OK, my two graduate degrees in philosophy are beckoning me to chime in here and analyze the debate.

Probably the dominant theme here is the distinction between entrepreneurial, for-profit, efforts and ideologically motivated efforts powered by donations (which is not to say that elements of each basic strategy might not be incorporated by efforts truly focused on the other).

As much as I admire Trevor's ingenuity and initiative with the blimp project, and his modesty and movie-star good looks portrayed in media interviews, I have a hard time accepting an initiative like his that diverts very substantial resources to him, personally, as compared to the volunteer efforts that have propelled the Ron Paul Revolution. I thoroughly support the exercise of the market in all things, but I warn that the _financial_ market isn't the most effective approach to social and political problems. For there is also a market in ideas, and a market also in philosophical and emotional commitment.

Right now, my judgment is that the latter three markets are the ones to trust and exploit in the drive for liberty. I don't discount the contributions to be made by commercial efforts, but I must point out that those are driven by two possibly competing (and even conflicting) motivations: the goal and the money to be made in addressing it.

As a rule of thumb, I think it's more reliable to trust in a project motivated by ideological purity and funded on a shoestring than on one motivated by personal gain and funded by promises to support the ideological goal.

Dr. Steve has been spot on in his analysis of the delegate process, and we've all been saddened by his announcement that he must scale back his activity here in order to salvage his personal financial situation (vastly depleted by his efforts on all our behalves). I have seen absolutely nothing in his posts to indicate that he is looking to accomplish anything other than the Paulian goal of Constitutional government and individual liberty. That contrasts with Trevor's apparent two aims: support the Paul agenda, and make a bundle.

Nothing about this analysis proves that Trevor is more interested in his personal gain than in the libertarian goals of the Ron Paul Revolution. I actually suspect that he began as a focused activist and only later became seduced by the entrepreneurial possibilities. But, in the climate of grassroots sacrifice and fervor for the Revolution, his approach does seem a bit mercenary. There's nothing wrong with that ... but those of us focused on supporting the Revolution as best we can might stop and consider that, while freedom can be advanced by way of self-centered enterprise, a principle-centered enterprise is most likely to have the laser-like focus that will best serve us.

Which would basically cost you nothing and grow from there? If you're podcast is good people will support it, if not, they won't.

What is up with all the anti-capitalist here? There is nothing wrong with providing a service and making a profit. Do you people think money will just magically appear to pay for these things? Like it or not these things cost money and peoples time is worth money also.

If they are providing a service that people need and or enjoy there is nothing wrong with them getting paid for it so they can devote more time to it to make it the best they can.

SGP I applaud your willingness to sacrifice however if you want to make this the best then folks need to get paid. Those that think all these services should be supplied for free should move to a communist or socialist country. Build it and let the market decide!

to combat the anti-constitution, pro-socialist, pro-eltist, pro-big government media that plagues our nation of liberty and justice for all.

I, of course, would not support this effort. We don't need any more stinkin' radio stations preaching to the choir, especially one headed up by 'Dr.' Steve Parent. There are already a few stations devoted to Dr. Paul and the message of the Constitution. And it's getting really annoying reading comments that continue to disparage Trevor Lyman and his media startup idea. I am loyal to the cause and to Dr. Paul, but not to Steve Parent.

I will help. The main reason I will help is because of the idea of breaking down any given MSM news, to its route meaning, cause, or what it may or may not entitle. For anyone who may not agree with this idea, what is the problem of learning more information? I mean I choose what to believe. It's not like Steve is begging or demanding from us. He just needs to know what he's working with. Besides I personaly feel loyal to him for his tremendous work that made me learn so much. (Steve just do it)

In addition to putting your radio program on whatever site you have planned, you might consider making it also available via iTunes and also on Live365.com, in order to reach a yet wider audience.

Ive already posted below but it sounds like this is a much more worthwhile endeavor than some crap media marketing company startup thats trying to pull in millions in venture capital to get going.

If youve already got the pieces in place, organizing to strengthen the cause is only the next logical evolution to the process.

