I think they miss thier point!

The campaign is trying to capture the undecided older voters by showing real people stating that not everything Ron says can be agreed with yet he is a genuine person that average people will vote for and not some crazy "911 truther" fringe candidate, which the MSM has tried to paint him. I applaud their idea, but I lambaste their results. I've seen much better ads at 3am then this piece of work. If they were to take the advice of the millions of Paulities and create a commercial to HAVE IT SCREENED beforehand to ensure the product is worthy of airing then we would be in a greater position to win! With the technology today, you could have made several different commercials for near pennies to the dollar if you would ask for help from all to volunteers out here. Here’s an Ideal, Have a contest to create a 30second Commercial, Winner gets a day with paul on the ground and say $50,000 for the rights……Holly cow Batbrains, think of all the possibilities. Why are they not thinking? WHY? Do they not want to win? This say so IMHO!

I will be voting for Ron Paul, even if he is not nominated

I will be voting for Ron Paul, even if he is not nominated

No one buys

No one buys into Ron Paul on first impression. The intent is to get name recognition and get the viewer to dig in a bit and do some homework.

What was your first impression of RP?

I just watched it for the 4th time....

and it's not getting any better. The first time I watched it all I could think of was that line about not agreeing with Ron Paul. The second time I watched it I thought about how phony the acting was. The third time I watched it I noticed the bad editing, and now the fourth time I realize how bad the music is. Oh, and all four times I watched it, I couldn't believe they could make Dr. Paul look so bad with the blue screen, the orange blotchy make-up, and the negative look on his face. He looks like he has a headache. By the way, that color of blue and that color of orange don't look good together.

The blue screen is kind of a

Ah, yes the music. Didn't even think about that before...

The blue screen is kind of a technical aid for putting a background image on, I suppose. You'll see the white house there. I hope.

Will Jay Leno play this ad when Ron Paul visits? "Here's your first TV-ad, this is what your surprising donation success is worth!" I hope not.

new ad

why not simplify things,& just use various clips from "a new hope" video for ads? it doesn't get any better than this video for introdroducing the common folk to Dr. Paul. there's nothing worse than regular folks who can't act,.trying to act..cheesy is right..Ahhhhh..but its not the end of the world either..

randy n.

It's obvious Ron Paul doesn't even like the ad...

...HE'S NOT SMILING!!!
That, to me, is actually the most disturbing thing about this ad. If my first impression of Ron Paul was of some scowling old guy and then that was followed up by some cheesy dialog which sounds like it's from the seventies, I'd be turned off.

Instead, how about seeing some numbers?? As in, numbers of people flocking to see Ron Paul, Ron smiling and greeting white and black babies, kids, adults of all stripes? Or, the numbers of straw polls he's won? This ad isn't just bad...it's DANGEROUS TO THE CAMPAIGN AND A GIFT TO RON'S COMPETITION!!!

This ad is disturbing to me on a number of levels and I think the negative reviews need to be taken very seriously. Maybe the publicity that would be generated by quickly pulling the ad could be unintended GAIN!

Does this ad look like Ron Paul is serious about wanting to become president? NO!!!!!! The Ron Paul campaign needs to appreciate the psychological nature of the TV ads. Remember, Nixon lost a close election because he looked bad on TV.

My strong advice: Pull the ad, pay supporters to hit and paper the streets or come up with some other original form of reaching the masses. TV ads are expensive and if done wrong, they can amount to the Howard Dean scream for Ron Paul's campaign. TAKE THIS DAMN SERIOUSLY, JESSE BENTON!!!

Maybe the Ron Paul supporters need to write a letter of marque and reprisal against this ad? IF THE RON PAUL CAMPAIGN CAN'T RESPOND TO THE VOICE OF ITS SUPPORTERS NOW, HOW DOES RON PAUL EXPECT TO BE AN EFFECTIVE PRESIDENT??? C'Mon, folks! We're the Ron Paul Revolution! Revolt against this very dangerous commercial!!!

Ron Paul is not an infallible God...

of course we can give feedback to the Paul campaign....

Even Jesus had twelve disciples to give him feedback....

