Deadline is TODAY, May 1 to become a delegate in Mississippi...I NEED HELP!
I wasn't able to go to our local precinct this past Saturday to try to get eleceted as a delegate, but I did find out that today is the last day to submit a DECLARATION OF CANDIDACY for the National Convention Delegate or alternate. I got the form emailed as an attachment today, but I'm concerned with some of the wording. I'd be happy to email it to anyone that wants to look it over (Dr. Parent...hint hint) Votes are bound to John McCain in MS, so I would just have to break the rules to vote for Dr. Paul?
I went to Ron Paul's website recently and clicked on "Become a Ron Paul Delegate" which I did, but I haven't heard back from anyone yet. It did state that they REALLY need delegates in Idaho, New Mexico, MISSISSIPPI, Utah, and Vermont. So, I know that he needs help here in MS and I want to help. I'm very new to all this, so I could use all the help I can get. I don't really know how the process works. Do I have to go to the State Convention to be elected as a National delegate? Do I have to give a speech? I'm afraid I wouldn't be a very effective speaker, I'm a bit shy and get nervous when speaking in large groups. Are there other advantages of becoming a delegate? It seems like I read somewhere that some people are making changes to their local GOP...

REMINDER: MISSISSIPPI’S REPUBLICAN PRECINCT CAUCUSES AND COUNTY CONVENTIONS TO BE HELD TOMORROW
Jackson, Miss – Tomorrow morning, conservatives across Mississippi will go to their polling locations to participate in the 2008 Republican precinct caucuses. The caucuses will determine who will represent each precinct at their respective Republican County Conventions tomorrow afternoon, and are the first step to determining who will represent each county at the Mississippi Republican Party’s State Convention (May 9-10).
"Tomorrow's precinct caucuses are an opportunity for all conservatives to get involved in the election process,” said Governor Haley Barbour. “It's time for the Mississippi Republican Party to get organized and excited for the upcoming presidential election this fall, and sustain that enthusiasm for the next four years. I encourage everyone to participate at their regular voting precinct tomorrow morning.”
Caucuses will start at 10:00 a.m., with County Conventions taking place tomorrow afternoon at County Courthouses. If you have questions regarding your local caucuses or polling locations, please contact your county’s Republican Party chairman, or call the Mississippi Republican Party at (601) 948-5191.
Yes, I saw that....
I wasn't able to go to the precint caucuses and county convention that day. I'm hoping that I can somehow still be a delegate by submitting this DECLARATION OF CANDIDACY FOR NATIONAL CONVENTION DELEGATE OR ALTERNATE form. Or do you think I would have had to be at the precint caucuses and county convention to be eligible?
I found this somewhere and had it as a reminder on my Outlook calendar, which just popped up as a reminder today:
Any registered state voter who considers himself or herself a Republican is eligible to seek election as a Republican National Convention delegate. Interested candidates must file a "statement of candidacy" with the state Republican Party by May 1.
you can try going to a party meeting

on the MS calendar "undercover" and ask some people about whats going on
I will probably do that...
Anyone else out there from MS? I'm wondering if I will be the only Ron Paul delegate in MS. :(
I doubt that.
I doubt that.
You don't know how it is around here
especially in North MS. There's a lot of people that have never heard of RP, and those that have heard of him think's he's either dropped out or has no chance so they aren't "wasting a vote" on him.
I believe there's a pretty strong meetup group around the MS coast area though, so hopefully they will be at the state convention.
Fill it out, send it in and
Fill it out, send it in and call to make sure they got it or visit in person if you can. Hopefully, this will enable you to get to your state convention as delegate.
This is where you will need to have a "rules expert" and a good parlimentarian helping you change the rules to unbind and accept nominations from the floor.
BUMP
bump....TODAY IS THE DEADLINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's 2:18PM!!!!
I am in
DeSoto county and I can't figure it out either. Supposedly according to the people I talked to, the rules are so convoluted in MS that practically no one knows what to do to become a delegate. So if you find out, post it back here because we are all lost and confused on this one.
Hancock County..
Kept calling Jackson and got the run around over and over...I was given at least four phone numbers that were suppose to be my district Repub coordinators...Three were wrong numbers...the fourth was a cell phone with voice mail...After many messages left...I never recieved a call back...I kept complaining to Jackson and they gave me more dead end numbers to call for the location of our delegate nominations..It seems to me that they are guarding the locations in earnest.

Generally, you must
Generally, you must participate in your county caucus in order to be able to attend the state convention as delegate. However, if you are a MCCanus supporter, they may make an exception.
Call you state or county GOP and ask to be considered.
It is of the utmost importance to get to your state convention so that you can change the rules to unbind your delegates.
You guys GOTTA become
You guys GOTTA become delegates now!! Do not worry about speaches or shyness. Most times this is NOT necessary.
If you are bound to vote for MCCanus going into the State convention, CHANGE THE RULES to UNBIND. You only need a majority to do this, and MCCANUS has little support.
Contact your state RP campaign person.
And above all, remember Reno!!!
Do you want me to email you the form?
I would be happy to, just let me know. Or you can contact:
