Found a great site/discussion board for those into surviving.
This site is really packed with great info just in case the crap does hit the fan. For those who haven't got CLUE what you would do if all hell breaks loose this site is a must.
Great people at this site. Even a section for the ladies into surviving.

#3 & don't let them
scare you about it being robbed.
If you are in an area depending on city water, you want an alternative immediately. A trailer would not allow you to have much food storage and you would also require gas to move around.
Keep your gas tanks full ( and extra gas if necessary) so you can get to the retreat.
Also, have a plan B, C, & D.
You cannot survive w/o water and if you go to a shelter, then you get the bus to FEMA camp.
So glad you started this topic.
My husband and I are in our late 50's in average health. Our home is paid for and in a high population area. Here are my options.
1) Sell as much as possible and leave the country.
(really don't want to leave)
2) Stay put try work with neighbors etc when it gets bad.
3) Keep this house and buy a small cabin near a lake and national park 3 hrs
away and stock it with supplies, it's on half an acre.
4) Buy 10 acres with fruit trees and no house.
5) Buy Conversion van for mobility and could live in it.
What do you think would be best option or have I forgotten any. Thanks, for ideas. Never in my life did I ever dream we would be facing such a future.
I must have been in a coma all these years. Peace
None of the above? Your

Your correct option would be to buy the 10 acres with the fruit trees and build a home there, while simultaneously starting a garden, arming yourself, building a water well (or cistern), making friends with your rural neighbors, and raising small-scale livestock.

and find others like yourself and let them know. You can't survive with only two of you. Seek strenght in small groups if possible.

We can all say what needs to be done, but who here led by example today?
I've read about people's
I've read about people's "get away places" continually getting robbed and ransacked.
For number 3, keep that in mind.
Another suggestion for you to consider is to get a trailer of some sort; pop-up or a big one. Then when it's time to go, just hitch up the trailer and head to your 10 acres!
I guess we need more information
Do you have room to grow your own food on your land you have now? Do you have money for a second place? Do you like where you are now? Good neighbors now? We live on 40 acres with fruit trees that are now finally producing some, and have some animals and can hunt here, but we live 30 miles from town, doesn't make it good for barter, with price of gas, if we can get it in the future, although we do have neighbors in various states of mind, abilities, etc. Do you know how to grow, hunt, etc?
We have room for a small garden
where we live now. We could buy a small place. Where we are is nice but there are a lot of people in the area. Our current neighbors are ok to say hello to etc. Don't know how they will be if things get crazy. My husband can garden, we don't know how to hunt but I bought a small shotgun, willing to learn. I have thought about a trailer we live in a cold climate and was thinking the cabin with a wood stove would be helpful for winter. Thanks, for your ideas. Peace
A few opinions from my
A few opinions from my perspective--I'm writing a book on this topic, so, while I'm no survival expert (the first rule should be there are no survival experts), I spend a lot of time thinking about it.
My .02:
1. Fresh water is more important than food, always.
2. Hunting guns that hit what they are aimed at over a long distance are much better than commando-type semi-automatic playthings that burn up ammo.
3. It is as undesirable to live in a desert alone,300 miles from the nearest major city, as it is to live in a metropolitan area. You want to live someplace rural with a Mayberry lifestyle, and neighbors who are farmers.
4. You should ideally stockpile grain and/or grow it on your land at the same time. If you don't have time to do both simultaneously, at least do one or the other.
5. Plant fruit or nut trees.
6. Learn basic carpentry. The best way to learn basic carpentry is to jump into building something like a barn, and learn by trial and error.
