does anybody know about "the raw food diet"?
sorry this is a little off topic.
does anyone know of the raw food diet?
the theory is you only eat raw natural food which hasn't been cooked. cooking destroys all the enzymes and all the good stuff.
i beleive you can still eat meats (just un-cooked) as well as eggs.
people say it gives them more energy, need less sleep, more happy and mental clarity.
sounds interesting.
anyone know about this? is on it? tried it and dosen't work?
please discuss

It comes from reformed vegans
who don't know how to cook! 8]
Isnt that when you dont bother to microwave
your Lean Cuisine because youre in a hurry and it really dosnt help anyway?
Denmark was plagued by a serious food shortage.
"The value of whole, unrefined foods .was dramatically demonstrated on a grand scale during the First World War. Denmark was plagued by a serious food shortage. The government assigned Dr. M. Hindhede, the director of the Danish Institute of Nutrition Research, to design a program for protecting the nation from the hunger threat.
The first action of Hindhede was to increase whole- grain production by limiting livestock production and curtailing the sale of meat, thus saving grain for human consumption. Production of alcoholic beverages was banned for the same reason. Also, grain processing was stopped and only whole-grain bread and cereals were allowed to be sold. Farmers were directed and encouraged to produce more grain, green vegetables, fruits, milk and butter, instead of meat."
"These simple, but from a nutritional standpoint revolutionary , changes in eating habits resulted in spectacular and rapid changes in the health condition of the whole nation. The death rate dropped over 40% in one year. Diseases that affected other European countries, including the dreaded influenza epidemic, bypassed Denmark. In only a few years, Denmark became the healthiest nation in all of Europe! " (p. 46)

heard they did a study in California. Made people with diabetes go on it for two weeks, and poof they had no more diabetes. Haven't researched it but it came from a good friend of mine.
I recommend this detox program to clean out the colon.

Do your own research, but I truly believe in this program. They also have one for kidney and liver detox.
I could never just eat raw fruits and veggies for the rest of my life, (I like steak too much) but I can do a 5 day - 2 week program once a year.
You also can google Dr. Shulze and read about the man and products.
Best of luck.
I'm not disciplined enough
I'm not disciplined enough to do a raw food diet, but I can see it's appeal
Where do you get your
information? I have over ten science books and numerous journals dealing with enzymes and not one source has ever claimed that enzymes are destroyed at 118 degF. The only place I have seen this information is in raw food books (I have several) and on QuackWatch.com. This information is FALSE. Amalyse enzymes are used to break down carbohydrates. Turn starches into sugars. Which is the exact process used in brewing. Most breweries mash (which is the process of having the enzymes break-down the starches into sugars which are then used by the yeast to make alcohol)their beer usually between 140 to 165 degrees. We have actually gone higher with some success. So if one type of digestive enzyme prefers 140-165 degrees to actually do their work, how can they be destroyed at 118 degF? It's impossible.
I am not debating the raw diet, I recommend 90% raw to my clients, just this misplaced falsehood.
Sorry
This was meant for RawFoodLiberty below.
There are differing opinions, but towards raw I go . . . . 100%
Cooking Destroys all Enzymes - Professor Virtanen
"Cooking destroys enzymes 100%. Enzymes are vital catalysts, absolutely essential for the proper digestion and assimilation of the food, as well as for all other functions in your body. Nobel Prize Winner, Professor Virtanen, from Finland, has demonstrated that in the process of chewing raw foods, new active substances are formed in the mouth with the help of enzymes. It is estimated that about 600 various enzymes are essential for human health, but all enzymes in foods are destroyed in cooking. In addition, cooking destroys many of the vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins B and C are particularly vulnerable to the effect of heat and cooking. Minerals also are depleted by cooking and are usually thrown away with the cooking water."
And yes, not cooking foods over 105 degrees is a personal opinion, but I am learning how to make a "slow cooked" energy soup, which is closer to 118 degrees. I'm doing more green smoothies too. Also, there are popular recipies for "fermented" raw beverages. And alchohol destroys cells . . . dries them out. That too, an opinion from reasearch.