However i believe that growth also sort of requires success, and donations while a good contributing factor to start, probably should not be the soul means to fund an operation like this. if there were startup costs involved that required donations and such, that i could understand, but it would be much more reassuring to your audience to know that you have other ways to help finance the operation (and by that i dont mean out of your own pocket expenses). Whether that means advertisement money, subscription fees to perhaps access more features, merchandising, etc, thats all up to those of you hoping to grow and organize and who are in charge of making it all happen. i think that providing such a service and making money enough to fund your own operations is a very healthy, normal goal to achieve. Dr. Paul would applaud you if you could pull in enough money through means other than donations in order to be able to dedicate more of your time towards that or perhaps specifically towards that. Your website is most likely going to be just as integral to this being successful as your broadcast is. id say the internet is a powerful enough tool to make it all happen, if you need help coming up with creative solutions then id be more than willing to help where i can.

anyhow, i hope that this takes off regardless. it would be awesome to have a legitimate alex jones alternative out there to listen to.

Steve, I thank you for your tireless energies educating "We the People" in your quest to spread liberty. There is another group of patriots, who after many years of educating, have come to this same conclusion. The only way to reclaim our liberty and effect real change is through education of the masses. Education spread on unbiased, unregulated radio transmits via am/fm radio. The LWRN already has constitutional/freedom heavy hitters on board for speaking, experience in the radio programming and broadcast, in fact, they even have a radio broadcasting center set up. This network is waiting on support from patriots, with minimal membership fees, who want to spread the word of freedom. Maybe, we can consolidate our efforts to more rapidly and efficiently spread the message of freedom through the airwaves.
Check out the site libertyworksradionetwork.com and give them imput or support the station to facilitate broadcasting.

i particularly like the idea of having a short news section every hour where you report the REAL news.
and no, subscriptions is not the way to go. it wont expand. you'll have a set number of listeners and that would be it.
i'd definitely donate probably set up a monthly donation thing with paypal.
it would be great, i think the truth would then start to spread; if its well done with quality music (may i suggest a little eric clapton?).

Don't ask for donations, demand subscriptions. I'd pay $10.00 a month for the information RPRRadio and We the People gives out, but right now its free and sometimes the station gets all out of whack so you can't hear it.

If you put up a dedicated site where individuals can only access your information-for example if only subscribers can call in then it would raise your money. If that's too restrictive, then just let only subscribers call in during certain times, like when an important guest is online. Or don't make the mp3's of past shows available unless you are a subscriber. And also start selliing low power fm transmitters, or get on short wave radio so those without a computer can find you.

Also, I think RPRradio definately needs to combine forces with Political Allore.com because they are also in the business of educating the public on the important information and they are trying to raise money. RPRRadio also needs to document the daily paul. So much great information gets on here and is lost that people listening might not have the time to find it on daily paul.

Finally, the Ron Paul presidential campaign still has 6 million left in their coffers, what are they going to do with that money?

You are right, we don't have to start from sratch, we don't need a 5 million dollars project (If you can fundraise 5M, give it to RP, he bests know what to do with it!) which will distract us again (Remember the Blimp?), the plattforms are ready, the people are out there, the initiatives are popping up faster than you can say 5Millions and the Blimp was a catastrophe, we got distracted once, concentrated our efforts on the wrong thing instead of more door to door canvassing in NH and Iowa and we lost a lot of money achieving nothing but laugher from the AH!

And by the way, The money Bomb wasn't Trevor's idea for your information, but he was the first to create a site, he deserves credit for that for sure!
We were brainstorming in DP, meetups, ronpaulforums, ... about how to make a huge donation day, what to name it....

Remember, the credit for the success of the RP revolution is to ALL the RP grassroots!

the only worry i would have is that the new conglomerate would take on a persona similar to that of the alex jones crew. Im not interested in people using scare tactics on me to inform me that other people are using scare tactics on me. i know its an effective tool and all but it doesnt ever really encourage anyone to dig beneath the topsoil for themselves to become truly informed.

Having said that, having a radio haven to listen to that was informative on current events and breaking them down and using a little history to educate people with similarities of current evens with previous events would prove a refreshing change of pace over just about anything else i listen to for news (then again i did stop listening for news on radio and tv since last year).

if you guys can get a monthly operating budget put together which would define a required monthly total that needs to be achieved to keep you guys operational, make a web widget to keep track of that (sort of like RP's donation graph from his campaign) i think that would do loads to help get you all the money youd need from users to keep on going.

id certainly be willing to donate money to help make such a program operational. I suppose the real question is, how much would it all cost though?
