5/7/08 UPDATE: Apparently more books have become available earlier than originally estimated. Now the info has been updated to say, "In stock on May 11, 2008". It's dropped down to #8 on the Amazon bestseller list at the moment.
5/5/08 UPDATE (2): Now the info has been updated to say, "In stock on May 25, 2008". Either their system is confused, or they've sold out the May 15 order too. It's at #4 on the bestseller list at the moment.
5/5/08 UPDATE: Now the info has been updated to say, "In stock on May 15, 2008" I guess they said "7 to 10 weeks" yesterday because they did not know when more would be in. And it's back up to #3 on the bestseller list (from #4 yesterday).
5/4/08 UPDATE: Now the info says, "Usually ships in 7 to 10 weeks " I guess the shipment due to arrive on May 13 has been sold out too!

The information for "The Revolution: A Manifesto" used to say "In stock"; now it says, "In stock on May 8, 2008".

To Borders store and buying some mothers day gifts. Doing so will contribute to the NYT bestseller list, of which is compiled every week. Last week it debuted at #7 with with only 2 days of sales being counted after its release. This time around I'm expecting a #3 spot or better. Amazon is dry! To the bookstore everyone!

How is it his book is in the number 4 spot if Amazon is sold out? They should have a great big shinning star next to his book stating they couldn't keep up with the sales.

That could explain the disappearing one-star reviews of the book as well (not that they didn't deserve to be removed, but there are plenty of reviews at Amazon that should be removed but aren't).

Good thing I bought a copy of it for my mom yesterday. Already bought my copy at Borders on Wall Street Monday, and had Ron Paul sign it and shake my hand! Had to take a 2 1/2 hour lunch break; no one noticed!

I was happy because I had my pr-ordered Amazon book and cd's, I also bought a Border's copy as well, too get upstairs:-) You may have got a DVD I was passing out to the line. I gave out about 80 DVD's. I was the guy with all the RP buttons on. Though it was misty and raining at times, it was cooool. :-)

No, it's good to be out of stock.
Being out of stock does not prevent anyone from buying it. It just means shipment will be delayed.
However, since Amazon does not charge you until the item is shipped, I wonder if the order counts towards bestseller status, or if the purchase is when it's actually shipped.
Do you have any experience with retail?
Most people don't buy products on backorder. If they want to buy an item and it's not in stock, they simply forget about it and buy something else.
Now that the book is out of stock for 7-10 weeks, it will slowly drop from the bestsellers list. Preorders do count towards bestseller status, but they won't be enough to keep the book at #1.

I ordered my 3 copies from B&N's web site last week and they arrived Saturday.
I am somewhat as Flavio said for most things; if it's not there, I usually won't order it and will forget about it... if that were to happen for The Revolution A Manifesto, I would keep it in my mind to get it though.
