World Food Riots
HUNGER smashed in the front gate of Haiti's presidential palace. Hunger poured on to the streets, burning tyres and taking on soldiers and the police. Hunger sent the country's prime minister packing.
Haiti's hunger, that has become fiercer than ever in recent days as global food prices spiral out of reach, rising by as much as 45% since the end of 2006 and turning staples such as beans, corn and rice into closely guarded treasures.
Saint Louis Meriska's children ate two spoonfuls of rice apiece as their only meal and then went without any food the following day. His eyes downcast, his own stomach empty, the unemployed father said: "They look at me and say 'Papa, I'm hungry', and I have to look away. It's humiliating and it makes you angry."
That anger is palpable across the globe. The food crisis is not only being felt among the poor but is also eroding the gains of the working and middle classes, sowing volatile levels of discontent and putting new pressures on fragile governments.
In Cairo, Egypt, the military is being put to work baking bread as rising food prices threaten to become the spark that ignites wider anger at a repressive government. In Burkina Faso and other parts of sub-Saharan Africa, food riots are breaking out as never before. In reasonably prosperous Malaysia, the ruling coalition was nearly ousted by voters who cited food and fuel price increases as their main concerns.

Government training.
Many government programs give poor families money so they can buy food, of course one would think this is a good idea. But in poor communities where they can plant food to eat, they now go down to the local shop and buy what they need. Sure it keeps people fed, but I think if governments used our money instead to teach people how to grow better crops and become independent, it would be a much better investment and use of our taxpayer dollars. Of course as it is people are much better controlled when they are hungry and you give them food. Roll over Fido.
Stop Ethanol
Stop making corn based ethanol and we'll go back to normal.
People have to decide what is worse: starvation or global warming.
I've seen
alot of evidence to suggest that the production of ethanol actually produces more gasses then it saves. Sad that America is the land of knee jerk reactions these days.
Considering there is no GW
.....
Exactly
We're all being played in so many ways.
Bump
Bump
would it
would it not be better if every area's food supply was grown locally? It seems that if everyone rely's on imported food, this happens very easily. People would be less likely to reproduce where food is not easily grown and a shortage of something wouldn't have such an impact. Surely every area would have their hard times but wouldn't it help the country become more personally responsible. It seems relying on other nations for food is like relying on the government for income. They become your owner. It almost goes against the laws of nature to have lots of people in barren areas.
My thoughts exactly.
Modernization does allow people to break fundamental ties to common sense survival, and live anywhere, but at a risk. You become dependent rather than independent.
I have to add flour and oil
I have to add flour and oil to my food stocks. These are more tricky to store, especially the oil/fat. I found these two links helpful:

Americans begin Hoarding food..
Here's another article out this morning..
http://www.washingtontime...
Hmmm----so those of us preparing for our families
are now being labeled as "Hoarding Food"? Please think about this! it is just another way to further divide us!
In the early 70's I bought a year's supply of food at a warehouse market when we got paid for our cattle we sold, and I bought a case of jar lids. That is how the jar lids were sold---only by the case! The next year there was supposedly a shortage of jar lids, and stores would ration them out to customers. Thennnn--the news media began reporting that people were "hoarding" jar lids! (Now how do you suppose, if the stores were only letting customers buy 2 or 3 packages, could ANYONE have bought enough jar lids to "hoard"?!!) So the label was being applied to those of us who had providentially provided ahead for our families!
I did share the jar lids I had with other friends that canned foods, but, even as I did, I could see that some of them were looking at me as if I was a bad person because I was "Hoarding Jar Lids"!! Aaagh!!
The moral to this story is:
Buy yourself a case or two of jar lids and lots of canning jars, plant a garden and can and dry some fruits and vegetables. It is gonna get UGLY, folks!
And it is all going.....
....exactly as planned. The Satanic cabal that controls the food, oil and now the weather have all but completely accomplished their goal. The final and most horrendous act is now unfolding. To starve two thirds of the global population is indeed that final act.
As I watch the results of the polls I know for a fact that America is doomed. The arrogance and stupidity of the American masses is their tightening noose. And now I see only one way to escape, a Bloody Revolution. No more peace rally's, no more voting, no more. It is time to raise the saber and charge the beast, to cut out it's blackened heart, to slaughter it.
It is Us or Them.
I second that. I think those
I second that. I think those little a**holes are underestimating our ire.
The citizens in those countries are fighting back. I hope that happens here too, it's just a bloody shame that it has come to this. I mean, I just graduated from high school two years ago. I'm 20 years old and I get to watch my country dissolve, what little pittance I have turn to toilet paper, and my friends and family go hungry. This is just sickening.
This is it guys. These pyschopathic dickheads aren't going away unless we do something about it, and unfortunately I think that something is going to come with a blood sacrifice.
Gnat60..we are on same page
all by design, also figure into this scenario the dangerous decline of bee populations..ive also come to very sad conclusion that no matter the number of votes, they will never allow Ron Paul his legitimate win..our neighbors though at fault have themselves been given unhealthy food, fluoridated and filthy water to drink, drugged by every conceivable method and mindwashed with dept of nazi education.. am an old woman but damn it , theres still a warrior inside this old body and i will fight for my country
There's a warrior inside every one of us
It's time that we all embrace the warrior within instead of being ashamed of it.
only in America
are the people arrogant and uninformed enough to believe it will never happen here
Charity ideas
Can anyone recommend a good, credible charity that will help out those people in the countries most affected by the food crisis?
my favorite charity

the current humanitarian crisis in Texas. :(
COSCO Asks For Rationing of Rice
Posted at their stores in California this week asking their customers to limit their purchases on rice and to NOT stock up on it.
That notice would make me buy 10 more.
It's only..
It's only a matter of time before this happens here...Lucky we have eachother at DP to warn and give advice to one another...
