(Here is your Scoop!) What really happened at the Nevada GOP Convention....

Out Classed and Out of Options...

Politics is a never-ending game, which has little to no rules, and the rules that do exist can change at anytime. You can choose to start, or stop playing this game at anytime, but no matter how you play this game it comes down who has the most people who care.

On Saturday April 26th , 2008, in Reno Nevada, the Republican State convention came to order with a set agenda and rigged rules to basically give complete control of the Delegate process to the party. The original rules would have only allowed for a set list of people that could be chosen as a whole to represent the state. This slate was created by a small group of people and were never published, and even as we began the convention were not known.

This was the first attempt to keep complete control of the delegate selection process. After three hours of explaining how this was not representative of the convention as a body, the convention modified the delegate selection process to allow anyone to run for a national delegate position. Three would be chosen from each of the three Congressional District and twenty-two from the entire body by each person voting for twenty-two people.

It was lunch at that point in time, giving two hours for the next play to be planned. Upon reconvening from lunch at 2:27pm, no time was wasted to unfurl this plan, which was instead of breaking up into districts to make sure at least three from each one was elected, the party would be kind enough to move around arbitrarily alternates to delegate positions to ensure “a fair distribution”, even better we shouldn't vote for twenty-two people at large because that would take far to much time, but instead vote for only five. Which took anybody with an eighth grade math understanding to know this was intended to divide our vote by four because in order to vote for twenty people you needed four people now instead of one. So this just was obliterated by the convention getting over a 75% rejection vote.

At this time we split into three districts and began to vote on delegates, this only took about an hour and went rather smoothly in district three and one. District two was continually delayed because of a dispute of whether a printed ballot was acceptable or a handwritten one was, somehow handwritten equals easier to handle to the those that ran the voting for district two. After this we came back and began to debate planks on the floor.

It was two hours in the making, the start of which was a person coming from the count room of the 2nd Congressional District of Nevada, which was the last of three districts to be counted. From our count observers in the rooms of Congressional District's 1 and 3, Paul Supporters had won all three delegates spots in District 3 and one Paul supporter in District 1. The counts of these districts took about 30 minutes after voting was completed. The 2nd District was taking very long to complete and no one could understand the delay of more then an hour, information from observers within its count room relayed that Paul Supporters had swept its three delegates as well. This meant that Paul Supporters took 7 out of 9 possible Congressional District delegates to the National Convention.

The person walking from the counting room took a straight line to State Chairwoman Sue Lowden, leaning over and whispering into her ear. After the person walked off Sue sat there for about 30 seconds tapping her foot and then stood up and walked over to Commissioner Woodbury who was sitting in front of me, leaning over she said, "If we can break Quorum, can we invalidate this?" After saying this rather loudly and glancing at the expression on my face she quickly quieted down and I was unable to hear the rest of the conversation.

I sat in a dazed confusion for about five minutes trying to figure out what quorum was in this convention of 1347 delegates, which was 674 delegates. Soon after Chairwoman Lowden left, a John McCain staffer, Paul Jackson, came by. I had been gathering signs and information from him all day, and he believed I was a hardcore McCain supporter. He came up to me and got on one knee as if to propose his undying love. He began his conversation with, "They are trying to pull a coup, we are going to leave and quarter the convention." I responded, "Do we even have the numbers, all they need is a couple hundred to keep Quorum?" He answered back, "The powers that be have the numbers, I am just doing what I was told to do by my boss." At this moment I knew that they had lost control of the convention and were desperate. About an hour went by before they finally figured out they did not have enough people to pull off this little stunt.

I watched the party officers directly in front of me huddling up with the parliamentarian and trying to come up with something. Soon after this huddle, the party began to filibuster the convention filling it with videos and speakers over a course of 60 minutes. During this time Sue Lowden began barking at Chairman Bob Beers, and I could clearly see Chairman Beers not agreeing with what she was telling him. First it was just her talking to him, then after going on and off stage to present the next video or speaker, three people gathered around him, by the fourth time he stepped off the stage, eight people were surrounding and pressuring him, which I can only assume was to end the convention, being that was the next thing that happened when he returned to the stage.

When he returned to the stage for the last time, Chairman Beers ended the convention illegally calling an indefinite recess without a vote of the delegation to do so, at 6 pm. This was not before their first plan of ending the convention was attempted to be put into play by a member that was not informed calling for a Quorum which we would still have had. But Beers interrupted him saying, "I will save you some time", and called the indefinite recess. Later it was claimed to be the end of the contract of the room. But upon request from the Hotel they gladly gave us three more hours for free.

After five second of pure silence, disbelief, and confusion, a once consistently civil and controlled convention was thrown into ten minutes of anarchy, while the party vacated the room out the back doors. Bob Bears attempted to speak with an angry mob with little to no avail before leaving.
After this occurred we attempted to reconvene the meeting but fell 70 people short of a quorum.

This series of events leaves me with the understanding that the opinions and concerns of how Nevada Republicans want our government to work, do not matter. The only concern is that we fuel the inner party through our donations. Am I to understand that the people of Nevada are to have no representation and take marching orders from the Republican National Committee, that is two thousand miles away? To accept whatever they tell us, even if it is to support a man that never came to Nevada or would even agree to a conference call to discuss local positions on things such as Yucca Mountain. We know nothing about his positions that would affect the state in which we are to represent as delegates. When asked to come and talk before the January Caucasus, his Clark County staffer told us that he was not concerned with Nevada and would pick up delegates in May if he needed them. So we as a state are supposed to bow down and support a man who does not support our state?

We must complete a process of debate and discussion until we complete the National Delegate process. Being dictated to from people two thousand miles away is reminiscent of some of the central causes of the beginning of our great nation. So like a spoiled child the Nevada GOP officers, after being out played and without any other options they just kicked over the table and went home.

I heard there was

a Meetup Group meeting tonight w/ Bernie Zadrowski, the Chairman of the Clark County Republican Party. I wonder how that went.

I think you had better think

I think you had better think about striking while the fire is hot. What are they thinking as to 're-certify' the delegates? Look out who are your friends and allies????

Contact Bob Beers, corrupt behavior will not be tolerated!

Thousands of young American solders are dieing over seas for supposed freeman, so Bob Beers can practice his kind corrupt politics. At this point he's attempting to lie to save face, time to smear this rotten name.

Every one needs to call him (702-592-8822) and let him know our solders are NOT DIEING for his kind of corrupt freedom!

Question

Outstanding job in Nevada ! For future battles..could the people left have voted to replace this chairman as he walked out w/o an adjournment ?

NV

Oh, how we tried...but no quorum. Anyone involved in an upcoming convention....do not leave the ballroom under any circumstance if something similiar happens at your event, unless the fire marshall orders you out :) Since the official GOP personnel seemed to be in business attire, which still seems to garner "respect for authority," you might want to consider doing the same, so you are not as readily identifiable. Make sure you know the RP reps and leaders in your districts/counties/ and as Dr. Parent suggests, study the rules. Add to that, study your state GOP meeting rules as well.

I sure wish we knew if any of our hard work that day was going to be counted....we had the votes, and they knew it. We also had an approved and very desirable platform...hope it does not disappear from the records. Last little tip, assume nothing and watch those you know and trust to lead.

Yes, but you need a quorum.

Yes, but you need a quorum.

My understanding is they

did not need a quorum because the way the meeting was recessed. I have not seen the tape as of yet, but is it adjourned or was it recessed, they did not get a vote from the floor o do either.

Yes, but you need a quorum.

Romney? Say its not so!

I read your entertaining tale about those events in Nevada above, but then I read this below: http://www.politicallore....

It says Romney won 51%, Ron Paul with 13% and McCain with 13%..... say what? Did the GOP convention meet up again? What happened?

Someone please explain... dazed and confused here....

great job

I could not be more proud. we have to fight no matter what!!

Convention still unadjourned

It is quite simple and practical... an illegal (RROO) recess was called; everyone has walked out, and the meeting has not been adjourned nor has it been completed. Gather your quorum, since you would have had it at the time of the "indefinite recess" had 20 or so of RP delegates not walked out also. Gather together, replace the chair who has vacated and is absent, complete the convention process, and certify the whole including the national delegates, to the national GOP committee! Have injunctions handy, against disturbance, ready to be signed by either Superior court judge, or Federal, since there is much involved which creates jurisdiction.

Hope you do not mind, but all Americans need to help nevada righ

t now, by contacting the guy in the video ed.pearce@kolotv.com about the nevada chaos. We need to stand up for those delegates.

