Last night I hammered "The Hammer", Tom Delay

I thought I would spice up the daily paul with my story from last night:

With my heels on, we were nose to nose. His deep blue eyes were staring directly into mine. I didn't blink. I made my eyes wider and leaned forward. The freedom message was flowing through my veins and I felt the power of liberty urging me to act. I was about to have a foreign policy debate with former majority house leader, Tom Delay, also known as "the hammer." Little did he know that "they" call me "the ronpauler." He thought he could hammer his toe-the-party-line ideas with me, but he had met his match. I hammered back, and it was beautiful.

Tom Delay was in town to pitch his new grass roots organization called Coalition for the Conservative Majority. Little did he know that several Ron Paul supporters would show up. (Yes, we are everywhere.) He gave a powerpoint talk about there being no excitement or inspiration in the conservative movement. He cannot figure out why. He wants to create this so-called powerful coalition to communicate on the internet and blogs, to counter the liberal left. He pulled a Constitution out of his pocket and said "This is what conservatives live by." He then went on to discuss how we need to support John McCain and win the war on terror. Several people stood up and declared they will no longer support Republicans who refuse to follow the constitution. Delay said he hated McCain, but was going to vote for him. He couldn't believe there were conservatives in the room who were actually going to stand by their principles and not jump on board.

It was hard to keep from laughing. Many of you probably have seen the latest plea from Newt. He says the republicans are going down unless there is real change, and fast. His recommendations included changing the way the census is conducted and moving air traffic control to space. Woweee! That changes everything! People like Newt and Delay do not understand that the Republicans are going down because they don't act like conservatives, especially on foreign policy. Newt has encouraged big government entitlements and believes global warming. These people are our leaders?

So, at the end of the meeting, I work my way over and decide I'm going to debate Tom Delay. I would never have had the courage to do this if it weren't for thinking of Ron Paul and all those years he fought for us.

My question, "When do you think the republicans will go back to the conservative and constitutional principle of a non-interventionist foreign policy? You know, like George W. campaigned on in 2000 when he said the US should not police the world and engage in nation building?" With a smile, he let me continue, "I know a lot of conservatives who are against preemptive war in the name of democracy. We should have taken out UBL and secured our borders. We had no right to occupy and democratize two countries. This is not conservative. The Republicans should not assume that all conservatives are happy with the Iraq war. It should have never happened. This is one major reason why so many Republicans are leaving the party and why we will never win in November. Why can't you see that?"

Surprisingly, he actually agreed with my point on not taking over Afghanistan and Iraq, but went into the usual talking points. "Don't you want to win the war on terror? Saddam was a bad person."

I said, "There are a hundred Saddams around the world. Are we going to attack every one of them?" He said, "If we have to, then yes." I said, "How are we going to pay for that?" He said that we just would. I pressed on how are we going to pay for war with 100 countries and he just kept leaning in further toward me trying to stare me down. His cordial grin turned to a John McCain-like I-want-to-kill-you look. Since he had previously mentioned my district's congressional candidate, I pointed out that we Republicans could get back all the Reagan democrats if Republicans ran on a platform of low taxes, low spending, and a non-interventionist foreign policy.

I then moved on to the convention. "Why, sir, cannot the Republicans have a debate about foreign policy? Ron Paul represents a lot of us and he needs to be heard." Delay said, "That will never happen. There will be no discussion." I said, "I guess it's President Obama then."

Needless to say, our discussion was over. He left the room shortly thereafter. I couldn't believe that I just had a debate with Tom Delay. I felt liberated and energized and I screamed "woooohoo" all the way home. Who says politics is boring.

debating delay

nice job!

Never knew DeLay was such a lightweight.

Most politicians of DeLay's ilk are skilled enough to deflect any substantive debate. I only wish you'd been able to get a good video recording of his evisceration.

Duff, you deserve a helluva lot of credit

for not only doing this but for how you conducted yourself. Delay is down but not out, you know his Rolodex (can't imagine him with contact software) is chock-full of GOP rainmakers he stays in touch with.

Because you brought him facts, directly, sanely, and without apology or dilution, you helped personify and cement the Ron Paul revolution as something very serious to consider. Hopefully he'll either reconsider his policies since he's trying to start an organization, or more likely he will lose some sleep over your comments. Either way, thanks for representing us so well.

Thanks for making my day

If all of us...just those of us who have heard Dr. Paul's message...put everyone like Tom Delay in their rightful and Constitutional place AS OUR CIVIL SERVANTS and held them accountable or at least made them show their obvious aversion to the truth and the facts I think we'd gain a lot more traction with the public at large. Which, I am certain, is why the corporate media decided long ago to minimize Dr. Paul's opportunities to educate the masses about just who is running the show, and just who ought to be running the show.

Great job, duff! I so wish I had been there to see the look on his face. That would have been fantastic, and just the thought of it really made me smile.

Well done

Express yourself, no matter who is your opponent! Great job, keep it up

You kicked neocon ass!

Outstanding. You sounded like a true stateswoman (I'm assuming you're a woman with heels on). I'm sure Dr. Paul would be very proud of you.

D-Lay's failure to even engage in substantive, rational debate reminds me of some of the disinfo trolls on Daily Paul.

Feels Good, Doesn't It?

I only vote for libertarians. It doesn't matter if they can win, it only matters that I stand up for freedom.

IMissLiberty

You just proved that Delay

represents the liberal left and NOT the conservative right. He is just another Neo-commie.

Good job!