More heat speeds up the fermentation process . . .
Alcohol is lethal. I actually prefer the idea of 108 to 112 degrees as being easier on the cellular make up. I like the electricity.
The rawfood lifestyle is not a diet and not a religion. If you eat cooked sometimes, doesn't mean you've failed. The life style is about better food choices. The body does digest cooked food, but not as efficiently as raw foods. Make food your medicine, and medicine your food. This blog has some great references for learning to do the raw lifestyle.
What do you
mean, "you prefer the idea of 108 to 112 degrees"? Are you talking about enzymes or something else. In addition temperature does effect fermentation but no brewery that I know of heats the wort to speed up fermentation. They cool it to stop fermentation but nobody heats it. Is you statement about alcohol a statement of opinion or of science?

My experience...
Years ago (maybe 10?) my whole family was on a modified Hallelujah Diet (80% raw, including juicing/20% cooked - no animal products). I don't really remember any details about how it made us feel. There are many people that claim that the Hallelujah Diet has greatly improved their health.
Two summers ago, I was experiencing severe headaches daily and so decided to try the Hallelujah diet again. My headaches went away and I felt a lot better. Unfortunately, it is a very hard diet to keep on, especially if the rest of the family is eating other food. I stayed on it for 2 weeks, before gradually going back to our regular diet (which is much healthier than the Standard American Diet).
While we don't know, there is speculation that being on the Hallelujah Diet when I was 11 may have slowed down the progression of my kidney disease (one of the explanations why I would need a transplant at 21 versus my younger brother at 14 and my younger sister at 13 or 14).
Dr. Jim Carey Q&A June7, 2008 ~Rawfooder~
Question:
Should we include raw with minimally cooked foods?
Is cooking broccoli and carrots releasing more nutrients?
I think we make too much about the anti-oxidants issue, when the real issue here is about digestive enzymes. When we start cooking our food, the pancreas has to generate the enzymes to digest the food, and that’s a lot of work on the body.
When you’re eating raw foods, the enzyme required to digest the food is contained in the food. And not only that . . . . . it’s the properly tagged enzyme to digest that particular food. When your body has to produce the enzymes, it looks at what you put in there, and it sort of makes a guesstimate of say well, “I’ll tag the enzyme this way . . . and I think it will work”.
That’s why you notice . . . when you eat cooked corn . . . it comes out the other end as undigested. Cooked corn, especially kernel corn out of the can, or inside a casserole, or something when you eat like that, the corn all comes out and it doesn’t seem like anything happened . . . especially when that’s the only thing at the meal . . . because the body can’t properly tag the enzyme for cooked corn.
But when the body is eating raw corn . . . it has the enzyme in it . . . and that’s why it’s completely digested.
If there’s an evidenciary thing . . . I’m an scientist and engineer, and like science projects that I can try on myself. And that’s a good one . . . raw corn, especially when it comes into season here in Georgia.
So the real thing here is about the digestive enzymes being contained in the food and when we start cooking them we loose that advantage and go back to the condition . . . that the body has to do all of the work.
You here this all the time . . . “Oh, I only need 4-6 hours of rest, and I bounce out of bed and I work so much harder. . . I have so much more energy and feel so much better!”
When the body doesn’t have to produce enzymes that’s all found energy.
That’s saved energy. It’s a day of labor your body did not have to do. By some estimates, it’s eight hours of work your body did not have to do for raw fooders.
Oh, and one other note about carrots too. Carrots, if you look at the nutritional break down chart, there’s not much nutrient in the carrot itself. The carrot tops . . . that’s where the nutrients are. People think its strange when I go out to my garden with my shears and I take the carrot tops off and throw them in my smoothie . . . you’ll get more nutrition out of those carrot tops than you will the carrots themselves.
Persons whom have followed the vegan or vegetarian lifestyle:
Some of the most notable are Plato, Plutarch, Pythagoras, Socrates, Seneca, Tretullian, Chrysostom, Ovid, Moses, Zoroaster, Buddha, Jesus, Pliny, Porphyry, Hippocrates, Voltaire, Leonardo da Vinci, Sir Francis Bacon, Rosseau, Alexander Pope, Linnaeus, Shelley, Tolstoy, Sir Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Horace Mann, Ghandi, Bernard Shaw and Woody Harrelson, Demi Moore and Dennis Kucinich to name but a few.
