Any tips on how to gain Convention support for Ron Paul Delegates?

We are getting read for our Convention, and are thinking about "canvassing" the other (non-Ron Paul) delegates to convert them to our cause, and identify sympathizers/supporters amoungst the GOP regulars, prior to the event. Could make all the difference for getting any Ron Paul suporters to National. Does anyone know of any resources for this purpose? (special Slim Jims, DVDs, etc) Any tips for specifics on what does or does not work? Time is of the essence!

Fixed elections

We need to down load this video http://www.youtube.com/wa... and make copies and give them to every candidate running for election and encourage them to demand paper ballots.
Those that do not demand paper ballots ............ may not want them because they have hired someone to fix the computers so they can win.
Without the paper ballot the public is being cheated out of an honest election.
We still need to pass out slim jims and put up our signs and campaign for Ron Paul.
If all of the delegates are given a about 100 DVD's from their constituents showing election fraud and encouraged to vote for the man and ignore the primary results.
No voting machine is trustworthy.
We may still win Ron Paul the nomination.

A GREAT DVD from Alaska

http://www.nolanchart.com...
The article discusses how the Alaska Ron Paul supporters went after McCain supporters, with some success. Contact Evan Cutler for more information and help (down at the bottom of the article.) The DVD begins with an introduction specific to Alaska, so other states may want to add their own introductions, along the same lines. I watched the DVD myself, and found it VERY persuasive. Of course, I had been persuaded before I even watched it, but even so ... a fine job.

You Want to Start Early

You want to start giving them DVD's and SlimJims, early.

I think I would start by identifying each delegate and deciding who should take them to lunch. Somebody who is a neighbor or shares some other common interest. One or two people should meet with them and ask their advice for how to get things done at the convention.

Ask them about Robert's Rules, ask them about resolutions, ask them about what kinds of things to bring. If you're not going, then ask them how to go about going next time. What does it take to get involved?

Once you have established a relationship, ask them about Ron Paul's chances. Get their reaction. They'll like him, dislike him, or know nothing about him since he can't win. Either way, point out that you have some additional information on him that might shed some light. Point out that since he has such a grass-roots following, maybe they can learn something from his success.

Offer to loan them a DVD. Ask them when they think they'll have had time to look at it, and arrange to get it back from them after that. (This puts it on their schedule with a deadline.)

As for the DVD, someone in another thread was talking about making one. There are several around. You could also promise to send him/her an e-mail with links if they have broadband.

It's hard to know which slimjim to give them until you know their position on an issue. During your lunch, you should find out what this delegate cares about most, preferably an issue on which Ron Paul has an answer. Then send them a link to something from Ron Paul about it.

Good luck. It's all much easier if you make friends, first.

yes bump..thanks Joel.

yes bump..thanks Joel.

Find out who the delegate living closest to you is.

Canvas all of his neighbors with slim jims and e mails and later on yard signs.
Then contact the delegate and have as many meet up members as you can mail the delegate every other day showing Ron Paul's voting record and some of them can be turned to Ron Paul.

Here's what we're doing

I took a class in Denver where a Democrat and a Republican described how they made it to their respective National conventions. These were the most important things I learned:

1. Be young, attractive, positive and energetic. Everyone wants to send the kind of people that reflect well on the Party. They love sending young people because they're the future.

2. Do NOT campaign for Ron Paul, campaign for YOU!
Print up professional quality campaign materials with a clever "Republican sounding" joke or a play on your name.
Example: One woman made it to Nationals because she handed bumber stickers that said: "John Kerry for President of France - Vote for Sue Smith"

3. Do NOT talk about political issues. Just say you want to make the Republican Party strong again. (If you support Ron Paul then you obviously DO want a strong party because he's the only one who can derail the Party from it's impending train wreck -- but don't tell THEM that.)

4. Do NOT put your campaign materials on the seats where delegates will be sitting. Lots of people do this and nearly everyone throws away the stuff on their seats. Instead, you and other volunteers who support you need to walk around, chat with people and hand them the campaign materials.

Also, on our own, we did this:
5. Get together with all the other Ron Paul delegates and agree to vote on a specific slate of candidates so that everyone concentrates their votes. Always vote starting at the top of the list, working your way down so everybody votes for the same people.
If you meet a new Ron Paul supporter at the assembly and they want to run as a delegate, tell them to vote for themselves AND the names at the top of the list (because if you tell them to only vote for people on the list, they'll get mad that you're not considering them and they'll just throw your list away).
When I was at my county assembly we had less than half the delegates, but our voting was so tightly coordinated with an agreed-upon slate that we won 80% of the delegates.

Good tips

To re-iterate DO NOT associate yourself with Ron Paul. Avoid most issues, especially foreign policy! Dress nice and try to look your best (professional best, not "date" best). get together with as many RP delegates as you can at least a few days prior to the convention so you all know who each other is. Bring cell phones and put them on vibe, and use them to text across the convention hall with other RP delegates there (they did this in some of the Texas district conventions, and it paid off in spades!).

LEARN ROBERT'S RULES OF ORDER. I cannot stress that enough. You can all attend the convention, but unless at least some of you are very fluent in parliamentary procedure you will not be near as effective as you would want!

Pass this on

to every RP delegate you know.

Bump this to the limit.

This is valuable advice. If you have not, consider posting this reply as a thread and keep bumping it!!!
Most of the district/state conventions will not have consist of a majority of RP delegates. It doesn't matter if we are organized and vote as a block.

But if we don't we will end up not even converting our percentage into RP national delegates.

Agreed -- good thread

Let's have some more suggestions

I'm sure there are many suggestions