It IS fair to be concerned that 1/5 of the campaigns treasury will be spent on terrible ads like this one....it is no small issue...

Ron Paul himself stated in a fundraiser I attended that he NEVER HEARD of MEETUP before a couple of months ago (despite the fact that it has been a big force since Dean in '03). It's OK for us to help let Dr. Paul know more about the beauty and cost effectiveness of the "new media."
The Internet "base" is - after all - 80% of the campaign fundraising.

Questioning decisions does not show lack of "patriotism" to the cause...and spending more on ads like this one just because "we've already spent so much money" on production is a hollow argument.

In fact, those two arguments are right out of Bush's press releases about staying in Iraq.

It's OK for even geniuses to make a mistake - as long as they realize quickly they screwed up and make a change. Even Steve Jobs totally blew it with the G4 Cube several years ago and NOBODY remembers that disaster now.

We raised 400K in 3 days for radio ads. Since this first video broke I think we've raised maybe 10-15K. The "free market" had made its judgement.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

I am 1000% behind the campaign and Nov 5th IS going to be HUGE.

The "free market" of supporter videos is doing a much better job.

We are going to win New Hampshire!

Right on!

Just wish that they'd recognize the "free market".

hate to be negative but...come on

I would NEVER show this to someone that I was trying to "introduce" to RP for the first time. Hell, I've watched every RP vid around and love the man to death and I can barely stand to watch this thing. If this was the first RP video I ever saw I can promise you it'd be the last. I'd have no reason to want to find out any more about him. It's one of the dumbest commercials I've ever seen. He's ORANGE for christsake! (and yes, I'm new here but I'm an active memeber of atlanta meetup 294. I joined here this morning to voice concern about this add. I'm not some Romney spy!)

Reaction to first Ron Paul TV

Get a grip, folks.
We were specifically told that this ad (and perhaps the other four) were
made in NH with NH supporters of RP. These are NOT acters. Their
impact is that they we be recognized by many dozens, perhaps hundreds, of people in their own and neighboring communities. That's the credibility of endorsements by people they know personally. (This is NOT
Regis and Kelly in a TV ad claiming they bank in Dixville Notch.)
You may have seen the NH Insider story which mentions the fact that NH people have noticed that the vast majority of RP signs are on private, rather than public, property. Once again, what's important to NH voters is
that so many of their neighbors are personally committed to RP. THAT's
what this ad conveys.

Still can't stand it? Fine, so be it. Get out your checkbooks, send money to the NH, Iowa, SC, NV and WY Meetup groups so they can buy RP campaign literature. Get out your credit cards, and find "chipin" projects
you can support - like the banner ads on Drudge, or the Manchester Union Leader. Organize another half dozen sign events. Submit a video
to the campaign ad contest. Move forward.

We're in the very competetive business of trying to win a presidential nomination here. There are far too many ways to stay involved to spend our time bitching about what we don't like (and may not fully comprehend).

Let's get to it.
Get out your

NH ad

I am going to save my judgement until the new numbers come out.

I refuse to get negative or even entertain the thoughts.

TV ad is terrible

I hope they stop this ad from airing on Monday.
What are they thinking. I don't care if they are professionals.
If we had listened to professionals Ron Paul would not be running.
I would like to know who is responsible for this ad? I would like to know if Ron Paul has seen this ad? Is this sabotage?
At the end of the ad this guy is saying the very not believable "Really".
as if they are trying to convince us that he is not!
Flood the campaign with calls. i called and told them the ad sucks but the person i talked don't get it so if they don't get it AND GET IT FAST THEN WE GOT A PROBLEM AT HQ'S.

I agree

It looks so phony, it is a complete turnoff. The acting is horrible.

New RP NH TV ad

Stop and think about the ad for a minute.

This ad is exactly what it's suppose to be. It's made to reach a demographic that you and I are NOT. We see internet ads and productions and most of us are really "plugged in". The folks he is shooting for are NOT "plugged in".

He is getting out on TV watchers, older folks, rural type people folks that could care less about a bunch of hype and glitter.

