Just got recalled
I just got my letter today notifying me that I must report for screening to determine if I can be recalled or not. Basically it's a formality, I have been recalled.
I have no gripe with this, I knew it was a possibility when I signed up, but it sure sucks.
Since I got out in 2006 I have been going to school full time and have maintained a 4.0 gpa. I am getting married this weekend and my first child is expected no later than June 5. I might not even be here when he's born. It just kinda sucks.
I'm wondering if anyone else out there got a USMC recall recently or knows someone that has.

Before you decide
on your plan of action you should take into account that the powers that be, posers though they are, aren't ignoring the possibility that many on the recall list will attempt to do as you have stated. They won't allow this to happen. The shortage of troops is going to make them desperate and if any one gets on their radar they and their lackey court system will be more than happy to make an example of you. Step carefully and I would suggest talking to an attorney before I would even tip my hand about an educational deferment or more particularly if you decide to go the constitutional route.
I agree, but....
Let me tell you a little story. I spent nearly 7 years in the navy out of my 22 total years, combined USAF/ANG/USN. Even then, the Navy had an unethical policy that prevented you from rotating off a ship unless you had enough enlistment time to complete a shore tour. The only shore tour they'd offer me was instructor school, which I didn't want. However, I told them I'd grudgingly take instructor school if they would make the tour two years instead of three. The Navy agreed, cut me orders for a two year hitch at Navy Electronics School in Norfolk, and I accepted the orders. Thirteen months into the tour, the Navy told me I'd have to extend my enlistment a year for the full 3 year tour. I contacted JAG. The Navy then said I either had to extend or they would ship me to New London, CT. The JAG officer told them, if they did that, they could only ship me to New London for the 11 months I had left on my enlistment. The US Navy backed down. No guts, no glory. I stuck my neck out identifying myself and facing possible prosecution under the UCMJ (the government can do that to retirees) to offer this Marine encouragement. If I can do that for a stranger, but fellow warrior, the least he can do is listen to me.
The way I see it, Marine, you have two choices. You can go back to Iraq, violate international law, probably kill innocent people or get yourself killed, then face future war crimes charges after the Fed crashes the dollar and ruins the country. Or, Marine, you can fulfill your sworn oath to "support and defend the Constitution..." and risk harassment, even jail from a corrupt government.
The choice is yours. Only the dead don't face risks.

Seek asylum in Finland. Our president (a lawyer, although a socialist one) has declared the Iraq war and the occupation illegal so you should have success in making a plea directly to her.

I'm a retired Master Sergeant (22 years, USAF [you Marines work too hard]), who volunteered at 17, five days out of high school, to go to Vietnam and "kill commies". I still hate communism; but then, I naively believed the SEATO treaty enabled the US to fight in Vietnam without a Constitutional declaration of war. You and I took an oath "...to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign AND domestic." There's nothing in there about helping our government attack, invade and occupy another country without provocation. Secretary General Annan admitted the US violated the UN Charter by our actions, which constitute "crimes against humanity." So, here's what I suggest. You contact an attorney or paralegal (the antiwar organizations should help) and draft a letter, stating you will NOT execute ANY unlawful order (that action violates the UCMJ), including deploying, supporting deployment or providing any logistics support to our present illegal operations in Iraq. Reference the Lt. Wataba case; as, in it the government tacitly admitted our present operations in Iraq are illegal, and could subject you and other military forces to war crimes prosecution.
I bet your recall orders will be canceled.

Thank you!
I wish nothing but to have you see you child born. It is atrocious that you be recalled! You and your family have my love and support. I am not a man of means, but you and yours have my undying support. If there is anything that we, as a community, can do....well, you know the rest.

