the Libertarian Party nominee IS...
believed to be Bob Barr of Georgia. His press conference is Monday to announce, so they say...
Bad idea.
Ron can't run for the LP nomination without giving up all GOP convention opportunities -- no possibility for a speech, no possibility for his delegates to prevail in a brokered convention. That's because the LP convention nominates their candidate BEFORE the GOP convention.
We don't have the time to
We don't have the time to wait 2-3 election cycles to work from the ground up. We need an immediate splash so we can sweep through in the next cycle. That is having RP as President. I am completely for a third party run and my stimulas check is his to run on. If all RP supporters handed over their stimulas, we'd set records.
That would just be insanity.
That would just be insanity. No third party candidate can win in this country, not even Ron Paul, and we would be giving up our only Constitutional champion in Congress.

You could also ask.
Should Ron Paul give up his congressional seat in Congress to run and lose as a third party candidate.
NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO
is the answer by the way.
Are you sure he'd lose his
Are you sure he'd lose his seat? How?
The "LBJ Law" allows him to run for President and Congress simultaneously...why do you think he'll lose his seat switching parties? I think his constituents like him and would re-elect him on any ticket.

When the time is right
Ron Paul will know what he is going to do. If he is willing to give up his seat and put all of his eggs in one basket, then ok. We are going to have to be patient through September. Do any of us have that patience? Just stick this out through September and try to get him the nomination. Remember the letter from the European American about How Ron Paul Will Win. He might win. Let's try it. Let's go for it.
Truth or DARE!!!
Freedom is not FREE!!
Let's look at the truth. Can we raise 100,000,000 to 150,000,000 in two months time? I think we can. I truly beleive that a money raising venture could be put together to support and elect Ron Paul. I also think that the grassroots would have to convince him to do a Perot Infomercial to finally get his agenda across. Is anyone inclined to help take this on? We all know that he is the best candidate for this time in our lives.
What happens if we raise the money and he doesn't run? Could we then create a organization that would help elect Ron Paul type individuals and use the money raised for that purpose?
My DARE is this!
Raise the money! Dare Ron Paul to take it and run third party! I think with that amount of cash on hand he would do it. He KNOWS he is the last hope we have at this time in our lives. He also knows that the economy is not going to make it until 2012.
Just my $0.02 worth.
Baldwin's VP is Castle
Mr Castle is a lawyer from Memphis, TN
IF RP ran in a 3rd party (and I think it is highly unlikely)
would he no longer be able to serve in congress?
Only if he ran Third Party
Only if he ran Third Party for his seat and lost? Not sure...

The main problem
with a third party run is MONEY. So unless you can figure out how to get him a couple hundred million dollars, it wont happen. Now, if it did happen then I would say Yes go for it.
I still believe that Ron Paul is the last chance for this country. If McClintbama gets it, we are finished. And Ron Pauls congressional seat won't make much difference.
This is obvious...we do not
This is obvious...we do not have the sort of Congress that the Founders intended--we have a Congress that rubber stamps the wishes of the Commander in Chief.
Ron Paul is a great man in his Congressional role, but he's outnumbered by socialists over 500-to-1. We need him in the White House.
Money Bombs could generate enough cash to get him there.

And Ballot Access?
Am i right? We would have had to start months ago.
Between the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party
and smaller state parties in various states, Ron Paul could get on all fifty ballots tomorrow if he said yes. Both the CP and LP would nominate him in a heartbeat, as well as numerous state parties (such as the Alaskan Independence Party, etc.). Lots of small parties have ballot access right now. The only way we'd need to work on ballot access is for a straight "Independent" run.
No
I think the more effective strategy is to transform the Republican party to become more libertarian. It's too difficult for libertarians to win elections, or even be heard, when running under the Libertarian Party. If he runs under the Libertarian Party, then he will be sending the wrong message to libertarians. Libertarians should be discouraged from joining the Libertarian Party, because it's just not an effective strategy for the libertarian goal.
Did you vote for Bush or any
Did you vote for Bush or any Congressman who approved the Patriot Act? Do you know any libertarians who did the same?
If the answer is "yes", it reveals the flaw in your above statements.

