McCain Gets Tax-Free Disability Pension - $58,358!!
Sen. John McCain has long said he is in robust health and is strong enough to hike the Grand Canyon, but he also is receiving what his staff Monday termed a "disability pension" from the Navy.
When McCain released his tax return for 2007 on Friday, he separately disclosed that he received a pension of $58,358 that was not listed as income on his return.
On Monday, McCain's staff identified the retirement benefit as a "disability pension" and said that McCain "was retired as disabled because of his limited body movements due to injuries as a POW."

Self Less...... Not
Gas is killing my business. I somehow bounced 5 checks this week... stress is a killer. Pretty soon no one will have to worry about insurance cheets becuase we'll have no one making anything in this once fine country. No money in my pocket equals no money for the government to hand out like candy.
Shucks... seems like 1 in every 5 people I know are on some sort of government "disabiltiy" and there ain't a damn thing that's keeping them from enjoying their permanent vacation. Meanwhile I'm out here bust'n my ass. So to myself I can easily say McCain is a crook for taking the money that the "new crop" of injured vets could surely use. You can have your opinion, and I can have mine.... and from where I stand in my pile of rising business and living costs.... worse than a crook in my book.

For someone who married into
For someone who married into "richness", using taxpayer money for disability is really as low as can get. It should be for people who really need it and cannot afford to pay the sums, not someone flying around in rented jets! These people from the government, really think the taxpayers are a bunch or idiots, well it's time to wake up to reality, do some real background checking on all the candidates, don't ever base yourself on what the mainstream media tells you, find what they have not told you about Hillary/Barack/McCain, and then you'll be surprised and even feel quite stupid to have been promoting one of these three with all the info you can get from the Internet. Of course, do the same with the good ol' Doc, and you'll see who works for the People and who works for the establishment. Don't let another 12 years get by, for a lack of simple background research you were to lazy to do, cause that would be exactly what "they" want", that you only listen to what CNN, CBS, C NBC, etc, tell you. You have a magnificent document in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, not to mention the Declaration of Independence!!!! I envy yours, and wish all countries to emulate this wonderful documents. May god bless you freedom lovers, freedom is the answer to most problems we face today. Your rights are GOD given, anyone dare tell the contrary will have to deal with his demons or God himself. He does thing that can only surprise you, you will never see a " miracle" where you could have imagined" it, it will always be a surprise. I would not like to be in the camp that goes against the Light, the Truth, The Creator. We are all one of his creations/children, and those that kill his creations/children, including the Earth, he will "be back" as Schwarzenegger said.

I've never served so I can't comment from a strictly military perspective. I do agree with the post further down that mentioned that one of the things that draws so many to Dr. Paul is that with him you get 100% principle, 100% of the time. Don't forget, this is a man who has never taken a congressional junket, always comes in under his yearly budget, and has refused the congressional pention plan. So, fiscal issues and credibility very important to RP supporters.
In may people's minds, the Keating 5 scandal alone was enough to permanently cross JM off their list of "principled" politicians.
As for FDR, if you haven't seen these films, you might want to check them out. They might just change your opinion of him a bit:

McCain III was awarded
McCain III was awarded “medals for valor” equal to nearly a medal-and-a-half for each hour he spent in combat.
For 23 combat missions (an estimated 20 hours over enemy territory), the U.S. Navy awarded McCain III, the son of famous admirals, a Silver Star, a Legion of Merit for Valor, a Distinguished Flying Cross, three Bronze Stars, two Commendation medals plus two Purple Hearts and a dozen service medals.
“McCain had roughly 20 hours in combat,” explains Bill Bell, a veteran of Vietnam and formerchief of the U.S. Office for POW/MIA Affairs -- the first official U.S. representative in Vietnamsince the 1973 fall of Saigon.
“Since McCain got 28 medals,” Bell continued, “that equals to about a medal-and-a-half for each hour he spent in combat. There were infantry guys -- grunts on the ground -- who had more than 7,000 hours in combat and I can tell you that there were times and situations where I’m sure
a prison cell would have looked pretty good to them by comparison. The question really is how many guys got that number of medals for not being shot down.”

Hard to like this guy even back then...lol.
Now the taxpayers are footing his SC as well as his other payroll.
Double-dipping, indeed.
What was the cause of
What was the cause of McCains broken arms during Nam?
Vietnam vets say his arms were broken when he ejected from his cockpit and did not follow orders for ejecting which says you need to keep arms tight to sides to prevent what happened to McCain. Pictures of him the day after he was shot down back up this story because hes in a hospital with casts on both arms.

