I am absolutely perplexed as to why General Patraeus was unable to answer the question. Generals make oaths to uphold and defend the constitution, correct? I cannot imagine General Patraeus making such an oath without at least reading the constitution. Yet, the general and the guy next to him basically said they "don't know" and that it's not their job.

So, basically what they are saying is that their oath to uphold and defend the constitution of the US depends on their job function? Ridiculous.

All they did was danced around the question when they already know the answer. Good thing RP gave it to them.

Both Patraeus and Crocker said they were Iraq and couldn't answer. Did anyone else see this live. I noticed Sheila Jackson-Lee (@2:36 on the counter) is not shown asking about authority to bomb Iran. When I watched live, I recall that she also asked that question or, under what conditions would that be the case and was told it was classified by Patraeus who told her would answer her in private. Do I have the wrong Representative? I couldn't find what I saw this aftenoon.