Raw vegans regard good health and vitality as a normal way of life. Our goal is health, in a perfect balance of body, mind and spirit. We find health in the balance of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of man. We therefore select a diet which will accomplish this goal.
The modern "balanced meal" is a fallacy.
The strongest amimals in the world - elephant, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, camel, horse, bull - are all vegetable feeders.
A bull, in order to produice one pound of meat, consumes 100 pounds of grain.
A pig eats enough grain in two months to feed a man for a year.
Another study shows that 4% of the energy value of what an amimal consumes is recovered in beef. Raising amimals for food is a decidedly uneconomic use of agricultural resources.
I'm not a vegetarian, but I
I'm not a vegetarian, but I do agree with the latter statement on efficiency of raising livestock for food.
Most of the (false) arguments against biofuels claim that the US doesn't have enough arable land to meet its energy goals by growing crops for fuel.
They conveniently overlook the fact that the vast majority of agricultural land in the world, and particularly the US, is used for raising livestock--mostly cattle.

what about lions, tigers, cheetahs, bears, sharks, gorillas, eagles, whales, t-rex, lygers?
It's all raw . . . not cooked.
One of the longest living lions was a vegetarian. He lived 27 years, and wouldn't eat meat even when you placed it in front of him. Many zoo's feed their amimal vegetarian. Especially bears and silver back gorillas, and they have less disease.
Re-read the above post from Dr. Jim Carey about digestive enzymes.
Do you really want a neocon with a 55 gallon drum of oil under one arm, and a pharmaceutical bag in the other, to dictate your health and environment? But you do have control over your arm and hand . . . and what you put in your mouth. You may have already realized that the box your fast food came in may be healthier than the fast food itself.
I'd Stray From Raw Meat
You can do what you want though.
The problem with it lies in the blood.
If your an animal I guess you'd be comfortable with it.
I at least cook it til its done, "no blood".
M'mm yum yum yum.
Vegetarians are weak, abstaining from meats. I won't listen to any argument of the opposite cause "I know"! But, different folks have different intake requirements. A bite or two may be all that you need.

Further excellent info for the raw message, www.health101.org and www.fredericpatenaude.com are a must visit and absorb. These are good 100% raw advocates - Don Bennett, health 101, calls himself a DAS, Disease Avoidance Specialist - he helps people do the raw lifestyle correctly and successfully. Frederic Patenaude is right on also - his book Raw Secrets is invaluable for people wanting to make a success of starting a 100% raw lifestyle - it is available as a download from his sight . . . for a price - it was really valuable to people I know when they were at the beginning of this path.
In the little bit of time I have right now, these are my thoughts: We need to stay in reality. Realistically most people need to take these changes gradually. 1st - The RAVE DIET, www.ravediet.com is the realistic place to start. RAVE is a catchy acronym No Refined Foods, No Animal Products, No Vegetable Oils, and No Exceptions and do Exercise. The RAVE DIET is available in a book that comes with an DVD. That same DVD "Eating Plus" is available separately too. If people can't do this, they haven't a chance of succeeding on 100% raw. 2) If they can do RAVE in general, then make the total switch to whole grains (brown rice, millet, and oatmeal) and fruit for calories - eliminate the nuts and seeds almost completely. A number of people speak to this. People who go this far will do very well and may not want to go completely raw. It certainly is a much better place than where they started. 3) gradually eat RAVE raw which will move them to Doug Graham's 80/10/10, www.foodnsport.com, which is what I think works over the long haul. As Doug says, the principles are so simple and the details are many. This requires people to learn and keep learning.