Also, the amount of disability pension you get is determined by the percent of your disability, 1 to 100% of your base salary. If McInsane is getting $4700 a month, that would probably be close to 100% of his base salary. So he is 90 to 100% disabled according to that.
MCCAIN CRASHED 3 PLANES IN NON-COMBAT MISSIONS, WAS SHOT DOWN, FINISHED 894 OUT OF 899 AT ANNAPOLIS.
He's got to have PTS by the way his anger rises up sometimes.
God help us. We're stuck with 3 of the worst choices we could have for the next POTUS.

Disability Pension my foot!!
This man is worth millions or his wife is, they own at least 8 homes. Money grubbing #$%%. Nothing can surprise me anymore regarding this man.
Your vitriol betrays your motives
Are you going to dispute the fact that it was a missle the "fell" off McCains plane that ignited the inferno that caused the deaths of so many? And we are talking horrific deaths. Nothing like being locked into a compartment with JP5 pouring in on you and burning you to death. Are you going to deny that his father as well as his Grand father were both admirals in the Navy? Are you going to deny that their might have been a cover up? Wheres your proof? Keep posting, the more response we get the better. I also respond very well to personal insults. As far as Wiko whatever it is, I am seeing a bit of difference in what it has had to say about the disaster than was previously posted so I must question the sources who have recently changed the article.
Well..
My Late Uncle was on the Forrestal when it happened, so, I have more than just conspiracy theory nut case knowledge.
But of course according to you I have no idea what I am talking about.
It was a rocket that Struck McCain's plane while he was waiting to launch. It hit his fuel tank, so, I guess he is at fault for having a full tank of fuel before he took off.
You speak of proof. Where is yours?
As for his Father and Grandfather being an Admiral, yeah, shame on him for having successful family members.
I have a friend whos cousins brothers aunt had an uncle
who claimed he was abducted by a UFO and anally probed. I'm sure McCain's daddy and grand daddy had nothing to do with any of the reports to come out of the tragedy. Just what has McCain been successful at other than dumping his first wife because she was disfigured in an auto accident? Oh yeah, he was pretty good at consistently leaving a trail of destruction behind him.
Speak of proof...
that should be an easy thing.. after all, we'd just have to look at McCain's military records. Like he says, a little sunshine is a good thing, is it not? That would clear everything up real quick.
Too bad he had them sealed FOREVER... maybe he's just humble?
/sarcasm
So the only thing we have to go by is what he has said.
One of the things he has said is that he exchanged military information in return for medical treatment as a POW. When I was in the military, that was called treason. Yep, we need another one of those in the white house.
As I've said before...
...it's not nice to make fun of a person's mental disability. We're better than this, folks. :-)
"We don't have to start a brand new revolution...All we have to do is restore the original Constitution." -Ron Paul
While this might be a
While this might be a legitimate benefit, we know that RP, in the same position, would decline more of the *taxpayers money* than he was already getting as his salary.
Yeah.. but
Well we will never know the answer to such an inane question, But, I can probably guess that Ron Paul, being a veteran himself, would never bad mouth a fellow veteran and former POW for getting a Retirement Disability pension.
I can't even comment on this
I can't even comment on this right now. I believe that just pi#$%^ me off more than I can handle. Unf#@$ably unbelievable!
Yes.. well
It angers me to when disabled veterans get compensation for their injuries. How dare they!
Sure... but $60,000/yr?
Sure... but $60,000/yr? That's more than many families make. I'd like to see records showing that Mr. McCain is actually spending $60,000 each year on medical treatments for these specific ailments.
The $60k was not disability
The $60k was not disability medical coverage, it is a disability pension. Pension as in cash in his pocket. Medical expenses are probably in addition to that amount. But I wouldn't complain about VA hospital medical expenses for injuries he sustained while in the military.
WORD!!!
That's more than I made last year and I know of Vets in less comfortable positions than McCanus that most definitely have not received any benefits particularly of that magnitude. The last few years of my fathers life was spent fighting for a few extra hours of home care per week and his income/benefits was far less than my own.
"It is like a finger pointing away to the moon, don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all the heavenly glory." - Bruce Lee
You are ignoring the most