Take it easy, these RP folks know what they're doing. RP has ran 10 campaigns for congress and has beaten incumbants TWICE that were heavily favored against him!

RP knows what he is doing.

I couldn't disagree more !

This ad is exactly what it's NOT suppose to !! PHONY!! All the other candidates are PHONY!! Ron Paul is the only HONEST candidate out there ! You say it's "made to reach a demographic that you and I are not" WRONG again! I am a TV watcher, older folk, and live in the suburbs and it turned my stomach! You say " these RP folks know what they're doing". Well if these so called "RP folks" want to DESTROY Ron Paul I guess they do know what they are doing! Whoever directed and produced this HARMFUL piece should be FIRED immediately, before they can do any more HARM to Ron Paul!!

Ad

I'm usually not too critical, but I am concerned about this ad. I mean "pronto" what's that all about? I guess it's O.K. if it was on the cheap, but it has to be accompanied with another one that has Ron Paul doing one of his great speeches in congress. I mean the "let it not be said" speech or the anti-surge, I'm certain portions of those speeches embedded in a commercial would be profound. Just my opinion.

I TRUST RON PAUL

If we do not trust Dr. Paul now with his TV ads---how can we trust him with our future. I personally let go of the money I send him and I trust his judgement. We are not lobbist or special interest groups. We need to encourage and let him do what he believes is best. The message is there and this grandma understood it---so will New Hampshire. Peace

Dr. Paul 2008

Cheese factor aside...

I can't image Ron watching this ad and saying, "Oh, good...I'm orange."

No problem

That ad is targeted at a specific group, the internet hipster isn't in that target demographic.

No problem with the ad, just run it a LOT.

This AD is terrrible. The Campaign must make a better one.

All I can say is wow ... how awful was that?

Here we have real, impassioned grassroots support (by knowledgable citizens) for Ron Paul all around the Country, and yet they make a phony TV Ad with a bunch of boring, half-alseep, awkward people saying nothing but contrived, forced, things.

It looked so fake and phony.

Where is the real energy?
Where is the real enthusaism?
Where is the real inspiration?
Put That In The TV AD

Get the real thing out there.
Get the real energy out there.

Geez, this Ad was so phony it made me feel like I was watching a Joe Lieberman commercial.

Common Ron

You can do way better than that.

Just use your own voice and images, pick one topic, and hit it out of the park. then in a few weeks pick a new topic.

Honestly though.. Ron Paul has the hardest job in human history.. he has to explain the philosophy of liberty in 30 seconds.

NH ad

I think it was an ok ad. The money saved in production costs can get it aired a few more times.

jmeagan

Really? "an ok ad" ...REALLY?

Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. And that's OK.

And I agree that "money saved in production costs" can leave more money to run more ads.

However, I'll bet that there's a Ron Paul campaign staffer with a camcorder, tripod, and computer that can make a better ad in one day for about $zero dollars... And still have a lot better ad to run many more times than this last one.

Seriously, Ron Paul needs to demand his money back on this production.

Good / Not So Good

The good news:

1. We have enough money to run ads.
2. This ad will run heavily in the state where RP has the best chances.
3. The ad is not offensive.
4. The ad will imporve name recognition.
5. The ad will appeal to older, more rural, less internet savvy voters.
6. It's so cheesy it might have a memorable appeal or even a positive albeit unintended 'campy' effect.
7. Most ads 'work' when seen multiple times even if they are not 'good' or liked. (Advertising, sadly, is often premised on repitition not quality).

The not so good news:
1. Ron looks angry...
2. The ad reminds me of those conversational German videos we had to watch in high school... phony, staged, insincere, cheesy, and didactic (which is ok for a language class but not for a campaign presised solely on independence, sincereity, honesty, and integrity).
3. The acting is unnatural.
4. The spirit of the ad is... well, there is no spirit to the ad. It's neither inspirational nor fresh nor creative nor funny nor comforting nor inspiring nor bold.
5. Some of the cuts are jittery.
6. Several YouTube videos and or simple excerpts of live speeches are more natural and more informative.

