Ron Paul to Speak at Montana State Republican Convention
ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Texas Republican congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul is scheduled to speak at the Montana State Republican Party Convention on June 20th.

“Congressman Paul has generated a lot of support in Montana and we look forward to him coming to our state,” said Jake Eaton, executive director of the Montana Republican Party. “There is an unprecedented level of excitement across the spectrum of the Republican Party and Congressman Paul’s visit will add to that.”

“Dr. Paul excites tremendous passion with the people of Montana who are hungry for personal freedom and constitutional government,” added campaign spokesman Jesse Benton.

The Montana Republican Party State Convention will be held June 19th-21st, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Missoula. Paul came in second place behind Mitt Romney in the February 5th Montana Republican Presidential Preference Caucus with 25% of the vote.

I just wanted to make clear

I just wanted to make clear that altho I feel support for Dr Paul is strong here in Montana, we are also facing adversities. For example, I know that one county's GOP is so far claiming all their delegates were elected last year....I'll give ya a second to chew on that one....
In our county, at the caucus in Feb, I heard about a prominent member of our GOP central committee asking around about how to get all of us that were standing in the parking lot that night with our big RP signs to just go away. Fortunately, she was told that we had a right to be there and that since we seemed to be peaceful, we should even be allowed inside of the building (the temps were sub-zero that night). This is the same woman who when I called her before the caucus to try to get her to support RP, she told me that altho she liked Dr Paul's principles, she thought he was unelectable...and she doesn't vote based on principle, she votes based on electability. I questioned her about that (cuz I was shocked) and yes, she will not vote based on her principles. (She holds an office that she was elected to and I had to bite my tongue so as not to tell her that in my opinion She had just become unelectable).
In a nutshell, we have adversities to overcome in every state it seems and if someone wants to help get the message spread here in Montana, that help would be deeply appreciated. I do feel like Dr Paul has the potential to win in a landslide here....I still have never seen a mccain sign or bumper sticker anywhere in this state and because of my involvement in this election season, I've been traveling far outside of my area.

We're doing a letter writing campaign and I've heard of at least one phone bank springing up. We need to get the word out about this and yes, make it a convention no one can ignore or will ever forget. Dr Paul has a strong chance of taking this state...we need to capitalize on the existing support which is impressive imho. I would love to be confident in the knowledge that every single voter in Montana has at least seen a copy of his voting record. On Sept 30, 2007, at approximately 2 pm, I saw his voting record posted in a comments section at digg. Less than 24 hours later, I was a meetup member working on a letter writing campaign. His voting record is powerful to view.

Ron Paul at the Montana Convention

I sincerely hope that Mr. Eaton and Mr. Benton are sincere in their welcome...perhaps, unlike Nevada, even put up a banner or two for Ron Paul! Please refer to my post under the subject line: "Ron Paul Campagin Dominates Nevada GOP Convention" I am excited for the people of Montana.

IT'S DOABLE

Western RP support strong

There's large and growing support for Dr. Paul and freedom, in general, out West. Several of the Rocky mountain states had picked Mitt, and now those delegates are mostly "un-committed" and free to vote as they choose at the convention. Ron Paul may have hundreds of "like-minded" delegates that show up at the national.

It ain't over till it's over! Go Ron Paul!

Montana Primary, too!

Thanks, JohnGalt300. Montana also has a Primary Election for the general population, June 3rd; Ron Paul is on our Ballot vs McCain. Registered voters who applied will be receiving Absentee Ballots in the mail May 5th -12th. Voter registration deadline: May 5th. We are an "Open" Primary State. Goooooooooo Ron Paul GO!

Could you explain this in more detail?

"open primary"

I think it means you can vote regardless of how you are registered. So you can take a D ballot or an R ballot. This is because the primary doesn't matter; it's a straw poll (taken at taxpayer expense). I think.

The parties choose the nominee. They are private organizations and make their own rules. They can use the information collected from the election, or not.

California tried to force the parties to let voters choose the nominee (the law is still on the books), but, the LPC (Libertarian Party of California) won in court: a party is a private organization and has a right, protected by the Constitution, to decide who they nominate (freedom of association). This makes sense; you wouldn't force the Democrats to nominate someone who wants to establish a national dress-code just because enough voters liked the idea.

This is why one must work through the delegate process. The parties don't have to go with what the popular vote is, in choosing nominees.

In this case, an open primary means that Ron Paul's supporters from among the independents and Democrats can vote for him. It also means that McCain supporters may not bother to vote, or could vote for one of the others. It's just a chance to get numbers in the headlines.

ok...

I was confused, because I knew the caucuses already happened. So the state takes a non-binding preference poll of everyone? That seems rather pointless.
