Amazing: Idol Gives Back Raises 3 Bllion Dollars!
Just to be clear: I made this up...
Imagine if American Idol came out and announced that for our convenience they coordinated with the government simply take $10 from each of the 300 million Americans' rebate check for their "Idol Gives Back" episode. Therefore, was no need to make individual donations. And then of course they would thank the American people for their generosity.
Wouldn't seem very special. Wouldn't seem generous. Wouldn't seem right. And yet, this is exactly what the government does for so many programs and policies that are much less worthy than Idol Gives Back.
I think this is an important analogy that could help some people understand the problem of government getting involved in things like subsidies, entitlements, foreign aid, etc.

Inlfation is alive and well
I think it's a bad sign when something like American Idol can be a part of 'giving' a gargantuan amount of money like 3 billion dollars. My God, is our money really worth so little? Maybe in a few years we'll be hearing about AI giving away 100 trillion dollars. Sheesh.
okay ?
And who's been giving the task of spending that money to help people or did they just pocket it ?
From the NY Times (on Drudge)
But even as “American Idol” and Fox Broadcasting prepare for their second annual star-studded “Idol Gives Back” appeal on Wednesday, officials at the charity have declined to release a formal accounting of last year’s effort.
Last year’s money was roughly evenly distributed between charities working in Africa and those working in the United States, she said, but this year more of the money will go to domestic charities.
In the United States four charities received pledges of $7.5 million each from last year’s effort: America’s Second Harvest, a hunger-relief organization; Save the Children, which provides educational resources for poor children; the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, an educational and social organization; and the Children’s Health Fund. Another $37,500 was distributed to smaller charities in the United States, officials said.
Five organizations received pledges of $6 million each for work in Africa: the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria; the United States Fund for Unicef; Nothing but Nets and Malaria No More, which work on malaria prevention; and Save the Children.
Another $1 million went to the Kibera Initiative, which helps children in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya, and $340,000 went to smaller African charities. The $7 million in matching and direct corporate contributions went to four of the nine charities.
Four of the charities that received money last year have been designated for contributions again this year: the Global Fund, Malaria No More, the Children’s Health Fund and the domestic programs of Save the Children.
In addition two new organizations join the beneficiaries: the Children’s Defense Fund, which helps children in poverty; and Make It Right, a campaign to help New Orleans recover from the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
sentinl - you should
read my post - it answers your very important question and concern.
These feel-good organizations take our money and use it against us! A You Tube former communist said the American Red Cross and American Cancer Society do the same thing!
I've said years ago that they won't find a "cure" for Cancer because it is BIG business. Tell me I'm wrong now!!!!
Their vaccines CAUSE Cancer, diabetes and asthma in children, and who else knows what - oh yes, AUTISM!!!!! Mandate vaccines, make children ill, go to doctor who writes a script...get the picture? Drug companies are evil for what they've done to people.
And, Fluoride in the water! Takes 20 points of each person' s IQ and makes them docile; is given to prisoners to keep them quiet; Nazis gave them to their prisoners (they could have left the gates unlocked and none would have left) - is put in anti-depressant drugs too. We are not safe in our own homes from this intentional drugging!
and i gaurantee you that 3
and i gaurantee you that 3 billion won't make spits worth of difference to help anyone!
as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD
www.ONE.org - Tyrannical recipient of all those donations!!!!
was the benefactor of Idol Gives Back. Most people have no idea how sinister this site is, and you can imagine when Rupert Murdock is involved. Here is what I friend told me when I inquired about ONE:
********************
"It's an interesting exercise looking at things like this because it's an opportunity to apply principles to real-life situations. In short, it's another "tyranny with a friendly face" organization. There are so many!
"Though, one thing that I'm curious about but not willing to spend the time researching right now, is whether ONE is a creation of the Global Fund. It's an organization whose primary purpose is to channel dollars to the Global Fund, but it's not immediately obvious how closely tied they are. The Global Fund is closely tied to the United Nations, and states on its web site (in bold) that it's purely a "financial instrument" that does not DO anything except pass money around.
OneVote08 is explicitly a political and fund-raising arm of ONE.
ONE states on its web site that its objectives are:
1) Taking money by force from people without political pull and giving to the rich who have "good intentions" and who are obviously smarter.
This is the one constant theme that runs through everything, and is the core of socialism/fascism/communism: the core assumption that if an individual can do good from his heart, how much better a large, oppressive government can do it.
2) Influencing presidential elections and legislation to maximize (1).
3) Promoting fiscal irresponsibility of corrupt governments by not holding them accountable for their actions.
4) Increasing the scope and power of governmental and non-governmental bureaucracy.
5) Increasing fascist regulation of business.
6) "Fighting corruption" — a curious thing which they don't elaborate on but can make a stab at what it means.
7) They're not satisfied with the billions each year and are asking taxpayer to cough up $40 BILLION dollars this year only — for one budget item only. (That's about $130 per person.)
8) Undermine self-reliance and initiative.
9) Promote statism through democracy. Statists LOVE democracy! It's a horrible system of government.
Now, they don't use those words, but run their words through the 13 Principles and there you are. A good number of their partner organizations are well-known for corruption, mishandling of money, and promoting socialism.
Now, that there are many earnest, good-natured people working for them who would pale at that list and deny that they are for any of that — but a person with good intentions working within a destructive system cannot change the ill outcome. One cannot avoid reaping what one sows.
Jesus told people (as individuals) to do good, but I'm still looking for the part where He said render unto Caesar because you're a shmuck and Caesar can do better. "
Anyhow, it's interesting.
Taxation is theft that has become legalized...
by a group that has a coercive monopoly on setting the law code.
Silly. And yes, I liked your above example!
I've read that the federal
I've read that the federal income tax isn't even legal.
Federal income tax was ruled unconstitutional I believe a few times in the late 1800's with the last time the SCOTUS ruling it unconstitutional sometime around 1881.
The 16th amendment supposedly authorizes income taxes, but there are many questions as to how it was ratified. I've read that congress voted to pass the amendment but the states rejected it - then the fed put the amendment into the constitution anyhow, without proper state ratification of the amendment as mandated by the constitution.
There are ex IRS agents who have been speaking out against the federal income tax after they themselves were unable to find any applicable laws. (some videos of this are on youtube)
Several people who were prosecuted for not filing were even found not guilty. In at least one case the not guilty verdict was due to the prosecution either refusing or being unable to show the specific law requiring US citizens to pay income taxes. The jury even requested the specific law from the judge who replied with something to the effect of them having everything they need. Verdict not guilty.
Once in a while there are demonstrations/protests in front of IRS buildings (at least that's what I think those buildings are) where the people hold signs stating "show us the law."
Maybe one day our nation will be able to make things right...