Comment: The video is getting all of this blowback not because it's awful (though it's not great)--and not even because it won't be effective (because it might work), but because it's just not what this campaign is about. The "Revolution" is not about merely using grassroots to run a merely conventional campaign, but about spreading this fresh and uniting spirit throughout everything it touches. All in all, this ad doesn't suck, it's just not that great... and we've come to expect better.

I love what you said:

"The "Revolution" is not about merely using grassroots to run a merely conventional campaign, but about spreading this fresh and uniting spirit throughout everything it touches. All in all, this ad doesn't suck, it's just not that great... and we've come to expect better."

Much better!!!

Ok with all the complaints

Ok with all the complaints let us at least show people in case they see how much we don't like the add we still believe in our guy. Lets all donate right now to show even while complaing we still support our guy. Going to donate right now to give him money to buy good and bad adds.

Fine line between amatuer and authentic

I saw the lady in the ad at the Concord NH Ron Paul HQ rally. She is an ardent supporter not an actor. Probably no actors at all in this ad. Scripted? Probably.

But, I think the ad is simply awful. No emotional connection, no information, no strong message, no Ron Paul.

Focus on the MESSAGE and the MESSENGER. Pull this ad and use a better one.

h-daddy

TV ad a good starting point

Most people are not going to put this ad under a microscope like those of us who are passionate supporters. After all it is only 30 seconds long. We have to create awareness and name recognition. That is a good first step.

This ad can be changed, edited or redone if the campaign feels as though it is not getting the job done.

Terrible Ad

This ad is just terrible. It does nothing. It says nothing. Is this some sort of joke that campaign is playing on us . . . and on Dr. Paul?

Any one of us in the MeetUp with TV/FIlm production experience?

With the amount of grass roots support in hours, labor, and creativity, I guess I automatically assumed that one of us with some professional TV/Film production experience will step up and 'donate an ad" for the cash strapped campaign.

Anyone remember the name of the producer/director that did Jesse "the Mind" Ventura campaign ad for Minnesota governorship? I believe he/she may be a great choice. Plus that particular individual has a history of doing ads for underdog, independent candidates.

I agree, the ad leaves much to be desired. But I will leave the choice of whether Ron Paul continues to use this director in his hands, as the campaign progress into other states.

You know people often mistake RP's avuncular, humble demeanor, to mean that he won't be cut out for retail politics. But I gotta tell ya, he's a statesman, as well as being a shrewd politician. You don't get to be in Congress for 20yrs/10 terms, with progressively increasing amount of vote, term after term, unless you know what you are doing. Not to mention the fact that the sorry loser at the end of one the most hotly contested campaign of 1996 was against a Bush Crime Famila's goon; the Bushes financially supported a fmr Dem rep, who was essentially paid to switch to GOP to run against Ron Paul. And guess what? Our Good Doctor won, hands down. This wouldn't be the first time everyone's underestimated him. So, don't fret my friends.

I often think, contrary to popular belief, that it may serve the campaign, at least in the short term, to be considered "second tier," as it gives us and his campaign time to build momentum without much scrutiny. Though there haven't been any shortage of good publicity, so far.

But hey, Ron Paulites are some of the most creative, educated and inspired bunch. And not surprisingly, on the most part, Ron Paul Revolution, while aggressive, know that even though we're not affiliated with the official campaign in any way, most of us know that however which way we act, the uneducated public will perceive us to represent him directly nonetheless; I've yet to see anyone curse on any of the YouTube event coverages. They are congenial when handing out flyers, etc.

Having said that, if other ads, in the future, continue to be of this caliber, I suggest we dig in to our creative bin and find him someone who's got the goods. There's bound to be a director, film student somewhere who will be willing to do it for free, or for a more modest pay, no?

Come on people, I know you're out there. Please step up and help the Good Doctor.

And no more of this defeatist attitude I've begun to see on this site, only in the last two days, of so called purported Ron Paul supporters campaigning for him while not really believing he'll win. What the hell is that about??. Do we have to do some smack down against the Hucka, Roooney, or Ghouliani goons, who have infiltrated the RP Revolution, here? LOL

NO More defeatism. Period. It STOPS right now.

