ELECTION MANIPULATION: NEVADA GOP SABOTAGES RON PAUL DELEGATE VOTE

The Republican Party has a real problem with Ron Paul. He just won't go away quietly. He is still a candidate for President. He hasn't conceded or dropped out--despite media wishful thinking. Best of all, he refuses to endorse front runner John McCain, the worst warmongering candidate of the entire Republican field. Frankly, Dr. Paul both scares and embarrasses the Republican leadership. They are afraid that if he gets any momentum or significant number of delegates to the convention they will have to let him make a major address on prime time TV and thus more converts. And, Dr. Paul is certainly capable of making converts. He takes all the traditional positions the Republican Party was built upon and that core Republican voters love: small and limited federal government, low regulation, non-aggressive foreign policy, honest money, anti-abortion, and pro-family values. The Republican National Committee wants him to go away so they can get on with the promotion of Sen. John McCain-a totally dishonest and corrupt insider, according to his own son--and continue the hidden globalist agenda which now rules the Party at the highest levels. This week in the Nevada GOP convention, the party leadership shut down the convention when it became obvious that Ron Paul supporters outnumbered those loyal to party leaders who wanted to elect only McCain delegates to the national convention--even though Romney won the primary and Paul came in second, above McCain. It's as if they are saying, "If we don't like the results of the vote, we'll adjourn till we can muster enough of our people to outnumber you!"

Here's the best account of what happened by C. Bunce of the Daily Paul online newsletter. It is specific enough to show my readers just how evil this really was and who did it [edited for clarity].

"On Saturday April 26th , 2008, in Reno Nevada, the Republican State convention came to order with a set agenda and rigged rules to basically give complete control of the Delegate process to the party. The original rules would have only allowed for a set list of people that could be chosen as a whole to represent the state. This slate was created by a small group of people and were never published, and even as we began the convention were not known.

"This was the first attempt to keep complete control of the delegate selection process. After three hours of [debate], the convention modified the delegate selection process to allow anyone to run for a national delegate position. Three would be chosen from each of the three Congressional District and twenty-two from the entire body by each person voting for twenty-two people.

"It was lunch at that point in time, giving two hours for the next play to be planned. Upon reconvening from lunch at 2:27pm, [the party] wasted no time in unfurling a new plan, which was to not vote for twenty-two people at large (that would take far to much time), but instead vote for only five. Anybody with an eighth grade math understanding would know this was intended to cut our voting by four. This just rejected by the convention getting with a 75% rejection vote.

"At this time we split into three districts and began to vote on delegates, this only took about an hour and went rather smoothly in district three and one. District two was continually delayed because of a dispute of whether a printed ballot was acceptable or a handwritten one... After this we came back and began to debate planks on the floor.

"From our previous count from observers in the rooms of Congressional District's 1 and 3, Paul Supporters had won all three delegates spots in District 3 and one Paul supporter in District 1. The counts of these districts took about 30 minutes after voting was completed. The 2nd District was taking very long to complete and no one could understand the delay of more then an hour. Information from observers within its count room relayed that Paul supporters had swept its three delegates as well. This meant that Paul Supporters took 7 out of 9 possible Congressional District delegates to the National Convention.

"The person walking from the counting room made a straight line to State Chairwoman Sue Lowden, leaning over and whispering into her ear. After the person walked off Sue sat there for about 30 seconds tapping her foot and then stood up and walked over to Councilman Woodbury who was sitting in front of me, leaning over she said, 'If we can break Quorum, can we invalidate this?' After saying this rather loudly and glancing at the expression on my face she quickly quieted down and I was unable to hear the rest of the conversation.

"I figured out what would constitute a quorum in this convention of 1347 delegates--674 delegates. Soon after Chairwoman Lowden left, a John McCain staffer, Paul Johnson, came by. I had been gathering signs and information from him all day, and he believed I was a hardcore McCain supporter... He began his conversation with, 'They [presumably the Ron Paul supporters] are trying to pull a coup, we are going to leave and quarter the convention.' I responded, 'Do we even have the numbers, all they need is a couple hundred to keep Quorum?' He answered back, 'The powers that be [NOTE: the insiders know the term and use it] have the numbers, I am just doing what I was told to do by my boss.' At this moment I knew that they had lost control of the convention and were desperate.

