Ventura on Ron Paul

Clearly Jesse Ventura is listening to Ron Paul. He says "I agree with Ron Paul. We just went in to Iraq. We can just get out." It's at about 6:40 of this clip.
Some were critical of Ventura here because he endorses "None of the above" as his choice for President, but I think he simply means "Of the supposed presumptive nominees, I like none of them." He's obviously a fan. I'd love to see him run with Ron Paul as a liberterian. They'd have a serious chance. Not gonna happen though unfortunately.

Ventura is an idiot. I hope he doens't endorse Paul. That would just feed the rumors that Paul is a 9/11 Truther.

The first problem..
.. with the Libertarian ticket is that it cannot be successful without pulling in traditionalist conservatives. Barry Goldwater united the libertarians and conservatives which later resulted in Reagan being elected.
Many traditionalist conservatives will not vote for a pure libertarian candidate. They support Dr. Paul because he is a fusionist libertarian-conservative very close to Reagan's message(his message - not what Reagan actually accomplished).
That's where Bob Barr comes in. Barr is HIGHLY esteemed among traditionalist conservatives, especially the old Reaganites, and he is known to have a smaller but significant libertarian streak with his history of support for civil liberties.
Ventura has always been an independent and only recently suggested he might be ok with a label of libertarian(the philosophy NOT the party) and he has never been associated with the Libertarian Party at all.

I could see Jesse with his military background in this position. Speaking to people about Ron Paul they get excited about Paul/Ventura ticket. Personally I think the original line up of Paul/Napolitano with Schiff and Ventura in cabinet posts would be impossible to beat !

I was for that too if RP gets the nomination. But the hurdles abound and Plan B needs to come together and soon. If Paul cannot get the nomination then continuing to push Paul would be the very definition of insanity.

At this very point in time that would be political suicide. Like Paul saying he'd run 3rd party for the last year and up to the convention.
The public at large will only see Ventura as a Paul serogate threw the eyes of the MSM. If Ventura is going be taken seriously he needs to be able to do so completely independent of any Paul influence. At least in the eyes of the public at large. He has to be able to prove that he is the right guy in spite of who his running mate is, in spite of being 3rd party, and in spite of whatever other obstacles befall him. The man needs to able to stand alone before he can stand with us, for us.
Then when he's got a competitive edge on the front runners pick up RP as the running mate and sling shot their way to the Whitehouse.
Anyone thinking that Paul could just pick up Ventura and that will make everything all better is being very nearsighted. But if you have a logical explanation for how this can be achieved. Please I'd love to read about it.

He stated that his biggest huddle would be attaining ballot access. If you can squander that then we can talk about a Ventura/Paul ticket. ...and really that's how I'd see it unfolding. Ventura's got that Hollywood darkhorse rockstar thing going and as superficial as that sounds that is probably what it will take to compete with the opposing egos involved. If one of the main gripes about Dr. Paul are that he does not seem like a leader, I doubt those same pundits can say the same about Ventura. Watch any interview of Ventura and compare stage presence with the interviewer. Do you ever get the feeling that he could be bullied by the media? Or any living being for that matter?

Well, if Ventura wants to run Libertarian Party he's in a position where he could just walk into the nomination. I'd vote for him.
On the other hand if he's so egocentric that he won't run on someone else's party, I guess I won't vote for him. I personally think he's blowing smoke with this "I can't get ballot access" thing. He probably wants the publicity but not the actual responsibility of running.

I seriously don't think it's just as simple as walking in the Libertarian camp and saying, "Okay, I'm ready to be your nominee now..." The posture as I see it is he is asking for help or at least is putting himself out there so that if we really are that interested. We or rather the lesser powers-that-be will find a way to make it happen.
The Libertarians already have several contenders for the nomination that although they truly have no chance may not be willing to endorse the maneuver. If the Libertarian party does not accept him then motion is dead in the water. Without those resources there can never be enough capitol to make a stand.

We don't know how easy that is, because no celebrity candidate has ever attempted it to date. My hunch is that the little standard-issue LP candidates, who haven't generally even got municipal government experience, would be rolled aside at the LP convention if an international celebrity ex-Governor threw his hat in. It must be feasible, or Mike Gravel would not be attempting to horn in on the process now.
I know Jesse's "testing the waters", but I wish he'd make his intentions much more clear. If he wants a Third Party run, he needs to spit it out. Time is short.
I do know this much: the Libertarian Party chooses its candidates during the convention--there are no bound delegates. If there had been, the 2004 libertarian party candidate for president would have been Aaron Russo.

Perhaps, and I truly hope you're right. But still think we need to get our feelers out there and see if there is positive feedback and potential for Libertarian support. At least enough to figure out of Ventura should go to the convention.
This has the potential to put the Libertarians on the map and would hope that they see this as well.

Support from Ventura would be a great help, but Judge Andrew Napolitano would be the right person to fill the VP slot.
