Certainly sounds like it from the tenor of the article. He could be an important ally.

This has to be the reason for their behavior (the RNC). There is no way they could really be this disconnected from reality.

McCain is the "Gerald Ford" of '08, designed from the start to lose to Obama. GWB gets to leave in January and dump the entire mess he's created into the Democrat's hands. Republican's ride back into power in '12 with a Romney-esque candidate shouting, "See... we told ya they couldn't handle it".

McCain is just "taking one for the team". The closest he'll come to the Oval Office is with one of the regularly scheduled tour groups.

why did 1/4 of republicans not vote for John McCain?
