My understanding of the food situation is that food could get very scarce over the next year and a few months. I expect widespread crop failures/ low production WORLDWIDE this summer. buy storeable food when you see it over the next few months- prices are going to be increasing rapidly.
This year is the sabbatical rest year:
in 2001 crops were very poor
in 1994 crops were very poor
in 1987 drought year- prices extremely high, poor crops
in 2008 early crops (Australian Wheat, Vermont maple Sugar) very low production, food shortages.
But it also bugs the crap out of me that there are better ethonal producing crops like sugar beets we could use and we aren't doing it. Oh, and there is also that new alge technology that I read about that sounds increadible that we should really get moving on.
And finally, don't we still subsidize for that and actually pay some farmers to not produce anything on land they own? Doesn't that drive up prices as well?
YEP YOUR RIGHT..... government screws it up but blames it on other things.. its inflation caused by 14 billion dollar a month war and welfare!
Government is to blame period! they create crisis to control the population.. as soon as you see people here rioting bevcause of food guess what.. we have martial law!
please understand this.... the rising price of food has nothing to do with using food stocks to make fuel... it is the governments creating inflation by devaluing their currancies, and spending on welfare...and war.. when ever people say that food prices are a result of food being diverted to fuel is full of it.. the blame belongs to the government--- ours specifically who has inflated our money suppply!
I am not sure that you can be so dogmatic. I think what we are seeing today is the combination of factors. Certainly inflation is a major drive in the United States' food prices, but the fact that a lot of corn is being diverted to make ethanol also contributes to food prices. It has caused most farmers in my area of Michigan to switch to corn to cash in on the bonanza. Corn is used in nearly every sector of the economy, so if the price of corn rises, so do the other prices as well.
In both cases, it is government that is causing the problem: first by inflating the dollar and second by promoting corn ethanol which has damaging economic and environmental effects. It is the combination of these effects that are creating a "perfect storm" in the global economy that could very soon unravel our entire economic system and may very well cause widespread political upheaval.
I think your wrong there... there are milions of acres of farm land sitting.. if the free market were left alone, it would correct itself.. now with wheat so high.. corn farmers last year are switching to wheat! all caused by the inflated currencies and government controlls around the world! Government is to blame.. pure and simple!
I believe you are absolutely correct about the combination of factors that will affect our global economy. Storm clouds are on the horizon. For another perspective on ethanol: http://www.startribune.co...
inflation, the ethanolmess, as well as drought in Australia (the second largest grain producer) and increased demand from Africa, where there has been population explosion in famine prone areas, are all factors.
If you watch the Haiti politicians, they are saying that they are not aware of the real cause of food prices soaring so high.. it isn't trult pegged on supply and demand anymore, although supply is a problem this year. What they are not taking into account is worldwide inflation. The dollar index that everyone quotes is NOT the sole indicator of purchase power. The dollar is being shown against a basket of 16 currencies that are also inflating...lol.
What a sick world. - Except it isn't. It is greedy industrialists and already rich investors. How can anyone stand by and witness this happening? That's sick.
'I always think of all you canvassors and precinct leaders and delegates at the front line and caucuses.
Good luck out there &Thank you. You're a gift.
I am curious,
is the corn that they are producing for the ethanol of the GMO type? and does that have any effect on the air?
Food shortage? just starting.

We can all say what needs to be done, but who here led by example today?

I agree that this is inflation driven
