Yes, the steel will come from China and most likely contain some part of the twin towers steel that Bush sent them to give it some value.
When all is said and done, old Bloody George and his gang, will fall 110 stories deeper into the pit of Hell to be forever with their father the devil.
You mean the "one cent coin" --- the USA does not mint nor never has minted "pennies".
But yes, they are political, in the same way the the price of gold is political: eliminating them would be a stark admission on the government's part of the persistent and insidious nature of the inflation they have inflicted on us, just like letting the price of gold rise does the same thing.
Actually, to be precise, they are one cent and five cent coins --- the "penny" is a denomination of coin in Britain, but never has been issued by the USA.
Anyway, I wish they would already stop making the damned things! I can never understand the hidebound conservatism of Americans when it comes to our coins and currency --- they'll walk around with pocketsful of quarter dollars and wallets stuffed with $1 bills, but refuse to use half-dollars and $2 bills, even though they are demonstrably more efficient to use.
If we had kept up with inflation since the 1930's, our smallest coin today would be the 25 cent piece, and our smallest bill would the the $20. Our circulating currency is totally out of whack with reality, as almost any foreigner who has visited the USA will tell you. But we all take it for granted, as impractical as it is.
So they stopped backing the dollar with gold in the 1970's.
Now they want to stop putting what was left of worth into the money. We will now be on pure monopoly money, completely and utterly worthless. What a joke....
We actually are on a "Better than Gold Standard". Because if it costs nearly double to make pennies and nickels due to their metal value..... WE ALL HAVE TO USE Nickels and PENNIES ONLY, and they are inflation proof now?? Make sure you ask your employer to now pay you in pennies...and you immediately get a raise! You can double your money.
This is just another violation of the 1792 Coin Act. Only gold and silver are to be used in our coins. To use anything else is fraud and punishable by death.
I wouldn't be surprised if one day our coins are made of plastic. And eventually I'm sure there are plans to go completely digital, so there are no materials needed and just computer power. Besides, once our money goes digital it would be much easier for the government to own your @$$ whenever they want. Heh, the local PD could probably freeze every virtual penny you own by pressing one single button..
I have a handful of those. They are the steel 1943 pennies which replaced the copper ones of the same year. I believe they needed copper for the war effort.
Steel Pennies?

Damn, I wish I didn't sell
Monopoly game at my garage sale.
valueless
I couldn't care less. I don't want to hold federal reserve notes or present-day coins. Pennies and nickels are practically valueless anyway.
hahaha

Steel???
Guess they'll be made in China.
no, just made in the 1940s...
Actually, a 2009 end-date for the Lincoln cent isn't a bad idea as it gives it a nice 100-year end.
I just wish they'd ditch the paper FRN "dollar" for a coin in the old way of Morgans, Peaces, Eisenhowers, etc. No dinky little brass crap or SBAs.
That and bring back the Buffalo nickel. Nothing against Jefferson, but that design is crap.
SO????????

They made steel pennies in WWII
Has it really come to this already....let's hope they are stainless steel.