I'm a retired Master Sergeant with 22 years. I joined the Air Force (You marines work too hard) when I was 17, five days out of high school, because I hate communism and I believed our efforts in Viet Nam were both honorable and legal. I knew Congress had circumvented the Constitution, but I believed then, naively, that we could go to war under the SEATO (Southeast Asia Treaty Organization) treaty. I feel I am qualified to remind you of your obligation to "support and defend the Constitution". Does that oath you took willingly say ANYTHING about supporting the government? Secretary General Annan admitted the UN Charter does not support our actions in Iraq. Therefore, this war is illegal and those who participate are war criminals. My advice to you is to contact an attorney or paralegal (the antiwar organizations can help you) and draft a letter to your recall authority, in which you state, "Under my responsibilities to the UCMJ, I will NOT execute an unlawful order. This means I will not deploy, assist deployment or provide logistics support to the illegal operation in Iraq. You might document this by referring the mistrial of Lt. I'll bet you won't be recalled.

Nice!
I'm a Master Sergeant myself! :) Nice to see another on here!
I listened to an interesting discussion the other day, about changing the pledge of allegiance to reflect allegiance to the Constitution, instead of simply pledging allegiance to the flag. I think this definitely needs to be pushed for. I realize this has nothing to do with the oath of enlistment, but it is somewhat relevant.

file for tinnitus (ringing in the ear). it's an easy 10% disability. at your audiology exam they will ask you if the ringing is present at that moment. say yes. they'll ask you when it started. give them a date you were deployed or at a shooting range. something like that.
the higher your % the less the government will want you back.
Man, I'm sorry
I've been active duty for nearly 17 years, and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm pretty sure that I'll be deployed before my time is up, and I totally disagree with what is going on. Check this out, I just found this the other day. I talk about Ron Paul with everyone, even though we aren't supposed to politick at work...and I put up a blown up pic of me shaking hands with him under a Ron Paul for President bumper sticker on the wall of my desk at work.
Good luck.

Put him up front!!!
Isn't the oath of office
the same for military? Couldn't you become a freedom fighter by standing up if you do get recalled and say that you feel the mission you are being asked to participate in is in violation of your oath? Seems like someone in the military needs to stand up. Congrats on the baby btw.
be safe okay?
and never forget -you guys are always in our prayers and we wont shut up til youre home.
We'll get you back as soon as we can
In the mean time, if you do go, see if you can figure out a way to make the voices of the military heard loud and clear for Ron Paul. See if they can think of a way to get on TV promoting Dr. Paul. Stay safe.
honey
you stay safe as you can,,,,congratulations on marriage and baby,,,we ll think of you and keep you and all the other soldiers there in our prayers
I am seriously out of words
I wish you all the best but this is just shocking for me. Hope for President Ron Paul

see if you can claim fraud to keep from going
i was reading a comment on huffington post; someone in same shoes as you -- said his papers said something to the effect of "duty to serve country & defend against 9/11 attacks " -- or some language to that effect.
essentially, you're being called to serve on a mission that has proven fraudulent. iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. so if our military is STILL being called to fight a battle in iraq, in response to 9/11, isn't the govt guilty of fraud?
It says...
"Per the authority contained in references (a) and (b), you are being considered for recall to active duty in support for the Global War on Terrorism..."
The letter I have received doesn't specifically say anything 9/11 but it is easily arguable that fighting in Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism. Unless of course you consider what we're doing as terrorism.

You have a family, and a little one you need to take care of, don't endanger your life for such a stupid and illegal war. You truly are a patriot for stepping up and be willing to go into such a dangerous endeavor, but sit down and think what you're about to do. Stay.

Can you get an academic deferrment?
What about a medical deferrment for the kid?
Are you allergic to anything that might show up in the military vaccines?
BTW, congrats on both the nuptials and the kid. Make sure you decline him a SSN and all early vaccines. You can always ernoll/enslave him in that system later if needed.
Thanks
I'm IRR, I have 2 years left on that. I'm putting together an education package now that will more than likely get me exempt.

Thanks, I'll definitely look into that. I am actually on my way up to the school to get my letter from the Dean of Students and for my exemption package. Seems I can claim an educational hardship and it's a pretty simple package. The Sgt I spoke to and explained my situation to said it was pretty likely I'd get voted exempt by the 5 member board.
I also called up an old friend of mine from the Corps who was known as the master of getting out of things. I directed me towards to VA also. I've got an appointment Wednesday with my doctor for back pain that I have been too proud to ever get looked at.
Regardless of what happens I am not filing back in line like the sheep I was. They are going to find a very different individual among their ranks.