You are ignoring the most important thing. How can the government be paying him as 100% disabled, yet also paying him for a full time senator job?? That is not supposed to happen! AND surely if he is 100% disabled he should not..COULD not, have a job as president, for crying out loud.....
Well...
Generally speaking, veterans who receive service-connected compensation for a physical disability, with a few exceptions, CAN work without penalty to their SC compensation. The exceptions are veterans who have some psychiatric disabilities or veterans with individual unemployability.
So it depends on whether he's batty or not..lol
Again, without access to his military records we'll never know. Since he sealed them for all eternity, we'll never know.
Oh we'll find out. Sooner or
Oh we'll find out. Sooner or later he will die and the records will be opened and we will all be saying to rest of the brainwashed stay-the-coursers, "I told you so".
"It is like a finger pointing away to the moon, don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all the heavenly glory." - Bruce Lee
How much
are the paralyzed vets now getting from Iraq war? I bet not $58,000.00 a year!!! Are there any DAV's out that can attest to this?
Yes
Of course they get disability, based on rank and time in service. If you are a private when you get disabled, unfortunately your disability is based on your current pay grade. The higher your pay grade, the more money you make, and the more you would make from disability. It is actually a pretty simple concept. This holds true for Medical Retirement disability, which is different than regular disability.
We all can realize that
some one with two admirals as father and grandfather is worth much more than a grunt who gets his legs blown off rescuing his buddies.
Why in the world is John
Why in the world is John McCain collecting disability pay while he has been gainfully employed as a US Senator for 20+ years?
Isn't it considered to be some type of insurance fraud to say that you are disabled when you actually aren't?
THAT'S $4863/Month !!!!
Most retired Marine LtCol's don't even see that much a month!!! I am disgusted with this train wreck.
Not to mention 100% tax free
Not to mention 100% tax free (if I'm recalling the article right)! I mean, I don't dispute that the guy was injured, but that figure just seems exorbitant to me ... I dunno. I have a relative who is totally incapacitated and cannot work and she will never see a fraction of that. Perhaps the system is different for vets? The whole thing just rubs me the wrong way.
Did you all forget?
Ah, maybe you all missed the part where John MCcain was, ah, wait what was that, umm.. I know there was something.. oh yeah he was SHOT DOWN over north vietnam and tortured for like 5 years? In my book someone who volunteers to serve this country (regardless of the popularity of the war) and gets tortured for 5 years and gives up his youth and health to defend people who spit in his face deserves 50,000 a year, but maybe I am crazy.
Absofreekinglutely!!!
As a vet myself, 58K is the LEAST he should get for his lifelong pain and what he went thru in Nam.
I have MANY problems with McCrazy as a politician, but as a person, shit glad I didn't get shot down there.
Hmmm... I wonder if the
Hmmm... I wonder if the prisoners finally being released from Guantanamo bay after 5 years of torture are getting $60,000 a year from the US government...
WOW
I can not believe you are going to compare John McCain to enemy combatants who would not think twice about killing you and your entire family. Wow. I am just speechless. You should really rethink your allegiances. Maybe Bin Laden has some sort of medical retirement plan in place for these guys. Probably would be a back pack full of C4 and cell phone.
And it is probably costing more than 60k a year each to keep those terrorists there. Your tax money. Going to house people who want to fly airplanes into buildings. Nice.
I think I would much rather have my tax money go to pay Disabled American Veterans.
If you think burning down an aicraft carrier,
in case you aren't aware it was the Forrestal, causing the firey deaths of hundreds of your ship mates and having two Admirals help to clear you, one was his father the other his grandfather, isn't enough than you can look at how lousy a pilot he was to be shot down. Duhhhh. ya think perhaps he mighta been sent out of harms way? Oh no I'm just one of those crazies that think perhaps the puppeteers have been pulling our strings longer than we care to admitt. There was collusion in VietNam as well as there is today. They were well aware they had two admirals son as a captive but never capitalized on it. Makes me think of our current Commander in Chiefs record.
Ah... are you kidding?
SO McCain caused the fire on the Forrestal huh? Do you know ANYTHING about the fire on the Forrestal? Or are you just programmed to automatically bad mouth anyone who is not your favorite candidate? Look it up and you will see how much of an a** you made of yourself. I will help you out in case you are new to this whole "internet" thing, and this wonderful thing called google.
http://en.wikipedia.org/w...

