Truth is Treason - DOCUMENTARY FILM
This will only apply in the event that Ron Paul does not get the GOP nomination.
-It starts out reminding us of how this country became the most prosperous, powerful, and influential country in the world. It would be modeled after Ron Paul's new book, but catered to educating Americans that are clueless.-
So I was thinking about what's been going on with the campaign, what I can do to help wake people up, and wondering what, if any, Dr. Paul's plan is at this point. So I thought of an idea, though it might never happen, I felt this was the best place to throw it out there and see if people agree.
Now, whether we agree (I personally don't anymore) with what Al Gore had to say about Global Warming in "An Inconvenient truth" there is one thing I think we all can't deny. The impact that documentary had on the world.
All of us Ron Paul supporters know the impact Aaron Russo's "America: Freedom to Fascism" had on waking us up to everything that's going on under our noses.
That is when I got to thinking. I'm sure we can all agree that Americans are lazy (Generally speaking) and the only way to get to the masses is in front of their TV.
Dr. Ron Paul has written a book "The Revolution: A Manifesto" due out April 30th. I'm sure it's going to be an amazing book, and I intend to buy it. The problem is, getting everyone else that are unaware of the truth to buy it. Not to mention the vast majority of people that don't even read books! I don't know the exact numbers, but I'm sure at least 90% of Americans watch TV, or at least movies.
The Campaign has $5 million + if I'm not mistaken. I don't know his intentions with the money and I don't presume to know how to better spend it, I just thought.... Right now he is still touring the US spreading the message. I started to wonder if that's his plan with the rest of the money? If so, I was thinking how much more of an impact a documentary would have!
I was thinking, if it gave a brief history to remind Americans why we were such a great country, free markets, small government, the PEOPLE told the government what to do etc. Then went on to cover (only FACTS) on how we are losing freedoms, government is taking over and it needs reduced.... etc. Basically covering Ron Paul's campaign but making the point that his campaign was not about him, it was about WE THE PEOPLE taking our country back from big government and big business.
If he were to use this $5+ Million on that, it would be a lasting tool that EVERYONE could use to wake people up! It would be the Revolution Manifesto on DVD! That would be how we could get people off of their couches and motivated. It would be the BEST way to make an impact with that money and make it last. Ron Paul is an educator, what better way to educate the American people!?
Well... That was my idea. If you all agree.. maybe we should try to pass the word along?
Thanks for your time!

Ben Stein has a documentary
Ben Stein has a documentary coming out, I cant wait to go see it. I think this would be a great role for Ron Paul. Make a documentary showing all the corruption and go on freedom tours, we need to untie as much as possible and get the people behind us. We also need our own cable channel, that could show these documentaries report news.
Yea
He's pickin up what I'm puttin down!
It's obvious, if you don't make a movie, no one will know. Americans are lazy!
Consider an Alternate Title?
I don't know about calling it "A Manifesto". Although a manifesto is simply a public declaration of intentions, opinions, objectives, or motives, as one issued by a government, sovereign, or organization (ref: Dictionary.com), I rather suspect that most of the time, when most people hear or read the word "manifesto," their first thought is "Communist Manifesto" and their second thought is "Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber." I actually thought it was an unfortunate choice for RP's book title, even though you and I know what the true meaning of the word is.
Right off the bat, as soon as people see/hear that word, they likely have a knee-jerk misconception, and are immediately put on their guard. Consdering that you hope to attract the mainstream masses, I would recommend choosing a different title for the documentary, despite the fact that RP's book uses that title.
I would also avoid "revolution" and other hot-button words. Consider: most people you are trying to reach won't set out looking for a movie about revolution, unless it's a historical epic on the French Revolution or some such. Most folks want an action-packed, entertaining film (natch!), so, were I considering titles, I might try to think of a hook that would get the people in the theaters. Having said that, I don't presently have any brilliant idea for an alternate title (!) but I think if you want to target the masses, ya gotta think like the masses.
You don't catch a fish by dangling a frying pan into the water...
Good point/ New title
I didn't actually think it should have that name. I just thought it would attract attention on here (DP) even though it appears I wasn't totally right.
Title idea - "Truth is treason" (in the empire of lies)?
I absolutely LOVE that quote.
I understand your point, but again... think about the impact "An inconvenient truth" had on the world. There was nothing exciting about it. Just informative.
Why
Why does it only apply if Ron Paul does not get the nomination? Seems that it should be done asap whether or not he gets the nomination and whether or not he becomes president. This would help get him the nomination.
I agre
I guess I was just referring to the effective spending of campaign money.
A independent movie would be great...
I agree - need three things:
1. A script writer
2. A independent movie house that can be persuaded to do it for a profit
3. Money!
If anyone can provide any of those resources then get them together. Let me know details at eesjresquire@netscape.net - I'll see what time I have to help but woiuld be interested.