no good answer
It's a tough call. I switched from Lib to Rep to vote for RP, now I'm debating whether to go back.
Until RP '08, the only attention the libertarian voice got was through the LP (and the thinktanks like Cato.org, Mises.org).
I used to think a libertarian wing within the GOP was just not going to happen. But with RP's success it has really given me pause. I'm pretty sure he got more votes in this primary than any Libertarian candidate ever got.
Much of what the Republican Party currently stands for is really contrary to my views. But RP has been able to stand it. It's inspiring. I guess I can stomach being a Republican as long as it is qualified... Ron Paul Republican.
On the other hand, if being a "Ron Paul Republican" means being associated with truthers, that's kind of hard to take too.
But... the jury is still out in my particular case.
Look into the RLC
Republican Liberty Caucus too, which is libertarian.

Eric Dondero's group? I had
Eric Dondero's group? I had some exposure to the RLC a few years back when I was in the FSP. I saw no evidence of libertarianism and many of them supported Bush.
They trafficked on Paul's name (even then he was a celebrity), but I don't think he had much to do with the organization.

This is not about Ron Paul. "revolution" isn't a stupid PR campaign slogan, and the principles of liberty, the restoration of the Constitution and the Rule of Law is what we're about. Dr Paul has already done enough by going to the convention. It's on us now. From every county board seat to US Senate seat, and everywhere in between, we need to be putting candidates up ... for this election, for 2010, 2012 and beyond. We need to go to city council meetings and demand solutions to city finance with out property taxes that nullify property ownership rights. We need to make a habit every time we're at the bank, to ask for Liberty dollars, request they stock them, and explain our dissatisfaction with the Federal Reserve System. If millions of us stand up for principle in our daily lives, and we participate in our government, we will win our freedom.
But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. - James 1:25
Simply No.
If we can't get him the GOP ticket through a brokered convention then no he most certainly does not need to run third party and give up his congress seat!!. I would rather he stay in congress and we all help put other people like him in congress as well.

We can all say what needs to be done, but who here led by example today?
Write In
Dr. Paul needs to stay a Republican. He has explained the problems facing a third party candidate in Presidential elections. We here in his district will be re-electing him to Congress. A sizeable write in vote on the national level would make an immediate statement to the Republican Party. They're already quite aware of the Revolution.
After a couple more years of business as usual in Washington, the Revolution will gain control of the Republican Party if not the country.
Viva la Revolucion.
Nope Nope
No.
Like he has said, "it takes someone like Ross Perot" who has the money to run on a Independent ticket.
But, you said Libertarian, about the same funds available? And, the States make it "difficult to impossible" to get on the ballot. This is the typical response and that is why.
I have wrote about this before.
Ron Paul could not run for president ,But we could draft Ron Paul for a write in candidate,Think about if there were at least a million of us who voted for Paul now if each got 10 people to vote for Ron Paul we would have it made except Im not sure how we would collect delegates for a write in
I don't think it'd
I don't think it'd necessarily be a bad idea.... but look at how much we're getting from staying in the republican race... it'd be best if he could stay in till the convention and then if he doesn't get the nomination he runs as a libertarian... he'd get at least 1 million votes...
He should run Constitution
He should run Constitution Party with Chuck Baldwin as his V.P.
We're getting NOTHING from the Republican Party. Hell, they don't even deserve a man like Ron Paul.

