What can be done about Medved's lies?

I happened to turn on Michael Medved's show for about 1 minute today (since I can hardly stomach the hypocrisy in general) and there was a caller who was asking about the gold standard. Medved's response was roughly as follows:

Medved: You must support Ron Paul.
Caller: No, I don't.
Medved: Well, maybe we shouldn't have gone off the gold standard, but to suddenly return to it is a very bad idea. And Ron Paul has just written a book called "Revolution: A Manifesto," and the whole book is about returning to the gold standard.

I was screaming in my car! (again)

I've read the book, and returning to the gold standard is hardly "what it is all about." I don't think this is an honest mistake. It's a lie carefully designed to misinform and turn people away from the book and its message.

Anything we can do?

Can I just say something

Can I just say something that has always bothered me? I've never brought it up because I didn't want to pointt out mistakes in Paul's logic. However, now it doesn't matter. Anyway, Paul constantly says the Constitution was written for the specific point of restraining the federal government. Now, this is absolutely incorrect. The Constitution Convention was the result of instability under the Articles of Confederation, specifically economic instability. One of the biggest problems under the Articles of Confederation was the difficultly in financing the operations of the federal government. I mean the people working in it obviously had to be paid something.

As I am sure some know here, Patrick Henry refused to go to the Constitutional Convention because he "smelt a rat," meaning he feared more central power. That is what essentially happened. The Constitution was the states surrendering their sovereignty to a much more powerful federal, central government. The Constitution was not about restraining the government. It was the exact opposite. The Constitution was about creating a powerful government. That's what it was and is. Now, if that's the case, what is there to admire and love? It is this:

The genius, if you wanna call it that, was in their ability to create such a government while also not destroying liberty. That is the genius. That is what merits admiration and where the amazement should sit.

Now what nobody every really talks about is in fact how badly written the document is. As my professor likes to point out, as much as the founding fathers knew, they in fact didn't know just as much. That is why in fact there is some contradiction as well as much vagueness within the Constitution. Part of the reason we are where we are today is in fact because of our attachment to the 1700s and this document. But that's another topic too complicated to get into here.

On the plus side, though, it is nice to see the book doing so well.

the point

You can say this, but you're missing the point.

It is perfectly correct to say that the constitution was intended to lmit the federal government in that it was meant to exhaustively describe the valid functions of the federal government. Furthermore, that restraint has not been removed on many counts (i.e., by amendment), but only ignored. This is Paul's point, and I see no flaw in "logic" in it. Yes, the framers saw some benefit to be had from creating more centralization. This, however, does not negate the fact that the document was carefully written to restrain the federal government thus created.

You distort the reality to

You distort the reality to fit your wishes.

I, in fact, said pretty much what you are saying here:

The genius of their accomplishment was in their ability to create a strong central government without destroying liberty. And the way i am saying it is much clearer.

Anyway, it is not perfectly correct to say such a thing because saying that distorts what is real. The constitution was intended to create a federal government. That was its intent. There is nothing more to it. Now an aspect of the consequence of that intention (the creation of a federal government) was that big concern of the preservation of liberty. That was necessary for it's creation to go through. However, the intention was the creation of a federal government. It was not intended to restrain the federal government. I mean if that was their intent they wouldn't have gone through with creating such a rule-book. I mean what you are saying doesn't make any sense. You are essentially saying "x" was created to restrain "x." It's crazy talk.

the constitution

Fortune Favors the Bold

was the result of a compromise between the federalists and the anti-federalists. we have the anti-federalists (and Patrick Henry, a dissenting federalist) to thank for the bill of rights.

I agree the Constitution is

I agree the Constitution is the RESULT of compromises. I don't know what that's got to do with what I said. What I said is about the CAUSES for the Constitution.

And the history surrounding the "Bill of Rights" is a lot more complicated than that. I, in fact, think many, many times the "Bill of Rights," as Madison partially felt as well, is not such a great thing. For sure it formally solidified certain principles. However, as a consequence, it also more securely established the power of the federal government.

Either way, I don't understand your referencing so-called "anti-federalists," (a name they did not give themselves). Without the Constitution, there very likely would not be any real country. It would have dissolved into complete instability. It was the right thing to do to create a federal government. The problem is that it just wasn't done in such a great way. We mythologize it, but in reality it is not so great. It's vagueness, a consequence of their uncertainty and anxiety (things that are understandable), is essentially the problem.

Ron would have been an anti-federalist if he was alive...

at the time of the Constitutional Convention.

Get Ron Paul's book into local libraries as well

One of our local Meetup group members requested that many of us send in a request to our local library to buy Ron Paul’s “The Revolution: A Manifesto.” It was such a good idea that I could not resist sending it out to everyone.

I have copied my note to request our library order it.