As I see it, the trick to eating healthily 100% raw is to eat enough and a wide variety of plants. The high priorities are Enough Calories of Nutrient Dense foods. Nutrient Density, Nutrients/Calorie, is a Joel Furhman term, www.drfurhman.com . By nutrients, he means micronutrients: vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. Every affluent person has no trouble obtaining the macronutrients, protein-carbohydrate-fat. The problem we are having results from obtaining these macronutrients from nutrient poor foods and in the wrong proportions. AND the diet alone is not enough. Health depends heavily on the whole balance. The correct diet, however, helps us achieve in the other areas: Rest and Sleep, Exercise, Sunshine, and Emotional Peace.
For information on this go to
www.garynull.com. He has a PHD in Nutrition and is a research scientist.
Some foods require cooking in order for the body to be able to utilize the nutrients. Cooking beans is a must or you can't digest the nutrients. Broccoli must be lightly steamed to break down the fiber that holds the nourishing parts. Cauliflower is toxic when eaten raw.
Nuts are great raw they have high nutritious fat content and it is a healthy fat.
Sprouting is easy and takes little effort. Get some heirloom seeds for sprouting and soak them in a glass jar for a few seconds rinse off, cover the opening with a straining cloth and empty out the water. Do this once a day and in a few days they will sprout. Keep rinsing them once daily until they turn green and add them to your salad.
Juicing is the ultimate in getting concentrated nutrition. You get about 5 times the nourishment from a fruit or vegetable when you juice it.
Good luck!
Lots of interesting comments
As a nutritionist with a masters in Human Nutrition and a Ph.D. in Holistic, I can see both sides of the equation. I, with a colleague, wrote all of the course material that Hallelujah Acres uses for their correspondence courses. I have worked with clients over the years. I have also gotten somewhat familiar with the Ayurvedic way of thinking. I have seen Howard Lyman and know what he says. I have also read several books on the problems with milk. A book called "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell is essential reading for anyone wanting to understand better why animal products should be kept to a minimum. All of this helps to get a bigger picture.
Raw food is primarily food straight from the plant, with no processing. That is why it is so healthy. Fruits, vegetables and legumes are extremely nutrient-dense so they should be the primary foods in your diet. But, they don't necessarily have to be eaten raw all of the time. In the winter your body (per the Ayurvedic philosophy) does better on lightly cooked soups and stews. I have found, personally, this to be true. I crave salads like crazy when the weather warms up but crave my veggies in soups and stews with cool weather.
Grains are difficult to eat raw and actually very bad for you raw. The way to eat grains and beans raw is to sprout them. This can be very labor intensive, along with anything that you do when you decide to eat a raw diet.
A raw diet is a therapeutic diet. I have used it for clients for this. However, 100% raw is not something I recommend because I have seen too many people get very sick on this. We are all biochemically unique and require different ratios of nutrients. One person may do extremely well on this diet while someone else will waste away. Remember you, as an individual, are unique. But, eating things as close to nature as possible is best.
Have a great day!

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5,6
Jesus said: "ye are Gods."
and he also said "all of the things that I have done ye can do" so lean on your own understanding. In other words use your god given brain and think.
Like Jesus said: "Be ye perfect even as your father in heaven is perfect".
What does this have to do with the topic?
I am not sure what you are getting at. My signature line has a quote from the Proverbs and it does not contradict what Jesus said, how could it? Jesus said that we could do anything through Him and nothing without Him. So what exactly does your comment mean?

I can say
I've been a vegan for 15 years and it is not expensive to eat raw foods. I have more energy than anyone in my family & the optometrist has lowered the prescription of my contacts twice (eyes keep getting better -- or brain more clearer, not sure which)
It's basically anything you can grow in the ground and eat unprocessed/uncooked. If you don't want to end up in the hospital, don't mess with eating raw meat or eggs -- you can get Trichinellosis (worms), E. coli food poisoning or Salmonella food poisoning.
There's many books about it but read up on it first. "Thank God for Raw" by Julie Wandling is a good one.
Good luck.
Might want to read also
China Study.
This book has gotten my son completely off meat.
Howard Lyman was interviewed on Coasttocoastam.com May 18'08
Howard Lyman was interviewed on Coast To Coast radio yesterday. I have personally met, had a book signed and completely admire this man. He is 100% committed and travels the country literally over 300 days a year with the plain truth from the cattle rancher who won't eat meat.