The Dr.
I was actually thinking that it would be best scripted around the book he just wrote, and having him supervise as well. Or consulting with Dr. Paul at least
We definitely need a
We definitely need a documentary that explains the Constitution, freedom and the encroachment of our government. I put a thread up here a few months ago asking if one was out there but the closest I got was an old John Birch Society piece.
We need a documentary that:
1) Explains freedom and our founders
2) Explains the usurpation of powers, and why we need to stop it
3) How to get involved to stop it
The last point is the most critical. I've talked to too many people who know there is something wrong but won't research it and won't do anything because of the "what can I do" line of thinking. We need to show them action and success. They need to know how they are being robbed and how to step up, come together and stop it.
I doubt this would ever get a wide release in theaters but it can go online for free. Additionally, we could burn them ourselves to hand out.
Three hours in three one hour parts. Make it easily split up to show on public access TV. Production costs could be paid for the same way we paid for the blimp and the campaign, money bombs. I doubt it would cost more than $1 million and would probably cost closer to $500,000 if done right. This is far more effective, both in cost and conveyance of the message, than all the "slim jims" in the world.
There is the Audio Book...
..I placed an order for the book and the Audio book to listen on the way to work.
I was going to order the audio book
until I saw that it was read by someone other than Ron Paul. I would much rather hear it read by the Man himself.
Yeah, wouldn't that be
Yeah, wouldn't that be creepy hearing it read by, say, Jack Nicholson, or Al Gore?! Like hearing the "Star Spangled Banner" being played by toned farting.
Screaming infomercial
for a long time, I guess this is sort of like that. I like the idea. Can you call and start putting together costs. The dvds could be sold to make some money and the documentary could be either in theaters or put on tv. I don't think the money in the campaign is necessarily the right money to use. Maybe get the money together like any other movie would or get it together from grassroots.

Very powerful.
I teared up.
Thanks, Nui.
Alot Of Paid Programming
I have not idea how much it costs to buy a hour on CNBC or FoxBusiness on sunday morning. I noticed they run that stuff sunday morning. I would not imagine it would be to expensive. DirectTV if full of paid advertising all day long.
Think
Think more along the lines of "An inconvenient truth" or AFTF. A full length movie. Released in theaters. The grassroots would promote the crap out of it. It should have the same name as the book (A Manifesto). If it does will in theaters, it will eventually make it to TV. But the key is for it to make it to DVD and google video. Then we can spread it like wild fire!
The profits should go to an organization that Dr. Paul can spearhead to keep the movement going. Or ... make a website as elaborate as his with all the info grassroots needs to organize the movement.

Thinking about it as well...
My problem with it is that you cannot educate someone who doesn't want to be. I agree it would be a wonderful tool, but most of the people I know came to Ron Paul through a friend or another person. Once you can link thier problems or ideals to the ideals of the rEVOLution, THEN they take the time to find out what's really going on. You have to make it personal because it is such a big mind-shift from the ~norm~.
So it would indeed be a great tool for someone who wants to know. For those who do not want to know, a documentary itself will not change how they think. It has to be personal.
IMHO, and I'm usually wrong at least once a day.. ;)
Understandable.
But, that should be one of the goals of the Documentary. Of all of the issues the candidates bring up, at least one will be personal with everyone. That is why they are the major "Issues." If the Doc. is done right, it will hit home on all of the issues concerning all Americans.
Immigration
Health care
Economy
Taxes
jobs
RP said it best when he said "you need to understand what the role of government ought to be." This doc will remind everyone that America was the greatest nation in the world because of FREEDOM in all respects. Not government regulation of everything.
Something to think about.
Bump!
hmm
not much interest?
Bump
Shameless one at that