RP 2008!!!! B E L I E V E IT.

DONATE an AD for RON PAUL!

Yes, how about we start a new contest in every MeetUp across America? Hell, do it on Cable Access!! On radio, for those who are able to handle PAC FEC related territory. We've got the online thing covered. And I found having a laptop with .flv or .avi of Ron Paul clips ready to play on demand categorized by issues, very effective. A short clip to hook a potential Ron Paul supporter.

So how about it people? You all know what you can do, and how inspired we all are, of the various meetup group efforts across the country.

A contest to "DONATE an AD for RON PAUL!

That could be the least

That could be the least professional and convincing political advertisement I've ever seen. Almost every Youtube video I've seen is better than that. UnBELIEVABLE that this would air.

www.paulforronpaul.com

Un-hollywoodish

I'm glad the ad is unemotional and absent the media-blitz we have to put up with every time we turn on the tube.

"Live free or die, New Hampshire" is my favorite part. I like this ad.

I am an Independent; I'm pro-choice; and like the first speaker says, I don't always agree with Ron Paul. But, I'm voting for him -- and am as loyal as they come.

One does not have to be obsessive about the man or his message, to think rationally that he is the best choice.

I think the ad is ok. Some

I think the ad is ok. Some YouTube videos are good too. I think excerpts from Rons sppech at the Iowa straw pole would be wonderful along with that video with Jach Cafferty in it would be good. Also that animated commercial with all the tv's blasting and then you hear Ron's voice breaking out of the crowd, was excellent. I am no expert but I also think ads that touch the heart would sway a lot of people over to Ron Paul. Just one old mans opinion, bear with me :)

A good example of a Ron Paul ad....

Check out these ads if you think his ad is "not that bad":

http://www.operationnh.com/commercials.html

This shows how much better the ad could be. Perhaps we should find out who put together these ads and have them create some new ones for Ron Paul's official campaign.

Far superior commercials here!

Wow...thanks for telling us about these great commercials...I hope everyone takes a look!!!
http://www.operationnh.com/commerci...
They are lightyears above the EMBARRASSIN' campaign TV ad, which after viewing I thought...
..."O, No!...I think I'll freakin' DIE!" It does not match the creativity, energy, sincerity and pure class of Dr. Paul. His websites with the brilliant financial graph, along with the new mailer, are amazing...but I will be heartsick if they run that TV travesty.
Yes, I sound like a drama queen, but after viewing the ad I would dismiss him if I didn't know much about him.

absolutely

i agree 100% why pay someone all this money for a not so good ad when these guys would probaly be honored to do it for free. and think of the extra publicity it would get if the news let out that the ads were made by volunteers who feel very stongly about getting him elected.thats an ad in itself.

Yeah this is a lame ad.

Yeah this is a lame ad. Those actors look like they are actors. Bad ones. They may be genuine supporters but they are so staged they look like amateurs trying to sell their first used car on tv. If you want real supporters to speak then they must be spontaneous interviews at some rally not all prepped up and given a script.

Let people speak from their heart. Better yet let Ron speak from his heart. Piece together some parts of speeches one subject at a time and rotate through immigration, Iraq, deficit etc. Give Ron the time and drop in a spontaneous remark from a supporter now and then but give the microphone to our Doctor Ron Paul.

..Without the truth we have nothing

yuck! this is crap!

first it starts off with the traditional red white and blue, blue back round white shirt and ron pauls red face. ive seen better makeup jobs done on dead people. and ron paul looks mad or mean.smile ron! then it goes to the hicks on the porch and the first thing out of his mouth is "i dont agree with everything ron paul says" thats just lovely isnt it? the whole production wreaks of phoneyness, which is the exact opposite of ron paul. the acting is horrible to boot, there is nothing sincere looking about this ad. yank it, fire the producer and use a youtubers ad. they are so much better if anything use the ad the PAC made, that was good or use something in that caliber. this ad was horrible. like larry silverstien said about building 7 of the wtc "PULL IT"

For one thing sir... or ma'am.

