The Patriot's Pledge
The Patriot’s Pledge
I pledge allegiance to the Constitution
of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it creates;
One nation of sovereign states;
by the consent of the governed;
with liberty and justice for all.
Pledge of Allegiance
Many are not aware that the Pledge of Allegiance was written Francis Bellamy, a national socialist who was against state sovereignty. As a socialist he was also opposed to the American ideal of individual liberty. The ideal that the state exists to serve the individual and to protect the liberties of all its citizens. As a socialist Bellamy believed that individual citizen exists to serve the state.

Like most every freedom loving American, I love this country that was created and brought to life by the US Constitution.
Since the creation of the United States we have built many national monuments, identified a national symbol, the Bald Eagle, and created the US Flag and many other symbols of America.
Somewhere along the way Americans were led to pledge their allegiance to flag. The flag is a great rallying banner of America, the Eagle is a great symbol of America, the White house, Washington Memorial and Jefferson Memorial are great national monuments, but none of these are worthy of our pledge our allegiance. Ask 100 people what the flag means and you will get 100 different answers. As a result, the flag has no objective meaning. It is everything to everyone. To a socialist the flag represents socialism, to a communist, the flag represents communism. As a result the flag becomes all things to all people and nothing to anyone but an inspiring symbol.
I would not pledge allegiance to the eagle, pledge allegiance to Washington Monument ot the Jefferson memorial, even though I deeply revere Jefferson, and it does not make sense to pledge allegiance to the flag.
Even soldiers when they are sworn into the military do not swear to defend the flag. They swear to defend the US Constitution. They may defend the flag in combat because it is an identifiable rallying point. But in reality the are defending their position that is identified by the flag and when they are defending the flag they are in reality defending their entrenched position.
The same oath applies to every congressman, senator, federal judge, Supreme Court justice and even the President. All swear to defend the Constitution and none take an oath to defend the flag or allegiance to the flag.
Don't get me wrong, I have great reverence for the flag, and our monuments, and our nations symbols but they are only symbols of America. My allegiance is not to a symbol or a thing.
The US Constitution however is not a symbol and not a "thing" per se but a written, objective embodiment of the American ideal. It is the life of America, it is America.
Thus, the Constitution is what I Pledge my Allegiance. I not only pledge my Allegiance to the Constitution but like to oath taken by all defenders of this nation, swear to defend it against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
As a result, I am teaching my children when others in the class stand to say the pledge, to say The Patriots Pledge.
I hope you will think deeply and encourage your children to do the same. Look forward to your thoughts.