Howard was also Congressman a congressman for 5 years and found only one other vegan, and he is Kuchinick.
yes
I heard him also and checked his site.
Read books by Herbert Shelton, DSc,PhD
He died in, I believe 1987. His nutritional / hygienic philosophic approach to diet included not just raw fruits and vegetables but fasting (in some cases prolonged, i.e.3-4 weeks or more) as well. He was the inspiration for T.C. Fry of the Life Science Institute. T.C. Fry taught / educated Harvey and Marilyn Diamond, the authors of the diet book "Fit For Life", a number one best seller back in 1985.
If it has a label
I recently read two guidelines that are easy to remember:
1. if it has a label, don't eat it
2. Eat stuff that can rot, but before it does

Raw food
A friend has been on raw food for about a year. It's pure vegan, and it's expensive as hell. He has pricey kitchen gadgets, and drives far for supplies.
After a doctor wanted him to go on acid reflux drugs for the rest of his life, he found raw food. He immediately dropped 20 pounds, feels great, and no longer need medication of any kind.
Many pro athletes are starting to use this diet, to maintain athletic performance, especially in the later years of their careers.
It takes money, and and a lot of discipline to do it, as eating out anywhere is exclusively salads, without any animal products.
The raw chocolate is a treat though. Imagine, a chocolate treat you can eat as much as you want.
Maybe getting set up is expensive
But it is cheaper to buy all fruits and vegetables than any other way of eating. The actual food bill should go down, even eating organic.
Did you happen to catch the www.madcowboy.com Howard Lyman on Coast to Coast last night??? Made me sooooooooooooo mad. The host was George Napp?? not Noorey, and he asked if any presidential candidate understood the problems of meat production in this country and Howard said only Kucinich who is not running any more. I tried to call in, too late. So I emailed Coast to Coast and hoped there was a caller who would say something, but no dice. Then I emailed Howard Lyman. His email is hlyman@aol.com. Why don't you drop him a line and a video or article and tell him you heard he does not know about Ron Paul. :)
Doctor bills go down too and you feel better, so that makes it cost effective.
Some things are more nutritrious cooked
like tomatoes, which release more lycopene when cooked and broccoli which releases more antioxidants when cooked (though the effect is reversed if broccoli is overcooked). Meats and fish cause cancer by produce hetrocyclic amines and AGE's when cooked at high temperature in a manner that toasts or burns them or causes sugar and protein to bind (glycation). So to prevent that, you can boil, steam, or slow cook at very low temperature.
Watch out though, government sprays chemtrails on vegetables which allow mind control when consumed. (Just had to add that in to keep it on topic).
It's all about the digestive enzymes . . .
Cooking foods above 118 degrees Fahrenheit destroys digestive enzymes. When this happens, the pancreas, salivary glands, stomach and intestines must all come to the rescue and furnish digestive enzymes….to break down all these substances. To do this repeatedly, the body must rob, so to speak, enzymes from the other glands, muscles, nerves and the blood to help in its demanding digestive process.
Eventually the glands – and this includes the pancreas – develop deficiencies of enzymes because they have been forced to work harder due to the low level of enzymes found in cooked food ….Your chances therefore of not putting a burden on your pancreas are better if you eat as much raw food as possible.
William H. Philpott, MS – victory Over Diabetes
And yes, raw food lifestyle includes everything raw. Fruits, vegetables, nuts and meats. At fourteen years old, my uncle gave me a book The Grape Cure by Dr. Johanna Brandt. The results of eating grapes only for 2 weeks was amazing. That week change my life forever. Change the way I perceived truths. It was my “awakening”.
Can't we figure out these chemtrails and sue
What is holding us up here?
Barley Juice................
I've been taking this for 4 1/2 years and have not been sick, not even a common cold...Barley grass juice is a high alkaline level base product,so it will balance out your PH. in your body if it's low.
Also it's has Antioxidants which inhibit the chemical process called free radical formation, which damages cells....Our unnatural way of life and man-made pollution cause disturbance to the human body, for example, the large scale production of "free radicals."...These chaotically-reacting molecules contribte to many diseases (from cancer to heart attacks) and are thought to be responsible for many premature aging processes.