"I watched the party officers directly in front of me huddling up with the parliamentarian and trying to come up with something. Soon after this huddle, the party began to filibuster the convention [purposely taking up time] filling it with videos and speakers over a course of 60 minutes. During this time Sue Lowden began barking at Chairman Bob Beers, and I could clearly see Chairman Beers not agreeing with what she was telling him. First it was just her talking to him, but by the fourth time he stepped off the stage, eight people were surrounding him and pressuring him, which I can only assume was to end the convention, since that is what happened next.

"When he returned to the stage for the last time, Chairman Beers ended the convention illegally calling an indefinite recess without a vote of the delegation to do so, at 6 pm. This was not before their first plan of ending the convention was attempted to be put into play by a member that was not informed calling for a Quorum which we would still have had. But Beers interrupted him saying, 'I will save you some time', and called the indefinite recess. Later it was claimed to be the end of the contract of the room. But upon request from the Hotel they gladly gave us three more hours for free.

"After five seconds of pure silence, disbelief, and confusion, a once consistently civil and controlled convention was thrown into ten minutes of anarchy, while the party [leaders] vacated the room out the back doors. Bob Bears attempted to speak with an angry mob with little to no avail before leaving. After this occurred we attempted to reconvene the meeting but fell 70 people short of a quorum." Too bad.

What was done in Nevada is merely a prelude to what will happen at the national convention in Minneapolis MN on September 1-4. National GOP leaders will attempt to marginalize Dr. Paul since he "can't win." They may even try to avoid a vote and proclaim McCain the candidate by acclamation. That means dedicating the entire convention to McCain and his potential Vice Presidents ignoring Paul's challenge. I spoke with Ron about the convention and he feels confident they will treat him fairly. He says the GOP national chairman Mike Duncan was very friendly to him on the phone. I think that's all a ploy to disarm the good doctor. I think we will see Dr. Paul completely sidelined at the convention. Even the RNC website speaks only about building the team necessary to see John McCain elected president. They act as if there will be no contest at the convention.

In light of these developments, not at all unexpected, I'm going to recommend that all Ron Paul supporters continue to seek to become delegates to the GOP convention and to be prepared to embarrass the party if it continues to deny Dr. Paul a voice. That said, we must also be prepared to fight on under a third party banner after the Republicans reject Dr. Paul. Under no circumstances should constitutional conservatives vote for John McCain as the "lesser of two evils." There is no such thing anymore among the major party candidates.

Exposing the chicanery at the state convention

I am a delegate to the Nevada State Republican Convention. I have been disappointed that our local newspapers have done very little accurate reporting on the abrupt halting of the convention. I am soliciting money for an advertisement in the local paper that tells what really happened and urges the state party to reconvene the convention at the earliest practical date. Please consider supporting this effort. For more information see the following link:

Reno Gazette Journal?

I'm not sure why you guys think an "ad" in one paper is the best way to go "exposing" what the papers have chosen to not tell. It's like feeding the beast that bites you. Why not do something creative..like go to farmers markets and poll people, "Who would they want, McCain or Ron Paul?" It's a simple enough poll to not be asking for trouble, and allows you to get the mesage out, distribute some slim jims and talk about what is going on... Drudge headlined the rEVOLution this morning, Daily Kos reported...so MSM wants to know...also here on Daily Paul there was a post from someone asking to hear from people at the convention... MSM wants to write about you...and this issue, but they don't know how...they are too busy trying to program us for Obama selection.

is it possible to just contact enough people in Nevada and

restart the convention without Bob Beers ?? If you have enough to call a quorum can it be done???

Nevada GOP Party Leaders need jail time

Sue Lowden and others, if it can be proven they wanted to close down convention cause of Paul supporters should be tried, and if found guilty, jailed for a minimum of 15 yrs.

The convention in Nevada

I was a delegate to the convention and here is a link to a radio interview about the convention:

Radio interview

The guy that interviewed you was quite the conspiracy theorist on RP Revolution taking over the Republican Party.
Like it was some kind of sin for Liberty loving people to have political aspirations.

I think he believes Ron Paul supporters are mostly Libertarians, or people that believe in less government, or implementing it would put us back in the "stone age".

If radio host was a conservative, then I'm a Monkey's Uncle.

Watch the recess happen.

Oklahoma's State GOP Convention

Oklahoma's State GOP Convention was railroaded. At the very beginning we wanted a chairman who would be fair. A roll call was called and the speaker asked for a stand up vote. They ignored it and gave the floor to the establishment speaker. We knew within a few minutes we were in trouble.

The rest of the day went pretty much the same. I've never seen so many rules broken to keep the Ron Paul supporters at fray. The establishment got their slate of people that was never published pushed through.

