RP Supporters willing to "lie, cheat, and steal??" The MN GOP is scared!
This is in the morning's edition of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Many of you have read about the success RP supporters had in the state with delegates; this is, IMO, a pretty fair article from the local paper on the subject.
To this guy, I say "Wahhhh!":
"We knew they were coming and they were willing to lie, cheat and steal -- maybe not steal, but they were willing to say anything," Andy Aplinkowski, the district's vice chairman, said of the Paul supporters.

Remember the phrase?
Remember the saying “imitation is the best form of flattery?” Not that I'm saying Ron Paul supporters are doing anything questionable.
They should quit it with the
They should quit it with the crocodile tears and calling foul for everything. They started it, we're the smart ones that want to pay them back with the same quarter. We're just trying to recover what's ours: our country.
I'm really offended at that guy!
... how dare he imply we are as bad as our government.
It's called blowback people!
It's called blowback people! Here's a slogan for the future: "It's the blowback, stupid!". We won't back down, nor will we nor should we. It's time to get even with them and this time guys IT'S PERSONAL!

The Power of Rhetoric
Was this the GOP's actual question? --
"Would you support John McCain IF he is the party's nominee."
I'd like to find out the actual wording of their question. It is important, and here's why:
State/Nat'l GOPs are declaring that McCain IS the nominee (which is why RP's name is left off their sites as a presidential contender).
To then ask the question, "Would you support McCain IF he is is the party's nominee" clearly means that the party's nominee is, in fact, still undetermined.
I think if a delegate is asked, "Would you support McCain IF he is is the party's nominee?" then a wise, stealthy response would be something along the lines of:
(stated with a slight shock, like you're taken aback) "Oh -- you said "if" -- so, McCain is not presently the offical GOP nominee, then?" (adopt worried look on your face)
and/or
"Wait; according to your GOP website, and things said here, John McCain is, in fact, the party's sole nominee. Are you saying he might not be?"
If they try to say, well, yes, McCain is the nominee, immediately request documentation to confirm that, since they're using the word "if" -- force them to point to something that solidly confirms his official party nomination, so you can "rest at ease" (of course, they won't be able to!)
Whatever the outcome, if they ask you the question again, tell them the truth (and it wouldn't hurt to say it a bit indignantly): "Why, as a Republican, I naturally want to support the party to further the ideals of the GOP!" Then gently shake your head at them for questioning your loyalty.
If they further press you, respond with a rhetorical question, a we're-in-this-together kind of smile on your face: "C'mon. Who could possibly be a better choice for president?!?"
---> Other honest phrases to use, when combined with the right types of facial expressions and vocal intonations:
"Look, it's clear that the party supports McCain. As a Republican, I want the party to make the best choice for our nominee!" (Two unrelated statements which are individually completely true.)
"There's no question about McCain's qualifications to be president." (true, there's no question: he is ineligible, and has further broken FEC regulations, also rendering him ineligible.)
"One of the protected freedoms fought for by our brave veterans, such as McCain, is the right to cast a private ballot, so I won't name names [insert sly, knowing smile here]. I can assure you, my vote is devoted to the candidate whose military commitment is beyond reproach!"
You can think of others. Be creative. Always smile when saying words like "McCain" or other certain words/phrases to display your enthusiasm and devotion. Tell the truth. But tell them in a way that they'll want to hear.
I'd be more inclined to
I'd be more inclined to believe that the district vice chairman was lying about the RP supporters. The neocons are simply running scared and are sore LOSERS.

I miss Steve already....
It is called "don't ask, don't tell"
Besides, why was the question posed anyhow?
From what I understand, a
From what I understand, a lot of the potential delegates wanted to know the same thing.