DOESNT'T MATTER FOR ME...
I'm gonna vote for him regardless of party....
While I can't tell anyone how and who to vote for, I think those who have voted for Ron Paul should write him in.
He should get those million votes cast for him in the primaries.
He should get those and the Libertarian and Constitution Party Votes as well.
At least, I hope so.
Enough Already
1. It's not about Ron Paul.
2. He won't get on the ballot because of "sore loser" laws.
3. Third party candidates are not allowed in all 50 states either.
4. It's not about Ron Paul.
5. RP says he has no desire to do this.
6. He has done a lot already, let him rest and do his job in congress.
7. It's not about Ron Paul.
8. We have a 3rd party candidate and I know RP will endorse him: Dr Chuck Baldwin.
9. Write ins won't accomplish anything either.
10. It's not about Ron Paul.
This site is called the daily what?
Do not minimize the Doctor. Many of us were clueless sheep until we found him.
Of course it's about Ron Paul. Nobody else has a track record of consistently principled voting like he does. He is the standard bearer of this movement, the ideal we all seek to achieve in our own lives.
The last true statesman. And until somebody else puts in the time and shows himself to be as unassailable by greed and corruption as Ron Paul has been, he will always be the shining star of this movement.
'Live for yourself, there's no one else more worth living for,
Begging hands and bleeding hearts

not about him
No, it is not about Ron Paul. It is about the message, and Ron Paul is currently the most visible messenger.
Get yourself involved in local politics. Get elected locally. Personally spread the message. It is about you, lpviper.
Jesse may take up the Lib Party.
Then we can still try and get RP for the Rep Party. If we don't, at least we can have a fun convention. I would like Jesse. He is much better than Hellary Obamanation Mcalligator arms
Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?
fuck off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FUCK OFF!!!!!!!!!
Well

ummmm.... Was that directed

What is the point of this constant drum beat?
Ron Paul running as the Libertarian candidate is the worst thing he could do.
1.) He would be forced to give up his congressional seat just to lose as the Libertarian candidate. (If a miracle happened and he won, he would be a Libertarian president with a Democrat and Republican Congress.
2.) It would become very difficult to support Ron Paul Republicans if Ron Paul were no longer a Republican.
3.) What will you tell the Republican Ron Paul delegates?
4.) The Libertarian Party is currently in complete turmoil and just as infected with socialists, liberals and communist as the Republican and Dem parties.
This is just a short list.
That's why he should do it
That's why he should do it after the September convention. The odds he will beat McCain are extremely low--indeed his odds of winning the presidency are better running on a Third Party than running Republican.
He's essentially just in it now for education of the public--a good plan. There will never be a Republican President Ron Paul-you need to make your peace with that.
A better party choice when running Third Party, however, would be the Constitution Party.

Needed another option
The Doc has said 'no thanks'. If he announces that he'll seek the LP nomination, then I'll vote for him as the LP candidate (if he got the nomination).
YES!!
He definitely should.
No Way!
For anyone who thinks this whole Revolution was about RP becoming president think again. Simply having RP as president would not be enough. We have a much bigger job ahead of us that will last generations.
We are fighting a system that has been around for at least 5000 years. The system I refer to is a parasitic banking system which supports aristocracy and plutocracy. The ultimate goal is to get control of our money supply. Once that is done we can actually be free.
Well Said!

He could get full ballot
He could get full ballot access....
They have done it 3 times before.
And he would also...
be required to give up his congressional seat so he could lose as a Libertarian presidential candidate. Exactley how does that help?
How would he have to give up his seat?
If he does not run for President in Texas, he can keep his seat.
Exactly how does it help
Exactly how does it help having one constitutionalist Congressman among 534 socialists?
Even if he holds no public office next year at all, he's a bigger political leader now than the other intellectual midgets on Capitol Hill. The movement can handle him not being president--why can you not handle the idea of him not being a Representative? He has transcended that by now.

Kevin Tuma knows all?
"The movement can handle him not being president--why can you not handle the idea of him not being a Representative?"
Ron Paul, with over two decades political experience, says he doesn't want to leave the Republican party. Kevin Tuma, who are you to presume you know what is best for Ron Paul?
I'm not being presumptious,
I'm not being presumptious, you are---Ron Paul has said he is responsive to his ideas and wishes of his followers. Most of his "nos" on this subject are prompted by mainstream media badgering--it's obvious the political establishment is terrified of a successful Ron Paul Third Party candidacy.
Personally I'd like to see him become President, or at least give it a good shot. In order to do that, he'll have to run Third Party or Independent. The other strategy is a pipe dream.