Free radicals oxidize our cells so that they practically rust, making normal metabolism impossible...If the destructive ravages of the free radicals are not stopped, they can weaken the whole body untill illness and premature death results.
The juice from young barley leaves contains a multitude of vitamins and minerals:30 times as much vitamin B-1 as in milk, 6.5 times as much carotene as in spinach, 11 times the calcium in cow's milk, nearly 5 times the iron in spinach, nearly 7 times the vitaminC in oranges, and 80 micrograms of vitamin B-12 per 100 grams of dried barley plant juice...Barley juice contains 15 times as much protein as an equivalant amount of milk, and when compared to wheat, barley juice contains 5 times as much protein,25 times as much calcium,4 times the vitamin B-1, -100 times the vitamin C, 20 times the vitamin E and 26 times as much potassium as in wheat, (Let's live , 9/82 and New York Speech,pg.7)

I eat raw squash...
What's wrong with it?
Not something to jump into
Be really careful about this. Raw food is better for you, in that you get proteins unadulterated by heat...but there are some scary ramifications.
Basically...if you've grown up eating cooked foods, you have a limited ability to consume bacteria. People grown up on raw food have natural immunities to foodborne bacteria.
Case in point...Mexicans drink the water every day...I drank the water there once...without being really gross...it was a long flight home.
Better to educate yourself as to how to ease into raw food...start with active culture yogurt, raw milk (if it's even legal to buy where you live) and then you can work your way to meats.
Careful of raw food that is home-canned...please. Chlorstridium Botulinum (botulism) will kill you.
Some People Are Such A Know It Alls...
kind of like a friend of mine that was a self proclaimed "expert" in the health food industry. I was going to do my first intestinal cleanse/fast a number of years ago and the duration was 30 days. My friend got all upset and warned that it was too radical for a first approach and warned that I could have a "healing crisis" and could die.I chuckled at him and brought up some valid points that squashed his argument and moved forward.
Around the 30th day I had lost a little over 20lbs (which was part of my goal) I felt so good I decided I would push it 15 more days.At the end I never in my life felt better.I had so much stamina and energy it was amazing. I continue to try to eat as much raw food as I can.Every morning the first thing that goes in my stomach is a smoothie made of 100% organic ingredients: blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cherries, one or two bananas, one raw egg, maybe a little raw honey in either a fresh squeezed apple or orange juice.I also add 20 grams of "Natura" Beyond Whey Non-Denatured Whey Protein.(very pricey but worth it).
There is absolutely nothing to fear from raw food and you want to eat as much as possible but it should be organic if theres any way possible. If you are worried about bacteria or germs on your food there are organic food washes(soap) in the health food stores.I have not washed any of my produce for years except carrots and eat it raw and never had any problems and that whole spinach debacle was from a leaking or broken sewage pipe that ran into the field(extremely rare). The conventional foods are much "weaker". Sure they will keep you alive but they don't have the same vitality and if you go a step further and find wild food (usually fruits) they are really strong. If you have any neighbors with heritage trees try to trade or barter or help them pick for some. All the best fruit I've ever had was from trees that were at least 50yrs old and some were probably close to a 100. The best meat you can probably eat is Salmon.Red meat is ok if it's organic, but in moderation. Cook it very slow with no charring and forget BBQing.Do not drink soft drinks period.
Also make sure you get that barley juice or wheatgrass juice, cost pennies to grow is harvestable in 12 days and is the closest thing to blood that there is, it's the best blood purifier and one of the only sources of B-17 You have to buy a wheatgrass juicer.
You also want to keep your body slightly alkaline and heres a link to a food chart that tells what they are: http://www.essense-of-lif...
Your goal is 70% alkaline forming foods and 30% acid forming foods.
Paper Ballots,Hand Counted At The Precinct Or Bust
Some are too annoying to ignore
First, yes, I keep claiming to want to ignore you...but you call me a know it all and then go into a self indulgent diatribe which doesn't refute what I was saying...
