BUYING MORE- GOLD/SILVER...with caution
(Update 2)- i bought 50 Silver American Eagles(2008 uncirc.) and 50 Canadian Maple Leaf (2008 uncirc.) today...starting to ease into Silver. Price could still go down to $16.50 oz...but i doubt it...i bought at BullionDirect.com
(Updated 1)- we are now in the thick ...or just under support. one of two things will happen. it seems to me that the markets are reaching a resistance level. Gold and Silver will either "pop" or "drop" tomorrow. If Gold and Silver "gap open"(jumps before open of the market tomorrow...then we will be going back up in a big way, i expect a big market selloff...with a rebound in Gold and Silver. OR a beak even day...this may or may not signal a reversal in directions for all markets
if Gold and Silver slide tomorrow...we are headed for more down trending. the next support under the Gold price is around $850oz and for Silver the next support under the Silver Price is around $15.50.
i am thinking of buying some Silver tonight or tomorrow for the first time...but be careful because certain entities want to break Gold and Silver bugs.

now at major support...
gold and silver have completed their pullback to main support levels. i am not afraid to buy at this level at all. main support is between 800 & 825 an oz.. i expect consolidation for the short term.
Gold price drops
Could be more manipulation by "the cartel". Also, one does have to expect such fluctuations as normal market behaviour.
For an excellent website regarding the gross manipulation, and suppression, of the gold price by the central banks and governments, I highly recommend visiting the following site: www.gata.com

Apmex & NWT
I'm new to buying silver but I've searched the web and as far as I can see Northwest Territory Mint has the best prices if you are buying 50oz or more and free shipping also. But, they have a backlog and it takes about 4-6 weeks for delivery. APMEX has the next best prices and they also offer the half ounce rounds. They have very quick shipping and I'm thinking of buying another 150oz today.
I have only been buying the rounds and/or bars in 1//2oz and 1oz, since they are cheaper than the eagles or maple leafs, and once again I would like to ask:
Is there some advantage to buying coins over rounds/bars?
I have already learned to be careful how I buy. My first purchase last month I ordered 100oz of the generic silver .999, because it was the cheapest at APMEX, and intead of getting a mix of rounds and bars, like I had hoped, I ended up with one large 100oz bar. lol Now I don't know what to do with it. Any suggestions?
If you can, find a local dealer
and build a relationship.
Eagles will be recognizable just about everywhere. Rounds not as much, unless you take them back to a dealer, you might have to take a bigger hit when selling than you would with an Eagle but not so much you should worry about it. What have you got, Prospectors?
What to do with your 100oz bar? Put it away and go buy more metal.

I buy any low-premium silver I can get at a local coin shop.
There's no shipping, no waiting, no name on file, and the prices are as good as any I've found online. I get dimes, quarters, halves, and dollar coins, plus any bullion that they have.
I figure if prices shoot sky-high, it's all liquid and I can cash in for Monopoly money anytime. But if the dollar gets so shaky that an underground silver/gold economy develops, the coins should be more useful than the bullion because of the variety of denominations.
BD is good too

You should consider diversifying your silver holdings. Get some bags of $100 face 90% coins, some eagles, and generic rounds/bars. Also, if you're looking for smaller coins you might as well just get bags of 90% instead of wasting the premium on 1/2 oz rounds.
Purchase locally, to build a
Purchase locally, to build a relationship with the dealer. They don't take your name or any information about you. I have now been purchasing silver rounds for just $1 over spot. Today I paid $17.38 per round.
I love silver in everything, jewelry, hardware and money!!!!

A "clad bag" or two (5 or 6?) of 40%
Wouldn't hurt either.

ditkuss...question...
how does BullionDirect.com compare in price of bags of silver (junk silver) with your local dealer?
I'm not sure
The only silver coins I've bought at a local coin shop are American Eagles, and those were way overpriced. I'm guessing it's cheaper online, especially if you buy in bulk, but I don't know for sure.
oh, ok...
i've never bought locally either. just wanted an idea. i figured that is one more middle man to pay for. thanks.
Shop around..
If you can call a few places they'll sometimes ask you what you've been quoted by another coin dealer and they'll give a lower bargain...I had this happen a couple of times..One dealer quoted me 19.56 per eagle..The next one told me $19.02 after I mentioned I was calling around for prices.

send a note to the fed
Buying where they retain your name and address is like sending in your name to the fed - "I'm buying precious metals, so when you finally get around to recalling and confiscating it, it will make it easier for you to know who has possession. Just let me know when you want to send the Treasury thugs and I'll gather it up for you."
Remember the Liberty Dollar. Remember April 1933 when Roosevelt called for a 'banking holiday' and ordered the confiscation of gold. Use your head people. Any small premium paid to a local cash-only coin shop is very much worth it.