By the way, I borrowed some of this copy from the Ron Paul website and then changed it a bit to make it a bit less opinionated so that the library personnel (who might be liberal minded) would not toss my request. The importance is on getting the libraries to ORDER the book!

Author: Ron Paul
Title: The Revolution: A Manifesto
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing (April 2008)
ISBN-10: 0446537519
ISBN-13: 978-0446537513

This book is about the principles of individual liberty, sound money, the Constitution, and the foreign policy of the Founding Fathers. It is a reintroduction to Americans which is simply written so that readers can hear and judge these great American principles for themselves and apply them in their lives. Readers can learn about the politics and principles the Founding Fathers established and that they need not be satisfied with the choices the system offers them every four years. Another way really is possible.

Please purchase this book for the library.

I would encourage everyone to follow suit and contact their local libraries with a request to order the book and make it available to the public.

In addition, buy as many copies as you can. I've already started buying them and setting them aside as Christmas gifts! I plan to even buy several and donate them to local high school libraries.

Freedom is the best gift of all!

Best regards,
Kimberly

This is a cool idea. I'll

This is a cool idea. I'll definitely look into doing this at my college.

Library

Wow, truly a great idea!!!! My local library actually has a sign up that reads "Book Donations Needed" so I don't know why this hadn't dawned on me until I read your comment! Thanks, I will certainly be doing this!

"Libertarian Manifesto" by Rothbard

We freedom lovers must rescue some word for our cause

Revolution is 1917 communist revolution?
Manifesto is communist manifesto?

NO!
We believe in libertarian Revolution an we read libertarian Manifestos, like LIBERTARIAN MANIFESTO- FOR A NEW LIBERTY by M. Rothbard. All you who have read Ron Paul´s manifesto, I recommend Rothbard´s manifesto.

Regards from Europe, Spain. I am new writing here, reader from months ago :P

I agree. Ron's book 1st, then Murray's 2nd

I'm doing it sort of reverse order. I have started Murray's book but haven't commenced Ron's!

Great!

Lol great! I read Rothbard´s Manifesto 2 years ago, when it was translated to Spanish. Ron Paul manifesto is easier to read, less scholar and shorter.

Must buy this book at stores to count

All,
The reason "The Revolution" debuted at No 7 instead of No 1 is because Amazon / internet sales are not counted towards NYT bestseller listing!! If you want this book to go to No 1 and stay there, you must buy from physical stores.

Why Not a #1 Debut

That's not the reason. The NYT was measuring the week ending April 26, while Amazon was measuring up through yesterday, when the campaign sent out a mass email about the book.

Also, physical stores stocked very few copies. Some stores hadn't even heard of the book. So it's incredible that he got as high as #7. Now that he's on the list, they'll start stocking it.

Drudge Reports #1 On Amazon

What an amazing, God-fearing man. The best fourteen fiat dollars that I have ever spent in my life.

We need more diggs!

to get these to popular--where they then really get seen!.

Yes, it is number 7..BUT WHY

Yes, it is number 7..BUT WHY do they call it a libertarian manifesto????????

That makes it sound more like communist manifesto than anything. I think we should letter bomb them and tell them that this book is NOT about being Libertarian! For crying out loud.....

You're confusing libertarian with Libertarian...

One can be libertarian, without being a member of the Libertarian Party (and all the baggage that carries). Ron Paul is such a "one", so the description is apt......

http://groups.yahoo.com/g...

Although, I should mention...

...that I do believe I've heard that Ron Paul IS also a Life Member of the Libertarian Party. So there you go.... :-)

http://groups.yahoo.com/g...

The term "manifesto" is older than that

A lot of people (myself included!) instantly think "Communist" when hearing the word "manifesto," but of course, the term pre-dates that hideous document. RP actually picked a very accurate term for his book's title --

Courtesy of my Mac's dictionary:

manifesto: a public declaration of policy and aims, especially one issued before an election by a political party or candidate.

Origin: Mid-17th Century: from Italian, manifestare from Latin, make public, from manifestus 'obvious' (see MANIFEST)

Yes, It Is

The book will be on the NYT list that appears on May 11.

Well, since the May 4 list seems to be out right NOW (April 30).

...when will the "May 11" list come out? I'm guessing not on May 11...

http://groups.yahoo.com/g...

Thank you Ron Paul

Thank you Ron Paul

Not only is it NOT on the

Not only is it NOT on the best seller list at NYT, but you can not even pull UP the book if you put in the title. An old March 7 news about Paul "quitting" comes up. This is highly odd. Yesterday it was showing as #7 and called a Libertarian manifesto...today----GONE.

The Trolls moved to Amazon

Please don't forget to leave a review on amazon for the Book but also to rate other reviewer's and leave a constructive comment and especially focus on the stupid Trolls "reviews", they are out there!