I agree with your point of view concerning the quality of the commercial, but do not smear those appearing in the commercial with lines like, "then it goes to the hicks on the porch." Everyone featured in that video is a fellow supporter. That is why the acting isn't the greatest. Maybe if you learned to give "constructive" criticism instead of acting like a douche, more people would be willing to listen to your ramblings about WTC 7!

Too plastic

this video needs Ron Paul speaking more than the people are sell his message I agree a waitress in a diner would be excellent in promoting his bill in congress and also showing that he is working for the American worker.

Who is authorizing these ads ????

"Freedom is a right that can never be won in war, only by each individual "

Not the greatest...

I'm going to try really hard to not be negative. I love this movement. I love this message. I've been waiting for this for a long time, but that commercial is like shooting yourself in the foot. There are only a few ways that a Ron Paul commercial should be produced.

1) ALLOW SUPPORTERS TO RECORD VIDEO STATEMENTS IN A BOOTH SETUP AT YOUR RALLIES! Show pictures of the support throughout the commercial. Just let us speak in our own words. ITS FREE MATERIAL! All you have to do then is find someone to edit it.

2) JUST LET RON PAUL SPEAK! That's it. Just get in front of the camera, and make a quick point for people to think about. I know the man is a great writer. I am sure he could come up with something. Hell make 5 different ads with 5 different points and put them on rotation. Another thought... Start a video off with the "Mr. Speaker, I rise to urge Congress to think twice..." and then do a quick over-view of the issues that concern us the most.

3) HAVE A SUPPORTER PRODUCTION CONTEST! Hopefully, everyone has seen eLiberty's stuff. Oh and there is a pretty good one setup like an Apple parody that could just be shortened.

I Love ya Ron, but we gotta do better than this.

This was very disappointing.

This was very disappointing. It has no fire, not even a glow. Bad actors and no positive message. If this was my introduction to Ron Paul, it would make no impression or spark any interest for further examination. My best advice would be to scrap it, hire a competent ad-agency and get real Ron Paul supporters to participate.

I don't like it, either.

I want an ad with a take on issues that's either interesting enough or funny enough that it's like a Wellstone-ad (minus the socialism, of course). This thing WILL NOT spread virally, even if it tested well in some focus group. Why does a campaign full of the world's funniest human beings have such official trouble emitting a commercial with humor when so-much of government is a joke?

Maybe the fact that I, an admitted Rachel-level Ron Paul addict, don't like it is a GOOD sign, because presumably they tested it on "normal" folks. I hope so. But I still hope they put one out where I could proudly forward it. Maybe a bunch of waitresses being funny about no-tax-on-tips??

diner scene: Waitress pouring coffee responds to customer's positive comments with a coment of her own on Ron Paul's bill in congress and how he's for the little people.

DAMN GOOD IDEA...

That is so good! Have a waitress come over to a table of supporters talking about Ron Paul. Could even be a small debate among friends. You know chit-chat. Then she interrupts with a line like, "Talk about caring, I heard he even introduced legislation to end the taxation of tips!"

Boom!!! Even if the commercial is as cheesy as this one comes across. Hell you could even make it cheesy on purpose like a 50's tv commercial! Hell do it in Black and White. It still makes you think, and at least it will get those in the service industries attention.

Not just "of tips..."

"of OUR tips..." And then one makes a joke about the other's worries about not fully reporting, and (if we can get the idea across in 30 seconds, work with me here) a REALLY pretty one reads the part of Dr. Paul's statement about how taxation punishes hard-workers extra hard with assumptions. And an old one could even say, truthfully, that the IRS didn't always go-after tips and back then the world didn't come to an end. It's our issue, we need to own it on TV, even though I hope all of you are passing out cards right and left! :)

Why I think this ad was terrible

I usually don't post messages, but I make an exception for this one. I found this video totally out of sync with everything that has made the Ron Paul campaign great.

- people were acting, not real
- hardly any content
- underdog perspective, as if you don't believe RP can win

>> It ends with "He's catching on, I'm telling you!"

And you can actually hear the doubt in the voice of the actor there... Terribe, it made me cringe!

Please fire the people who made this.
