US: Court Orders Tyson to Suspend Ads For Antibiotic-Free Chicken

Poultry giant Tyson Foods has 14 days to dismantle a national multimillion dollar ad campaign centered on the claim that its chickens are raised without antibiotics, a federal appeals court in Richmond ruled yesterday.

Tyson, based in Springdale, Ark., will have to remove posters and brochures from 8,500 grocery stores nationwide.

"We're disappointed the motion for a stay has been denied and are evaluating our legal options," said Gary Mickelson, a spokesman for Tyson Foods. "We continue to believe we have acted responsibly in the way we have labeled and marketed our products and intend to stand our ground."

Screw Tyson

They were one of the companies giving their illegal immigrant workers the day off to protest immigration reform and they were indicted on charges of helping to traffic illegals across the border. I'll never EVER buy anything from them.

tyson chicken

here's link and a snippet:
"The action was initiated by Tyson's competitors, Sanderson and Perdue, which claimed that Tyson's ads were misleading because none of the companies use those types of drugs -- and that consumers could be led to believe they and other companies are using the drugs. "

granted i don't know the merits of the case BUT at face value, i think tyson's competitors exercise their 1st amendment rights and mimic tyson's advertising instead of relying on the force of govt to restrict tyson's 1st amendment rights.

Ionophores put into eggs before hatching

and given to the chickens when ill?? In 1990 I was in the middle west visiting family who raised chickens for Tyson, at that time my cousin told me that they fed the chickens strychnine to make them grow faster. Some grew so fast their hearts stopped; they had to pick up the dead ones every morning. So many hours before pickup they were taken off the poison to flush it out of their systems.
When I was little my Grandparents raised chickens and it took all summer to grow them for market; now it takes about six weeks. I wonder why?!
If you can, get your chickens local or grow your own.

Yep. There was one meat

Yep. There was one meat packer that wanted to test all cows it processed for mad cow. The USDA would not let them do it.

Also, the USDA was supposed to be checking meat packers on a daily basis and a recent report showed that since 1970 they've only been checking them on a monthly basis.

Big government can't or won't do the job of ensuring food safety. Free market solutions would improve the situation because better alternatives would become available. People would have the ability to reward suppliers they trusted with more business rather than being forced to consume food produced under the uniformly bad regulations of the USDA.

BEST ADVICE HERE TODAY!

Buy from your LOCAL, privately owned meat market. Their meats may be slightly more expensive, however, SMALL trade for quality.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MEAT MARKETS!!!!! Save yourselves!!!!

Saw horrible pictures of chicken from China - picked up dead (nobody cares why they died) - then skinned and thrown in a corner - then injected with "color" dye that actually tenderizes (which for some reason makes them more tender) and then sent off to your local Wal-Mart et all as chicken-tenders!!!

My son-in-law and family have this type of business for 45 years and NOBODY beats their meat!

Hams, for example. Price per pound sounds cheap at grocery, however, they inject them with water to increase weight. So what do you gain????

BTW, there is ALWAYS a meat inspector present when they butcher.

Some of it is cheaper too.

Some of it is cheaper too. You wouldnt expect to get 6 corn on the cobs for a $1. Meat is about the same but the fruits and veggies are always cheaper.

HAHAHAHA! You just said

HAHAHAHA! You just said "beat their meat"

...sorry, I'm perverted.

On topic:
I agree. I always felt better about buying meat, or any produce for that matter, from local markets. The food just tastes better too. Before the USDA, meat was much safer to eat in this country. Surprise, surprise.

Smart

aleck (you thought I was going to say a$$)

P.S. Also stopped using microwave because it destroys the vitamins etc. in food/water.

Saw pictures of two plants; one watered with microwaved water, the other with regular water. The plant with micro wave water died, the other flourished!

Also read same thing about planting two pots of seeds; microwave-watered seeds did not sprout or grow.

I'll have to admit, my formerly perfect cup of tea is MUCH tastier with boiled water on the stove rather than microwaved.

That's like...

them keeping "downer cows" (mad cow), in our food supplies. A big thank you to our Gov't. (gag)

To Lacandy:

"Downer cows" aren't (mad cow) disease. "Downers" or "downer cows" are cows who have been subjected to such extreme abuse by workers that they can't get up to get off the truck. Their legs are often broken, they're sick, they may have "shipping fever" or they may be young or small and trampled by the other cows when stockyard workers give them a "hot shot" (an electric device that carries about 5,000 volts).

If you're brave enough (this isn't an easy view), take a look at what "downers" are and why.

And you are correct when you say cows with mad cow disease are still in the grocery stores. The only way to be sure you're not eating an infected cow, is to change your diet. :)

Samster

Any downer cow could

Any downer cow could potentially be infected by mad cow or other infectious diseases.

These cows are sick when they get to the packing plant and are abused so that they will get on their feet so that they can be legally killed (because a standing cow is "healthier").

I only eat organic buffalo and chicken and they taste so much better than factory farm offerings.

to Meistersinger

Yes, downer cows could possess the potential to be infected with mad cow, but being a "downer" isn't indicative of the disease. In other words, it isn't mutually exclusive. The vast majority of these cows are not infected with mad cow. They're severely mistreated and this is the primary reason they're "downers."

Yes, I know about the low

Yes, I know about the low risk of CJD in cow populations despite the appearance of downers in their ranks.

I would note that (in my understanding) the abuse of the animals is used mainly to make cows which have been downed by disease and poor care stand up. Some of them might be down due to abuse, but the abuse seems to take place mainly in an effort to make the sick cows stand up so that they may be legally slaughtered.

Anyhow...
