Logic: FAIL

How do you deal with people who simply refuse to think? I am weary of hearing people respond to Dr. Paul's explanation of blowback with outcries of "Ron Paul blames Americans!! He says it's our fault!!"

I haven't heard it myself, so I don't know the details, but I understand Obama's preacher has recently spoken some pointed words, that are proving to be unpopular for reasons similar to why Paul's blowback message is unpopular with some.

I don't get this.

When the CEOs of a large firm do something heinously corrupt, and such things are publicly pointed out and disparaged, do people assume that any stated remarks against the CEOs is the same as slighting the non-CEO employees of that firm, either individually or collectively?

In the Enron scandal, the news broke about the CEOs, and everyone was talking about how corrupt those executives were. Does that mean that everyone, then, was also blaming the secretary in cube 3A on the 5th floor? Or the mid-level managers in some obscure department? Or the janitorial staff, or even upper management not involved in any way with the scandal? Was there ever any outcry of, "When you disparage Enron, you're attacking and blaming all their employees!!"?

If so, I've never heard about it.

Why do people "get it" when big companies -- and their employees! -- suffer due to CEO greed and buffoonery, and feel free to talk all about the misguided leadership of those firms, while holding harmless the employees of the company-at-large...

...but when the same thing happens when discussing poor governmental leadership, then suddenly, cries of "you're blaming the citizens" ring out?

By this "logic", the U.S. has disparaged and blamed all citizens under the regimes of Hitler, Stalin, Chairman Mao, Saddam Hussein, and...

...well, you know.

The scariest part: these people who equate blaming our government's leadership with blaming our country's people, do not see (and I suspect, don't want to see) the failure of their logic.

Ignorance + jingoism = easy sheep

Do you think

the president of the United States should be a veteran? At least have served in the reserves?

Veteran in order to be Cmdr-in-Chief?

Wait, are you asking me, or are you asking JustComeHome?

For a long time, I thought that, yeah, the Commander-in-Chief probably should have some military experience. Heck, he's in charge of the troops!
Tthrough my recent studies, though, I think I'm coming more to the thought that it may be better to have a "civilian" CIC. Why?

Because there are plenty of generals and top military brass drooling to convince the CIC that war is necessary. A veteran CIC may (note I said "may") be more predisposed to a military solution to conflict, when a civilian CIC may (same notation) be more inclined to try to find a peaceful solution.

Our second president didn't win a second term in office. He did, however, stand fast against the warmongers surrounding and advising him, and he was successful in fending off what had appeared to be certain war. I don't know if that would have happened, had he considered the issue from a personal military mindset.

I just tell them that

I just tell them that criminals like Bush, Cristol, Cheney, Rumsfeld etc aren't America or Americans. They are Nazi sympathyzers who avoided service to this great country and now plan on destroying it.

perhaps they are feeling guilty

I understand your point and I agree. You make a good analogy. However, we are all somewhat to blame by electing the fools who got us into this mess and by not starting the revolution sooner.
Also, I suspect those that take the greatest offense are those that supported the warmongers and therefore are now feeling guilty and complicit. Alternatively, there are those who truly are sheeple and feel powerless to do anything and if they were thinking people who could understand they would be out there fighting the good fight instead of absorbing their outrage from the talking heads on TV.

On "Hating"

If I look at my car and decide that it needs painted, does that mean I hate my car?

If I look at my house and see that it needs a new roof, does that mean I blame the house first?

I really can not understand why some people believe that diagnosing a problem and presenting possible solutions makes one a "hater."

Wonderful analogies! Thank you so much! I am always going to remember these, and use them --- with your permission, of course!

Behavior Modification

I have a degree in Behavior Analysis - the same method used in the Bourne movies.

Public humiliation is the best method of quick change... after all who among you out there still fart in public?

American could use a good dose of humiliation.

I fart in public!

I'm not so stuck up as to think my poo doesn't stink. If i've got gas to pass I let it ring, and anyone who tries to belittle me for it get's from me a big smile and a hearty laugh, and I just tell them "You make your fun, but I smile more than you do."

I wear my Ron Paul shirts in public too, and my Constitution shirt. And if someone belittles me for it, they get from me a big smile and a hearty laugh, and I tell them, "You make your fun, but I'm a free man, and you're a sheep."

~I will never again accept the lesser of two evils.~

I only fart in public when

I only fart in public when nobody is close by --- but did you ever notice that if you fart in an empty grocery store aisle, some lady (it's always a lady) will IMMEDIATELY turn the corner and stop RIGHT next to where you did it? I call it "Akak's Law of Universal Flatulence Attraction".

Misconstrued

That was not what I was trying to say... Funny?... yes... accurate? no.

This is about how to wake up people. Not about people already awake...

They are brain washed

we can't get to angry with them because they can not grasp reality.
