paul will not be compromised or turned away from Ron Paul.
........................................................................................................
This is a revolution and that means we will """""not follow the rules""""" of the CFR to win .........
We will resort to something that the CFR has never thought of using.
That is the using the ****** truth, the constitution, and Ron Paul's voting record to win the hearts and minds of our countrymen..
..........................................................................................................
We will not be divided by (PAID, SALARIED) wimps (employees) of the CFR.

Think before you post

Barr is running for the Libertarian Party nomination. He isn't entering the race late at all. The LP doesn't have primaries and selects their nominee at a convention in the summer. Paul is running for the GOP nomination, which has primaries and caucuses, over half of which are already over. Barr isn't "siphoning" votes away from Paul. Their campaigns have nothing to do with each other. Barr is likely to win the LP nod. Paul has little hope of winning the GOP nod. If Paul wins the GOP nomination, then yeah, there would be a conflict. But if that happened, Barr would likely stand aside and the LP would rally around Paul. But that isn't what is going to happen. Barr will be the LP nominee in November and McCain will be the GOP nominee and my vote is going to go for Barr (who will likely have Ron's endorsement).

good

Nice to see CFR plants expressing themselfs

Actually...

he's right about Barr not siphoning votes. He won't siphon anything until the general election. Where he goes wrong is in assuming that Barr will be the presumptive nominee of the LP by merely throwing his hat in the ring. The sudden change in his stances plus the fairly decent slate of candidates already up for the LP nomination will cause him much trouble.

One more possible incorrect assumption he makes is in assuming that someone as mentally unstable, incontinent (as in has to wear depends) and incompetent as McInsane actually winning at the convention. If Ron wins, then I'm betting the LP nominee (especially if it's Barr) and the LP as a whole will back off and endorse RP as a fusion candidate. A CFR plant though??? Prolly not. I've studied them (the CFR) and their tactics for 16 years and can spot them and their minions a mile away and the poster you responded to ain't one of them. Misguided maybe, but not a CFR shill.

Paul.

Ron Paul has exited the

Ron Paul has exited the race.
He will spend no more money on this election.
He will serve as a congressmen from Texas.
He will endorse Bob Barr-and ask all of us to support him.
But people will still write Ron in and waste a vote?

If you want to help liberty you will help Barr like you helped Paul, this is the next step of the Ron Paul Revolution.

This is the one shot for the Lib. Party to be propeld to the national spot light and you people are going to write in Ron Paul? A vote that is wasted unless the candidate himself files a letter of acceptance of write in votes, which is not going to happen.

if Ron endorses Barr we should back him 100%

Paid Bob Barr Troll Alert!

Libertarian party more important than Ron Paul's message? Don't think so. And you're a psychic predicting he will support Barr? Okay. Now run along.

Ron Paul HAS NOT exited the race

Fortune Favors the Bold

Check out his april 3rd speech,

I agree with your last statement, but that's a big IF. I don't think Paul will endorse anyone till after the convention. Even then, he still might not, since the republican party might decided to censure him, which would hurt all the other ron paul republicans running this year.

I don't get this my party versus your party stuff. It's about principle. Republican, Libertarian, Constituion, heck, even democrat, if the person supports the constitution and the philosophy of liberty, who cares what party their in?

You have to understand we have a strategy here, and it's working, We are taking over the apparatus of the republican party. It's a long shot, but we may even still win Paul the nomination. Even if we don't, what we are doing will open up the party for liberty minded candidates, and diminish the influence of the neo-cons. Why can't libertarians and Republicans just put aside their differences and agree to work together towards our common goals?

It is important

It is important to know that the CFR still has employees to post on this site. That they support someone other than Ron Paul.
It proves that they are still scared of Ron Paul the Constitution and freedom.

ha ha you're right roben

these are new little Barr trollies, so obvious.

agreed

I will almost surely support who Dr Paul backs. I was a libertarian prior to discovering and voting for Dr Paul during the primary, and was planning to give a close consideration to the libertarian in the general. (Assuming Dr Paul doesnt win the Republican Nomination)

Until Ron Paul does those

Until Ron Paul does those things. He WILL be getting our vote. Drop it.

RP for me. I'll write him in if he does not get the nomination.

This business of trying to lure people away from Ron Paul on a forum to elect HIM president is becoming very irritating.

As far as the movement/revolution being about more than Ron Paul, sure RP-type people need to be in OTHER offices for it to keep going, but for PRESIDENT, I'm sticking with the original.

"Plan B" for me is write-in, not write-off.

Yep

Yep

I agree with your post below about "fair tax".

Big red flag went up for me, too.

Barr and Fair tax?

Yikes...

Why is it so hard to get a libertarian that actually follows the non-aggression principle to run for the LP presidency?

I watched Borat last night

I watched Borat last night for the second (and third!) time and Bob Barr has one of the funniest scenes in the movie. I didn't know who he was the first time I saw it.

cheese

Yes, its the guy who Borat offered cheese to. I believe he eats a piece and then Borat says it was made from his wifes breast milk.

I had to look it up on Wikipedia ;)

For those Ron Paul

For those Ron Paul Republicans who want to work from within to change the Republican Party, but who can't--for reasons of principle, or for reasons of resentment for the way that John McCain treated Dr. Paul--bring themselves to vote for John McCain, Bob Barr could provide a nice alternative. Many of his views can be tied to what the Republican Party claims to believe in. He and Ron Paul appear to have some mutual respect for one another. And a vote for Bob Barr (quietly, if you're trying to work within the Republican Party), would not seem totally hypocritical (although a vote for Mike Gravel might). It all comes down--in my view--to where one stands on the libertarian spectrum. For those who tend to be more conservative (economic) libertarians, Bob Barr makes a lot of sense--as does/did Ron Paul. For those who tend to be more leftist libertarians (with less emphasis on economic issues), he may not be quite such a good fit.

It makes

It makes sense for people that are not Ron Paul supporters to make posts to divide the Ron Paul supporters.
Divide and conquer has been done to americans for years why stop this year.

Considering his constantly

Considering his constantly changing positions and some of the more outragious things hes done. IM not sure I could trust him....he can talk the talk...but....

Not to mention this is like

Not to mention this is like the 4th forum thread today about this guy. Spend 2 minutes at wikipedia and you'll see Bob Barr has voted for and done some pretty uncool things. Sorry Bob. The Revolution just ain't feeling ya.

Uh, no thanks

Fair tax raises a huge red flag for me. And this guy for too long was very comfortable with the Republican Party's Great March to socialism. I think he's trying to lead libertarians and conservatives a bit more toward the collectivist camp. I'll pass.