They call the Ron Paul supporters disruptive and disobedient and that's what they need to call themselves. The Ron Paul supporters didn't explode, wasn't disobedient but the crowd knew that we got railroaded.

Robert's Rules Newly Revised 10th Edition

Clearly states that a quorum is presumed to exist until it is questioned.

It also clearly states how a recess is to occur. I'll have to look, but I don't think there is a such a thing as 'indefinite recess.' The proper motion would be to adjourn. either way, a vote is required. Since it did not occur, you are still in session with a presumed quorum. As long as no one recognizes the absence of a quorum and asks for the chair to seek one, then you can meet and go about your business.

(Don't you also elect your state party officers at the convention? If so, I think you have an easier road of this than you think.)

Continue the convention and get on with business. I'd bet there are even some NV GOP rules somewhere to back you up.

I think the quorum check broke it...

As I read what I saw here:

Once they got the lights and PA system back on, the delegates checked whether they had a quorum and they were short. I suspect that qualifies as a quorum call, with the convention then recessing for lack of quorum.

However I suspect that if a good faith effort is made to notify all the delegates of a time and place, and a quorum is assembled then and there, the convention would be validly reconvened, regardless of whether Bob B. attends.

One thing to watch out for: If the party rules specify "Roberts' Rules of Order" and not "Roberts REVISED Rules of order", the simplified "Roberts Revised" manuals you get at the bookstore are invalid. (One dirty trick I recall from the Vietnam era that could be pulled at such a meeting was to wait until things were getting hot and heavy on some point in dispute and then call the previous question. Under Roberts this required something like an immediate vote on the last thing tabled. The meeting would then dissolve into chaos as nearly everybody tried to find this in Roberts Revised, which didn't have it.)

Regardless: If you can't get a quorum together physically, and the Nevada party doesn't reconvene the convention (or even if it does), you might contact a quorum's worth, get a majority of them to agree to a slate of delegates, and all of them to sign on to a protest to the national credentials committee demanding that the slate be recognized as the legitimate Nevada delegation and be seated at the national convention. B-)

Something like that might work for Oklahoma, too.

Of course the credentials committee might balk. But making a big enough stink about it might set up an opening for the delegates at the national convention to propose rule changes.

Meanwhile: On any future conventions that look like they might become railroad jobs, it seems to me the delegates should be prepared to use the procedures for replacing the chairman (including having a popular substitute chairman ready to go) and activate them the moment the initial chair pulls something unpopular enough to raise a hubbub.

After all: They're already blaming us for the disruptions they themselves cause. And let's face it: throwing out the crooks IS a disruption of business-as-usual. B-) Since we already have the name, why not get the benefits of the game?

I agree

According to the rules they are technically still in session.

The Republican (wing of the Council on Foreign Relations) Party

I'm not sure if the National Republican Party can be embarassed. They seem to have no shame. They have sold out to the Neo-Con New World Order crowd, they have given the bums rush to the only candidate who has any integrity, and they are still trying to stack the deck. It has become so obvious to me that the Republican Party is in bed with the same special interests (Council on Foreign Relations) as the Democrat Party. Where is the difference? There is none!

More betrayal of the American people, whom they hold in comtempt. More betrayal of the Constitution, for which they have equal contempt.

Technically speaking, the Nevada convetion is still

in session and no quorum is needed to continue the vote. A quorum was established to start the original session and no vote was taken to recess the session. Therefore, the orginal quorum is still in effect and the session is still active and in effect!

AZ convention is this Saturday

The Pima County republican party insists that all state delegates vote for the "unity slate". That is, a slate of delegates that a few of the party leaders are going to come up with by next week, who are all solid McCain supporters. They did this for your sake, and are putting a lot of time into the effort, so it's very important that you sacrifice your vote for the "common good". They think it's very important that AZ is firmly behind McCain to show to the press that there is unity in the AZ republican party. So why is this important? Because last week, in Nevada, the "Ron Paul people" hijacked the convention and shut it down! They tried to take over the convention and swarmed it with Ron Paul supporters! And you know who was behind it? The Ron Paul campaign coordinator in Phoenix, Jeff Greenspan! And even worse, (name-I-can't-remember) is trying to get him voted in as a national delegate next week! Now the AZ republican party leaders don't want an embarrassment in Mesa next week, so you need to vote for this "unity slate". They don't want anyone "disrupting" the voting process by actually making their own choices, the same way there was such a huge "disruption" in Nevada last week.

...