Dear Mr. Pearce:

I was wondering if you knew that the GOP had the Peppermill's Tuscany BallRoom for two days, Saturday and Sunday. I contacted several employees and they confirmed the Republican National Convention was happening for two days. Paperwork went out confirming the same thing.

I was wondering if you had been curious as to why the rumor of paying a person $70,000 to organize this event and why Senator Bob Beers did not choose to reconvene on Sunday?
I have noticed that in Texas, Montana, Missouri, and other states they have their state convention set up for two and three days.

Would it not cost a lot more money to reschedule such an event? Does this cost us the taxpayers? Senator Bob Beers has stated that it would have cost a lot more money to keep the stage hands, videographers, etc. What about the cost to the delegates that are representing the people of our state, is this not an enormous burden on them as well? However, I feel that it would cost a lot more for a do-over event. Why were the preceedings not finished?

I thought as a journalist you would be interested to finding some of these things out and reporting them to the public. We the People would like to know.

Thank you for all your forthright reporting for all these years.

Sincerely,

An a American.

Instead of donating to

the Democratic party, why not use your resources to help a pro-liberty cndidte win a congressional seat in Nevada? Chris Dyer needs our help. Carrying a grudge around for Beers or supporting anti-liberty cndidates out of spite does us no good. Supporting the right people does.

A letter to Bob Beers:

Bob Beers, I am an outsider and live in Montana where we have 22 UNBOUND DELEGATES. I am going to be frank and speak some "common sense" to you.

Realistically, we KNOW that regardless if ALL the delegates from Nevada & Montana were to go to Ron Paul (without struggle), that it would NOT make a twit difference to the outcome of the Presidential Republican nomination. I think you can agree on this point. However, you MAY have received a directive from the National GOP to stop Americans who support the honorable Congressman Ron Paul from going to the convention, so that he will not be able to participate or speak, thereby being seen as a "disrupter".

Here is the COMMON SENSE I have to you. The NATIONAL MEDIA will be covering the convention, right? What makes you think that they will be kind to Ron Paul, even if he does speak? In fact, the MORE the GOP fights this, the BADDER they look. You & I both know how gracious Dr. Paul is and how tactful he is, agree? What makes you think he'd be a rabblerouser? He has shown NOTHING, and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in his prior behavior for the GOP to fear anything about.

FINALLY, your State GOP, in their effort to lambast & oust Americans who want to be delegates for Ron Paul, will alienate the VERY PEOPLE who could be of GREAT VALUE in getting other State seats elected. But, if the State GOP can't see the value of this kind of enthusiam, I am truly disappointed. Harness this enthusiasm is what I say!!

It won't make a twit of difference in the outcome of the National GOP! Take courage in hand and DO THE RIGHT THING.

BOTH Nevada and Montana SOMEDAY will look back on this period in our history and reveal that those rebellers at the time---were right.

ALSO, John McCain has NO CHANCE OF WINNING nationally. The country is far, far, far too anxious about ending the war in Iraq and the pending intentions to invade Iran. Even though Obama & Clinton, both, will, imho, support an invasion into Iran, the public does not comprehend that now.

For what it's worth, these are my "common sense" thoughts. I would recommend NO diplomacy here. I would recommend you encourage a nomination list of delegates that are 100% for Congressman Ron Paul. Believe me, this will not hurt the GOP. If anything, it will show tolerance and kindheartedness. And, the national GOP can emphasize and embrace the platforms of Ron Paul specifically that they support.

You may want to change...

"BADDER" to "worse".

Dirty tricks only beginning!

They are going to try to regroup in such a way as to defeat Ron Paul supporters! They will either not call back all the RP people, or give them such short notice that the farther away people can not make it, or they will show up with many more McCain people! We need to bring all our forces to the next meeting! Even if they can not get in, surround the next convention with all the meetup groups outside protesting!

Hannity in Reno

Driving home from having lunch with my husband, Hannity's radio show happened to be on. Now, I can't stand Hannity, but I had left our local AM station on from the morning swap-shop show. Anyhow, I heard Hannity say hat he was appearing in Reno this Friday, May 2. My first thought was that this was an attempt by the powers that be to garner more support for McCain. I could be wrong, but I live near to Reno and I've never heard of Hannity visiting Reno before, so the timing seems a bit fishy to me. Any thoughts?

