We need Ron Paul Republicans to run for Sheriff.
Great news about our congressional and senate candidates, but let's also keep in mind just how important local offices can be for securing our liberty.
From the article: "County sheriffs in Wyoming have scored a big one for the 10th Amendment and states rights. The sheriffs slapped a federal intrusion upside the head and are insisting that all federal law enforcement officers and personnel from federal regulatory agencies must clear all their activity in a Wyoming County with the Sheriff’s Office. Great information, what are
Great information, what are the pre -reqs for becoming Sheriff?
Police, military training OR votes alone? Odds are by city, state and so on BUT overall I do agree LOCAL is where it is at.
I am the campaign manager for a local ron paul candidate here in Fresno, Ca and know exactly WHY taking the country back by attacking its knees versus its head is a much better plan.
SSHHH don't tell them though.... its a secret (-;

Normally...
You will need police training, 5 years minimum experience to be taken seriously, preferably in a higher position. At least around here, you couldn't even think of running for sheriff without those qualifications MINIMUM, However I do agree. Having RP Repubs as Sheriffs would be a HUGE step towards individual freedom. Don't forget to vote for RP Judges as well!!!
Unfortunately the "case"
Unfortunately the "case" cited in that article never really happened.
I posted this article with a similar comment a couple months ago. While I was researching this to help people run for office I found out that there is no record of the case or a decision. The quotes from the judge (who isn't ever named) are untraceable. The sheriff may very well have done this, but it was some time ago. He wasn't even sheriff of the county when this article was published.
This case is another one of the "patriot myths" that keeps distracting people. It looks like it was started as a myth in the late 90's. After that a few news sources have more or less republished the same story keeping the myth alive. The Keene Free Press is just the latest to fall for the hoax. The kernel of truth behind the myth is that in '93 the INS raided the home of two American citizens because they thought they were illegal aliens. The couple told the sheriff that they would drop the charges if he would ensure that this wouldn't happen again. The sheriff seems to have done what the article says he did (about a decade ago) but it was never even brought to court.
I think its a great idea to run for sheriff and other local offices but if you intend to do it because you think this is a real case then you will just be wasting your time.
Actually this is a true
Actually this is a true story it got quit a bit of publicity in the 90s. The courts routinely suppress cases they don't want the general public to learn about. Like tax cases especially where people win against the IRS...
I did some research on it back then but don't know if I Still have the data.
The best thing to do would be to call that sheriffs office and see if he is still sheriff or find him and ask him.
Another sheriff here in Idaho was elected in Owyhee county to get rid of the BLM who were hassling Ranchers and he did just that.

run for local office
I was fortunate to attend a private lunch w/ RP last Fall. He told me to get involved and get elected to a local office.
I found out that the town where I live has not had an election since the '70s - they have simply appointed each other since then! I filled out the forms to be a candidate, and instead of having an election they simply persuaded one of the old-timers who has been appointed forever to step down. Now I am on town council.
In my county, I found out the surveyor elected position has been appointed for the past couple decades. The guy resigns each year and they appoint him the next day. Due to the enthusiastic RP presence at local GOP events, the surveyor filed the forms to be on the ballot next time, and he will run unopposed.
Particularly in rural and low population counties, many of these elected positions can be easily taken. These are county gov't jobs with a budget and staff, so you can simply rely on staff to do most of the job. Even the coroner position is like this! In some states, the coroner is the only person in the county who can arrest the sheriff for his misdeeds.
Congrats on being elected to the council.

that's funny
because i was just talking to my meetup organizer about this very same topic. i said if we got enough Paul people to become sheriff the IRS wouldn't be allowed outside of Washington DC.
Is there a new Sheriff in town?
We will be running a magnificent lady for Sheriff in 2010 here in North Central Pennsylvania. She was a member of the South African military back in the 1980's and understands all too well the abuses of big government. The way things are "set up" in this particular Pennsylvania County she will be a shoe in for that elected office. She is a Ron Paul Republican / strict Constitutionalist, staunchly pro-gun and pro-property rights and has vowed NEVER to let the federal government into our County when she holds the title of Sheriff. Now for the other 66 Counties in Pennsylvania, well that's another issue entirely.
yep
We need to work on this too.

just because LEOs are given certain powers doesn't mean they have to use them.