We are talking about raw foods...and you respond with telling everyone how to cook meat? What does the word RAW mean to you? There are a ton of things to worry about switching to raw meat...salmonella poisioning, bad e coli strains, etc.
Sure, eating raw vegetables has very low risk if you wash them first...but a first grader could have brought that to the table...thanks Captain Obvious.
You have all these magical ways to feel healthier...but have you ever researched something called the placebo effect?
Case in point: I live what you may consider a unhealthy lifestyle. I eat lots of meat, plenty of fast food, don't care about organic or non GMO food. I smoke, barely excercise, and drink lots of coffee, drink lots of Pepsi. On top of this, I get maybe 4-5 hours of sleep per day. Guess what, i'm very healthy. I rarely get sick, have enough energy for 10 people, and my last blood test was immaculate.
I had a friend who believed in this whole organic, nasty green milkshake, healthy diet...I say I "had" a friend because she died of colon cancer at 23 years of age.
I was simply cautioning everyone to make sure they understand the ramifications of changing to a 100% raw diet, but you wanted to talk about yourself...so you call me a know-it-all (with bad grammar). Enjoy the botulism i'm wishing upon you.
Raw = Live...
The idea of starting your raw food "diet" with the milk of a cow, and then working your way to meats doesn't sit well with me... No meat... No dairy... Live foods... Pure water and air... It's very simple...
So what's wrong with meat
So what's wrong with meat and dairy? Not that I would want to be eating much raw meat anytime soon! Raw milk and unpasteurized cheese are very healthy foods, as is fish. While I believe that most Americans eat too much meat, I don't think it is bad in limited amounts, as even small amonts in an otherwise vegetarian meal will greatly enhance overall protein utilization.
To each...
His own, I suppose... I don't like to preach or push what is true to me on others... So I guess I would agree to disagree with you akak... I was raised with very limited meat intake (including some fish), but my mother believed in the benefits of yogurts and kiefer... However as an adult I've made adjustments to my diet according to what I feel is right and true... My food intake has consisted of only raw, unprocessed foods for almost eight years now... I also fast for 2 weeks at the beginning of each season... I follow no strict regimine and tend to do what my body "tells me"... I've never ingested pharmaceuticals or man-made recreational drugs... I don't subscribe to common perspectives on disease and sickness, and didn't have any specific conditions to cure, but I will say that the improvements in my overall health, vitality, strength and energy over the last 8 years have been huge... I don't see myself going back to animal products anytime soon. It's just not right for me... I could go on and on about the benefits of my diet, as I'm sure someone who feels strongly about the benefits of dairy and animal proteins could about theirs... But ultimately, we can only do what we think is best for ourselves, no?

Deadprez, are you saying
Deadprez, are you saying that you have eliminated yogurt and kefir from your diet as well? Wouldn't you consider those "live" foods as well, as long as you consume only those with active live cultures?
This is just anecdotal "evidence", of course, but for many years, since childhood, I had great problems with digestive ailments, many of which cleared up after I routinely began drinking raw milk and eating home-made yougurt.
Yes And Yes...
No yogurt and kefir for me... Although I was defining the word differently, I do consider them live foods, given the presence of active live cultures... And my mother (62 years old) still swears by them.
As for your raw milk and yogurt... I agree... Evidence that your eating habits are working, for you... Good news, to be sure...
To share an anecdote of my own... I have a 22 month old son who has never eaten meat, but for the first year we did incorporate some yogurt and limited dairy in his diet. Although there were certainly no horrible side-effects, he did have the occasional congestion, or cold, but it's hard to say whether it was related to diet, teething, or both... After his first birthday we cut out all the dairy from his diet and his congestion cleared up almost immediately... He's been vegan ever since and he is an extremely healthy and vibrant toddler... His diet consists of breast milk, veggies (including seaweed), fruit, soaked (not cooked) grains, slow-simmered beans and a small amount of tofu...
Anyway... I tend to subscribe to the notion that you'll find what you look for, and in this "information age" it's pretty easy to find a convincing argument for both sides of any debate... So I guess that makes us all right... Cool...