Maybe you are crazy.
There are thousands of HOMELESS veterans in this country. There are people in this country who are disabled vets and dont see a fourth of that. Good Grief. You think McCain whose wife is a multi millionaire deserves to get that? So now we have a presidential candidate who is on disability?Paid by the taxpayers? A millionaire? Is he fit to serve the highest office in the land? I dont think so. Songbird McCain what a joke. You must be crazy, or a troll.
Disability Amount
The amount of Medical Retirement disability you get is based on your rank and time in service when you are medically retired and the extent of your disabilities. Anyone who was the same rank, and received the same injuries would get the exact same pay. No where when they calculate it is there a spot for "What rank is your daddy", or "are you rich?" He earned that disability and deserves every penny in my view, regardless of his, mine, or your political views.
There are people who get medically retired from the military for non combat injuries like back problems and knee problems and get disability. But having knee or back issues I am sure ranks a little lower compared to being a POW for 5 years.
MCCAIN A POW?
If that were the case, I would be willing to give him money out of my own pocket in the form of charity, but IT ISN'T THE CASE. McCain has been proven to sell out POW's. Check out the senate hearings for releasing POW records, "Spoiler alert" he was against it! Many also highly doubt he was ever tortured, they're no reports from fellow prison mates that he ever looked uncomfortable or dirty. If you think my opinion of McCain is bad, check out what VietnamVetsAgainst McCain have to say.
can you say
song bird! That bastard!
Not tortured?
So I guess he broke his own arms. And he looked REAL comfortable hobbling off the plane in crutches.
I am not here to say McCain is the best man for president, I am just taking issue with attacking a man that got his injuries doing something that most of America wouldn't have the intestinal fortitude to do. As for being a bad pilot because he got shot down, that is just a ridiculous statement. Anyone here a pilot? Anyone here have experience trying to evade a SAM or AAA? I didn;t think so.
Do You??? and more so were
Do You??? and more so were you there with McCanus and can vouch for these POW claims? You can irrefutably attest to McCanus's honor and duty as a soldier during Vietman? Yeah, I didn't think so.
"It is like a finger pointing away to the moon, don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all the heavenly glory." - Bruce Lee
Actually..
I can NOT believe we are questioning whether or not he was a POW, or tortured, or how he broke his arms, etc. There are many other things to not like about McCain other than his obviously honorable and selfless service to this country and his time as a POW.
The war
The economy
His conservatism or lack there of
Foreign Policy
There is tons of stuff there to work on. I came across this site because I followed links about the Disability story, and I hope the people who have posted on this story do not represent the majority of the people who support Ron Paul, whom from all I can tell is an honorable man.
I'm not questioning whether
I'm not questioning whether or not he served. I only question the manner in which service was performed.
http://www.vietnamveteran...
http://www.namvets.com/Re...
http://www.usvetdsp.com/m...
...but i digress
Since you are new to this site I suggest you keep reading and educate yourself on some of the other issues which led us here. As far as YOU can tell he is an honorable man but from where i and many others stand there is only question. Perhaps you should look into why people here have the outlook that they have. See what it is that you obviously do not.
If there is one thing i have learned from Dr.Paul it is that principle is 100%, 100% of the time. Guaranteed, every time. So, if a man is not honorable now, he never truly was to begin with. Try reading McCanus's timeline in reverse and when you get back to Vietnam tell me he is an honorable man.

Maybe, but definitely not the Presidency
Good luck troll,
Latinos for Ron Paul
So?
So someone with a disability can't be president? It is a good thing FDR isn't running for president today.
There is a huge difference
There is a huge difference between A disability and 100% disability! There is a HUGE difference between being in a wheel chair and having an "unknown" 100% disability..puleeeze..
Amen, it IS GOOD that FDR is not running, and not...
Because of his disability, either! He was one of the Presidents who respected our freedoms the least..(executve order no. 6102) just to name one -a ban on US citizens owning gold- and using federal spending(taxpayer money) to prime the economic pump. On those grounds and those ONLY he was one of our worst presidents. BTW Bush's Patriot Act being the oxymoron that it is qualifies him for the worst Presidents list too.
Libera me, let the truth break, what my fears make--Leslie Phillips
Funny.. but
FDR is consistently ranked number 2 or 3 or 4 on lists of U.S. Presidents. Hey no one said you ever had to agree with 100% of what a president does. And it is pretty naive to think you ever will. Anyone who does should go get their wool sheared.