Convention Reconvene

If and when and wherever it resumes, we've all got to be there. Look at it as an investment in our future...in our kids' future and in the country's future. We are not the apathetic ones...we are energized and right makes might. If possible, even more supporters than turned up on Saturday need to turn up and polititely, yet firmly, stand on our principles and the great efforts which were already made before the "recess" as a show of support and strength. Every single delegate we can elect shows our determination to represent the will and desires of the people of Nevada. For some, this might very well cause some financial difficulty, but if at all possible....find a way, please. I'll be there so long as I get at least a few hours notice...with liberty bells on!

IT'S DOABLE

Thank you RB.

Great to know there are such fine people in Nevada fighting for our freedom. Awesome report, by far the best info on the convention I have read.

The best by far.

The best by far.

To hear about

some of the backroom deals going on and the delegate that stood for what's right at great personal risk, check out the video posted here:

I for one will be donating to the campaign of

Bob Beers opponent Democratic or not. We can't continue to allow individuals like this to hide behind their charade of democracy that just perpetuates the limiting of our choices. Taxpayers monies were used in the primary election and if this attempt to change the rules and thwart a legitimate effort by individuals to play by the rules and succeed then perhaps the talk of criminal actions on their part isn't too far fetched. One of the primary parts of the RICO statutes is interstate commerce and communication. Only problem is trying to get a U.S. attorney involved. You'd see McCain endorse Dr. Paul before that would happen. Perhaps the local D.A. might consider looking into the possibility that individuals were coerced into the breaking of the law (if any were actually broken) by someone communicating across state lines.

"democrat or not" I like that

we may not always see eye to eye with everyone- but people who can say "its not what I want-but the majority needs to rule- regardless" are the people we need in office. I would likely vote this man over an opportunist "RP republican" coasting into the nomination on the drs coattails. If all the dems were like Kucinich and all the repubs were like Ron Paul- there'd be alot less gridlock.

God Bless America

And the good citizens that refuse to be ruled by party bureaucrats. The entire NV delegation has shown our children how true patriots act. This once great nation will only survive if these patriots’ actions are repeated in every county, and every state all the way to Minneapolis.
Thank you for the inspiration.

Liberty = Responsibility

Only the Beginning

I think things are only going to go downhill from here in regard to the tactics used by the Republicans and "powers that be". These are very powerful people who have a lot to lose if Ron Paul should win.

That being said, I believe is an even more powerful God who not only created this world but maintains it to this day. I cannot be involved directly in these political battles (for many reasons), but my wife and I will continue to pray that:

  • That evil men and their lies would be shown for what they truly are by Light of Truth.
  • That God would continue to protect Ron Paul and his brave supporters
  • That there will be a revival in our country that would spark a revolution in the hearts of Americans.

If you are unable to take a physically active role in this campaign, I urge you to join in me in daily prayer.

I have heard it said that for Ron Paul to win the nomination that it would take a miracle. Fortunately, as a believer in God and the resurrected Jesus Christ, I believe in them. ;-)

I am joining you in those daily prayers

With our confessing our nation's sins and the sins of our leaders, we may get God's mercy and that miracle.

I will join you as well

Pray for your leaders that you may lead a quiet and peaceful life.

NEVADA RP SUPPORTERS REPRESENT!!!!

Damn, I'm charged up after reading about and watching what happened in NV over the weekend.

You guys and gals in NV simply kick A$$!!! Keep it up!

Remember Reno!

The neocons may or may not succeed in thwarting the will of the party this year, but if they succeed this time, let this be the rallying cry for the Ron Paul Republicans in Nevada.

It needs to be made very clear to any Republican office holder in Nevada that pulling this kind of stunt WILL cost them at the ballot box, and have a major impact on their campaign financing.

Take up the slogan: Ron Paul Republicans are the REAL Republicans.

"I Don't Think Anyone Can Question My Patriotism" - Ron Paul M.D.

We live in Vegas!

Just to note, I just posted this article. My brother, Richard experienced these events in the article and created it on our flight home from Reno on Sunday. I just posted it where it needed to be for all to see. We in Nevada are all waiting to see how the NV GOP plays their next card. Since the only reason to stop the convention was to give the GOP more time to figure out how not to lose every At-Large Delegate. Which will happen if all things remain fair. The result will be Ron Paul with 29 delegates and McCain will get 5 delegates......3 of which are like super delegates we could not change.

Thank You, RCB

Excellent writing as well.