McCain: Guilty on all charges
Lie: McCain vs McCain: http://www.youtube.com/wa...
Cheat: FEC Violations: http://www.boston.com/new...
Steal: By applying for matching funds. Even though it's legal, doesn't change the fact that was willing to take advantage of a bad system for his personal gain.
I wonder how many Republicans are running on McCain's platform of Less Jobs, More Wars as well as amnesty for illegals, pro-big government, anti-tax cuts, anti second-amendment, etc?
Would Ron Paul resort to this?
The answer is no. He never would.
The promotion of lying and cheating on this site is sickening.
Ron Paul 2008!
It is a difficult question.
If you feel that the desperate circumstances of our nation does not justify lying to the enemy, I can respect that. Even the fact that we are facing opponents who have lied repeatedly to gain their positions of power and influence may not be sufficient for you to bend your principles.
If so I would recommend that you simply state, "I will vote for the candidate who best represents the Republican Party, its platform, and will make the best President of the United States."
Leave it to THEM to interpret this as meaning someone other than John McCain.
I like this!

Now to commit it to memory, and work hard to be a delegate and get a chance to say that!

There was no lying involved ...
According to those who actually were a part of this whole thing in Minnesota, they did not lie about anything. Apparently, much of the disagreement centers around the fact that the GOP was attempting to "pre-screen" potential delegates by asking them about supporting John McCain. According to the Ron Paulians (for lack of a better term - no disrespect meant!), they were asked, "Would you support John McCain IF he is the party's nominee." Not to get all Clinton-esque, but I suppose it boils down to your interpretation of the word "if". The Ron Paul supporters claim that by answering in the affirmative to this question, it was not a lie at all .... because in their minds, that's a big "IF".
Please note - much of this post is taken from my memory of posts regarding the Minnesota situation over the past couple of days. If I have this wrong, or if anybody can add more, please feel free ...
You've got it right justjenmi
that's pretty much the way that I remember it!

Proud Ron Paul Supporter
Thanks, Christi! So I take
Thanks, Christi!
So I take it you were there? I give you guys tons of credit! I'm originally from northern MN and I was initially kind of nervous about what kind of support RP would get (particularly up on the Range) ... but I was sooo pleasantly surprised to see how well he did in the state! Keep up the great work :-)
Do you think MCCain.........
Do you think McCain has become the presumptive Republican nominee by being an honest politician? We must take back the Republican Party back to its true conservatism ways, as McCain and the neocons have stoled the Republican Party from us.
Become a delegate NOW
Good luck,
Latinos for Ron Paul

Playing by the Rules
We are playing by the rules...their rules (GOP) and those rules include changing the rules...

Spin
Just because some GOP sorehead accuses us of lying, cheating and stealing doesn't mean that's what's going on.
We are committed
to restoring the Republic. Isn't that right, Jen?
I would hope so ...
I'm not going to get involved in the debate about whether the tactics are appropriate or not, because frankly, I am farrrrrr from an expert on that issue, but I can say this: I think it's terrific that people who were probably highly apathetic and uneducated about politics and our electoral system are now getting involved and becoming part of the process. I hope the Ron Paul campaign for the presidency was/is just the beginning of a larger change!!
hell yes
Whatever it takes!!
They stole our representation from us...
...with lies and manipulation. Which prompts me to ask...Blowback is a bitch, isn't it?
Common Gang
We need more stealth! If they know we are lying, it tips them off. Make sure your good at lying about lying, unlike Hillary.

this really is encouraging.
this really is encouraging. Ron with almost no media coverage and when he does its less than favorable is still getting delegates. It means people are loosing confidence in old media aka msm. We need to push hard, I think ron Paul needs to get on this freedom tour and keep rallying the country, as this economy conintues to crash he is like a prophet and it shows he knows what hes talking about. I thik we could establish some serious momentum, people who wouldnt listen before will now because the economy is going to crap.
willing to say anything ?
Why should we be any different than the neocons ?
Right
Now, suddenly it's a problem when their own tactics are used against them. I say, good!
This is the part I like best!
Realizing that the Paul supporters were rolling to victory, Aplikowski made a motion that would bind the delegates to McCain at the national convention. It was approved, but he said he doesn't know if it's legally enforceable.
He doesnt know if it is legally enforcable! Ha!
All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent" Thomas Jefferson
I know!
Nice try, Aplikowski!!
