NY 21 - Steven Vasquez for Congress
by Steven Vasquez
We are campaigning for Congress in the NY 21st District as a Ron Paul Republican, with an open seat from a retiring incumbent. This race is very open. My goal for the campaign are 2 fold:
1) To have this district's people properly represented by a Constitutional abiding citizen who believes in Limited and Responsible Government, fiscally conservative with other people's money, sound Austrian economic monetary policy, and who works for the people, not the government or special interests.
2) Continue the education of the 21st district (and surrounding counties still in the media market) of the real priorities facing our country from the failing dollar and David Walker's warning of economic collapse to bringing our troops home from around the war to rebuild our economy.
Strategic Position
The campaign is in a competitive race in the NY 21st district, where McNulty, the incumbent announced his retirement late in the season, opening up the biggest opportunity in 20 years to gain this seat. While the district leans Democrat, the district overwhelmingly voted for Pataki for Governor in his race. There are 170K registered Democrats, 120K Republicans, and 130K Independents/Undeclared, which allows for a wide swing. In neighboring NY 20th district, Democrat Gillibrand won the district, even though the Republican majority is a greater ratio than the Democrat majority in the 21st. There are 8 democrats fighting it out tooth and nail for their primary, which will be bloody and cause a split among Democrats. The other Republican loaned himself $100K and said he will not put anymore money in. If the campaign can prove to raise $200K in the next few months, he may even choose to let us take the nomination without needing to primary.
Thank you.

I guess I'll make a donation since he's a Ron Paul Republican and a fellow Rensselaer Polytechnic graduate.
Has Vasquez been endorsed by Ron Paul?

"Austrian" sounds un-American
Just a comment about communicating ideas: We who have studied economics, know what he means, but when speaking to the general public, one must find better ways to convey the message.
Maybe "Economics without using guns," is too simplistic, but there must be something in-between.
IMissLiberty
Good point. I suggest just replacing 'Austrian economics'
with "staunch free-market economics"!
Cause that's what it is.
You could also throw something like "...influenced by Mises, Rothbard, Hazlitt."
Good to see
Good to see a Ron Paul Republican running in the district I'm in. I would like to see a more thorough list of his positions on his website though.

Yeah, I'd like to hear a little more. What about the Fed, and the income tax, for instance?
