I Have A Question About Ron Paul's Income Tax Message

I heard Ron Paul say multiple times that, "if we got rid of the personal income tax today, our government would still generate the same revenue it did 10 years ago."

Can someone please post a link to the source of that information? I can't seem to find it online and I have someone I want to prove wrong who doesn't believe it.

Thank you very much!

If We the People were to abolish the IRS

If We the People were to abolish the IRS and the Personal Income tax as Ron Paul proposes, how would We the People fund the necessary functions of the government We created and We gave authority to?

1. We would seek out and eliminate highly inefficient government programs;
2. We would begin to phase out government programs that are duplicated at the state level and/or not allowed under the US Constitution; and,
3. We would reduce the budget back to 1990 levels of spending;
4. The government (Federal, State and Local) would still collect the following taxes and fees:

Accounts Receivable Tax
Automobile Registration Tax
Building Permit Tax
Capital Gains Tax
CDD/CID Tax
CDL License Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax – (Nearly Equal to the US Department of Defense Budget pre 9/11)
Court Fines (Indirect Taxes)
Dog License Tax
Death Tax
Estate Tax
Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA)
Fishing License Tax
Food License Tax
Fuel Permit Tax
Gasoline Tax (42 Cents Per Gallon) - (Nearly Equal to the US Department of transportation budget)
Hunting License Tax
Inventory Tax
Liquor Tax
Local Income Tax
Luxury Taxes
Marriage License Tax
Medicare Tax
Parking Meters
Property Tax – (Used to pay for local schools and other local usage)
Real Estate Tax
Septic Permit Tax
Service Charge Taxes
Social Security Tax
Road Usage Taxes (Truckers)
Sales Taxes
Recreational Vehicle Tax
Road Toll Booth Taxes
School Tax
State Income Tax
State Unemployment Tax (SUTA)
Telephone Federal Excise Tax
Telephone Federal, State and Local Surcharge Taxes
Telephone Minimum Usage Surcharge Tax
Telephone Recurring and Non-Recurring Charges Tax
Telephone Usage Charge Tax
Toll Bridge Taxes
Toll Tunnel Taxes
Traffic Fines
Trailer Registration Tax
Utility Taxes
Vehicle License Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Watercraft Registration Tax
Well Permit Tax
Workers Compensation Tax
And, Import taxes (Tariffs)

So, there would be plenty of revenue to operate the government without the personal income tax. In fact, after the IRS collects the personal income tax and pays for operating itself and pays interest on borrowed money there is nothing left. The IRS does not contribute to operating other Federal Government departments. So, the real question is, “what will you do with all of that extra money you get to keep?”

sean57, regarding Ron Paul 1040 tax elimination

Most people cannot understand complicated threads on this subject. But one thing most people do understand is a reasonably simple illustration on how something can work. It’s referred to as putting the subject matter into laymen terms.

When this subject has come up for me, I simply respond in the following manor, and it always satisfies the parties who are questioning the soundness of Ron Paul’s claim he wants to get rid of the IRS. That is, he does not want our labor to be taxed. My explanation to them goes like this (believe me, you have their attention at this point);

I hold up my right hand with all five fingers extended and say “the government basically collects taxes in these FIVE CATAGORIES, pointing to my five extended fingers on my right hand. Those five categories are as follows;

Finger # 1) IMPORT TAXES; which is a tax on everything that is imported, you know products from China, Japan, etc, etc. There response is usually OH YEH, everything comes from China now days (There hope builds, as they now can see the Government will not be without needed revenue). Then I pull that first finger down leaving only four standing.

Finger #2) EXPORT TAXES; which is a tax on everything that is exported, you know products we export to Europe, Japan, etc, etc) There response is usually OH,.. OK, (There hope continues to build, as they understand the Government now has a second source of revenue coming in). Then I pull that second finger down leaving only three standing.

Finger #3) DUTIES; which is a tax on all alcohol, tobacco, and firearms, etc, etc, sold in this country (Now there getting pumped and realize the Government has lots of sources of revenue coming in). Then I pull that third finger down leaving only two standing.

Note: I usually throw in at this point that the above three tax categories are all found in the constitution! Then I go on;

Finger #4) CORPORATE TAXES; which are taxes on Corporate Profits. (At this point there voicing their opinion by stating the Government should have plenty of revenue through taxes). Then I clinch the deal, so to speak, as I only have one finger left standing.

Finger #5) 1040 TAXES ON YOUR LABOR; I tell them Ron Paul believes that this tax is Unconstitutional, because you don’t get a paycheck for doing nothing. That you had to give something for that paycheck, which is you trading your labor for money, so in reality there is no gain or profit, and therefore no tax should be due. THIS IS THE TAX, Ron Paul wants to eliminate. Their immediate response has been, WELL I’M FOR THAT!

Remember most Americans are fair minded, and just want to know that Ron Paul is being realistic when he says that he wants to eliminate the IRS. Remember, Ron Paul is ONLY talking about eliminating the IRS taxes on your 1040 labor.

If you learn this technique, the above can all be explained in just a couple of minutes, and I guarantee you,.. you have won a convert.

Hope this helps!

that's where I found it (after Googling Ron Paul personal Income tax)

I just realized if you put a link in the subject, you can't click link, so here it is again: www.ontheissues.org

At one point...

Even Glenn Beck agreed with Ron Paul about that particular statement.

You tube it... Glenn Beck agrees with Ron Paul about cutting income tax and still making revenues equivalent to 10 years ago.

Here you go

It's pretty easy.

In 2008 (estimated) the federal revenue from income tax is 1.25 trillion dollars, total revenues are 2.66 trillion

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...

So...if you remove the amount of money they recieved from the income tax, they would have collected 1.41 trillion (2.66-1.25)

Total revenues in 1997 were 1.495 trillion

http://origin.www.gpoacce...

Basically...Dr. Paul was very close with this estimate.

CBO Website

http://www.cbo.gov/budget...

Here's a good link. It shows in 2007 the government collected $1163.5B in personal income tax with a total revenue of $2568.2B. The difference is $1404.7B. On the spending tables it shows in 1998 total expendatures are $1652.7. We would have to go back to 1992 to reach the $1404B number. Still not too bad. If the $237.1B of interest paid in 2007 were included the number is reached in 1998.

The numbers are real close.

data

You know, I've only heard the Doc say it. I would also like to see some data references on it. I don't doubt it for a minute though. Maybe the campaign has a reference, if there's still anyone there on 'staff'.

Is that you must get rid of the Fed too. The Fed loans the US government "money" at interest. The IRS is there to collect the interest payments. None of the income from the IRS actually goes to providing any service that the government provides.