just bought more...
(15) 2008 silver eagles...&
(15) 2008 silver maple leaf-s
oh...i forgot...
all uncirculated, of course.
uncirculated?? the silver
uncirculated?? the silver eagles are investment coins and not meant to be in circulation to be used as legal tender correct? or am I wrong? is the there a price difference.. I have never heard of a "circulated" eagle coin.
as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD
Hey, Sierra
The difference is between uncirculated and proof coins. Here is a short explanation of the difference.
http://www.goldsovereigns...
thanks e_ so all eagles
thanks e_ so all eagles are uncirculated!
as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD
no problem
right, eagles are not circulated. At least not yet.
true! i bet they won't stay
true! i bet they won't stay uncirculated much past 2010?
as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD
good question...
Susan B's were circulated but i have never seen an American Eagle in circulation, even though they are legal tender. i suppose since they are legal tender they could be used in circulation at face value, but that would be stupid to use them at face value. that is why i like the Maple Leaf better for it has a face value of $5 (Canadian).
bought Silver...
[50] 2008 American Eagles @ $19.39 each
[50] 2008 Canadian Maple Leaf @ $19.14 each
all uncirculated. have to till may for delivery of the Maple Leaf-s
be blessed
Good for you....
I purchase 60 silver eagles from nwmint....and won't get here until June....I bought them in March. (and they were not 2008's). Did they say when you'd get your Eagles?
I can't imagine the prices dipping too much more....
Wow more than 90 day
Wow more than 90 day delivery time! thats terrible! but hey there is no shortage! this is why you should be buying ALL the silver you can at any price.. at some point silver will streak past 100.00 per ounce.. you won't be able to buy it at any price.. to hell with buying the pull backs this is one market you cannot time! IT IS IN SHORTAGE FOLKS... when the industrial users start to panic, I'm talking about the big boys, huge corporations who have to have silver to make their products, companies who have millions to buy and stock pile silver to keep the production lines open... ITS GAME OVER.. IF YOU DON'T HAVE SILVER... YOU WON'T FIND SILVER ANYWHERE! those multinational Corporations will get theres! you the little guy won't! at that point SILVER WILL BE PRICED AT THE SAME PRICE AS GOLD! there is less silver in the world then gold and silver is used in so many products! CAN'T YOU GUYS SEE WHY THIS IS THE CHANCE OF A LIFETIME! 90% 1000 dollar face bags!
eagles are great too-- get what you can while you can!
as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD
i almost bought from NWMint...
because they had a cheaper price if you ordered 60 or more. but i wanted them sooner rather than later, and the Eagles were in stock where i bought them.
Don't worry about the dates -- just get the silver.
Make sure you buy uncirculated and not proof coins.

when do i get the Eagles...
they are in stock for immediate delivery. but the Maple Leafs will not be shipped until may.
for some reason i like the maple leafs because they have $5 on them instead of $1 like the eagles...old currency plays are hard to quit...heh
Am I foolish to refuse to buy Maple Leafs which are unshipped?
The coin dealer here says he is 4 months behind in his "regular" shipments. He is very frustrated.
How can we trust the Mint if they are not delivering to regular buyers? Something is odd, doncha think?
Find a new dealer.
Look at other forms of silver as well. I'd rather have a Panda, Onza, or Credit Suisse than nothing at all.

odd...yep..
i believe it is all manipulation to get foreigners to buy back into US dollars to keep it from crashing. also to force the Chinese to let the Yuan float on the market. the reason i believe this is that it will lower the debt that the US owes the Chinese who have banked the war in Iraq, and it will make trade between the US and China more balanced...wiping out some trade deficits. this is part of the reason the Fed is allowing the dollar to fall. Canada is positioned to benefit from it also. it would seem to me that it is to Canada's benefit to not stamp out more maple leafs to keep them scarce. this will make all things Canadian worth more.
this is why countries are screaming at the US to strengthen the dollar...especially Europe.
What?
Let me get this right, if Canada doesn't mint the Maple Leaf, they will be scarce and worth more?.
What's the difference between a one once Leaf, Nugget, Eagle, or Panda?
Just the stamp. It's all silver.
Interesting post.

i'm talking about currency value...
not silver value. for legal tender has both attached to it. this is why they have different prices whether spot or fixed. it does not make any sense that it cost more for a silver eagle than it does for a maple leaf...yet, it did. the maple leaf was cheaper to buy than the eagle. why? who knows...if it was silver value only...then they would all be the same price.
That's not what you said.
"it would seem to me that it is to Canada's benefit to not stamp out more maple leafs to keep them scarce."
I just checked four different sites and they were the same price.

the value of Canada's currency goes up...
in value when it's currency is in demand...if they make more of a demand by not stamping out more they increase the value of it and the demand for it. this is what the commodity miners have been doing. the demand for gold, silver, copper and all other commodities has risen. but what do the mining companies do? they slow down production. they allow a strike in mexico to go on for ever. why? it drives up the price and lowers the cost because they do not have to use as much production costs to make the same amount or more money.
I think you're in a metaphoric meltdown chris x.
The terms you are looking for are "fabricate" or "mint".
Which mine in Mexico has had a strike going on forever? Perhaps you're thinking of the power problems with the South African mines?
You're fascinating.
