Getting back to our constitutional roots
The debate about the intentions of our founding fathers in regard to religion has been debated here before. My personal opinion is that our founding fathers never intended for religion and faith to have no part to play in government, but for government to have no influence or control over the excercise of religion or faith.
So, with that in mind, I've been studying our Constitutional roots and the opinions of our founders as shown by the other writings by and about them. In my studying, I've come across a video that I'd like to share as supporting evidence for my opinion. It is called Keys to Good Government: Wallbuilders
Please take the time to watch it, it's only an hour long. There are some excellent points that support the fact that our government was founded by men who, for the most part, had a strong grounding & belief in judeo-christian values.
If you are one of those who have an opinion contrary to mine and believe that our country was founded by men who did not believe in the importance of judeo-christian values, I invite you to watch the documentary as well and please comment on it.
I believe in a thing or two. I believe in God, and in my country. I believe we'll never get back to the form of self governance we were intended to enjoy until we understand who the men who formed our government were, what they believed, and why they believed it. I think the good Dr. believes in that too.
**the documentary Keys to Good Government: Wallbuilders is available on Netflix for instant watching too. And no, I'm not a Netflix employee nor do I have any financial interst in them.

Let me explain my post a bit further.
The point I'm making here, with historical facts mind you, is that our founding fathers laid the framework for our country and our states using Judeo-Christian values as their guide.
I most certainly agree that our freedoms, and the law which protects them, is the most important thing all of us need to concentrate on.
What I want to clear up is the misguided notion that somehow our highest laws are devoid of the presence of faith in the Judeo-Christian values upon which they were created.
You don't have to believe in Christ as I do, that's your perrogative. BUT, our Constitution was in fact founded by people who did believe in Christ by and large. You need to stop trying to strip the foundation of the highest law of our country away.
Colonial Times
There were about 1500 flavors of Protestant religions being practiced in the Colonies when the Constitution was debated and drafted. 1500!
The slant that is being offered today is that in order to be moral and honest, one much have a religion. Thomas Paine was an atheist, and Jefferson detested the blind dogma of religion that often produced illogical thinking the masses, when in the hands of those few who would use it for their own ends.
They set out to create freedom for every individual to practice their spirituality as they saw fit, unfettered by the Church of London or Rome, who in reality, have murdered more people in the name of God than any other cause.
Those who wish to practice religion in America and honor one's faith, and support a free society, those of faith must come to grips with freedom of religion, and freedom FROM religion, as guaranteed by the Constitution.
The message is freedom
not religion.
looking for common ground
I respect your right to be as religious as you want, but please be realistic. I have NO expectation of persuading you to give up religion, why do you care if I take it up or not? I do not really care about the religious preferences of our Founding Fathers, it is their political savvy I admire. I am becoming increasingly resentful of the nearly constant insinuation that those of us who are not Christian are less than those of you who are. I believe what I believe, it is between me and my creator (the term you will note our Founding Fathers settled on) and what you believe is between you and your creator. We are one species under our creator, but one nation under the Constitution. PLEASE be respectful of non-Christians right to be whatever we believe is GOOD and TRUE, even if it is not your bible and your concept of diety.
I passed a sign yesterday: "24 hour prayer vigil. Christians pray here" and it gave a time and date. WHY were only Christians invited? If you all understood how much you look like "Islamic Jihadists" at your extreme fringe, perhaps you would stick to politics and leave the prosyletizing alone.