Anyhow, I had to sit through something like this yesterday at the Pima county all-district meeting. Before yesterday, I was going to go to the convention and do my delegate thing, quietly. But now, I look forward to openly attempting to dominate the convention with the other Ron Paul delegates.

Oh, it's ON alright.

Tell the delegates about THIS

http://muddythoughts.blog...

And then ask them if they honestly support a candidate that not only allowed but helped CAUSE genocide within your own state's borders!

scott715

Scott715, will you please record your meetings, so we can listen to them on youtube? Your postings are great. Some audio would cap it off. Thank!

are you serious?

Oh, and welcome to dailypaul.

In "light" of the Nevada experience...

As I understand it (from postings here):

In Nevada the "powers that be" didn't just improperly
adjourn the convention. They also disrupted an attempt
to keep it going by shutting down the PA and the lights.
As a result those who were trying to keep it going were
unable to let the rest know. So by the time they got the
lights and PA back on enough had left that they were
short of a quorum.

IMHO, in case that's tried again the Paul contingent
should be ready: Everybody should carry a small
flashlight, and a few should carry a replacement
for a PA system.

(I suggest several people with FM wireless microphones -
more than one for redundancy - and a lot of people with
pocket radios pre-tuned to them. All small and easily
concealable: You know that if the McCainiacs get
wind of it they'll try to confiscate them.)

This may be an example of "fighting the last war". But
the way you keep from LOSING the next battle the same
way you lost the one before is to fix things so that
the same tactic won't work twice.

If they can't blow the quorum by walking out, a walkout
attempt will dilute their voting strength futher.
Then they'll have no excuse if those opposed to McCain
(pro-Paul and otherwise) elect their own slate in a
landslide. B-)

in case they turn out the lights, SUE them!

one; it presents a fire hazard- big huge insurance liability; so contact the meeting /convention hall folks Before the convention let them know that the very folks who rent the hall might be putting over 1000 people at risk. The Peppermill hotel had no knowlege of this apparently; Considering the meeting requires an extra insurance bond; find out which company is goiing to be held liable when a claim is made, there were many people who were disabled who were put in harms way because of these pranks. We were having earthquakes! THERE is a massive lawsuit in the works against all individuals involved, from the Mccain staffers who turned out the lights, to ms, sue lowden who gave the order to the peppermill staff to shut down the room Also go to your local dollar store get megaphones and wands with blinkis red and green lights for up or down votes last I suggest whistle to get the chairman's attention if you are beiing ignored.

Who knows

Does anyone in AZ actually know Scot715?

Be the Miracle!

What kind of a question is that?

?

So what happens next?

Tomatoes. Lots of them.

So what happens next?

JM
Will the Nevada GOP re-convene or will they just use their own deligate list, which hasn't been voted on? If they ever do re-convene, I think a motion should be made to noninate a new chairman. It is very evident to me that that all the voters in Nevada are getting a raw deal.

No official word yet

Only rumors. I certainly hope that the people who attended the first "segment" before "recess" are not disenfranchised and the approved platform is kept intact as voted. I wish we would hear soon, so we can do our job, as elected.

IT'S DOABLE

"convention was thrown into ten minutes of anarchy"

Only ten minutes?

The party should aspire to anarchy. Make it a plank in the platform.

Ron Paul Explorer: The All Paul Search Engine

Great article !

The RNC and McCain will have their hands full come September. Ron Paul supporters are smart, observent, and detail minded people.

-
People worldwide support Dr. Paul too :-)
http://www.pollingmatrix....

Yahoooooooo

Or as my granddaughter would say "sweet!" Rather than get discouraged, please everyone let's get stronger and stronger. If you are anywhere near an upcoming RNC/GOP event, whether a delegate/alternate or not...be there with your liberty bells on and waving Ron Paul signs.

Sure wish we would hear what is going to happen with regards to the "recessed" NV Convention. I'm all ready to go with a peaceful, but strong "fire in my belly." As a grandmother, I have to say again...my hat is off to the intelligence, perserverance, and patriotic nature of the young people who are so involved in Dr. Paul's campaign. There is definitely hope for the future!

IT'S DOABLE

I was there, yes this was a good thing

We witnessd the beginning of the end of the grip of the ruling republican elite. They seem to prefer thier own power to any higher ideal. Their devotees have seen this and are questioning their detication to such wrong doing therefore do not want to be a part of this. TThey taking a real look at what Ron Paul stands for; they see that these ideas are true republican ideals. the worms are comming out of the mud

Nice!

A well-written article favorable to Ron Paul with a DP plug too... 3 out of 3 works for me.. ;)
