Chicago Sun-Times: Term "manifesto" province of communists, anarchists?
Chicago Sun-Times religious columnist Cathleen Falsani references RP's book in a sickening, yet not unexpected, way. The first paragraph sends the not-so-subtle message:
Quote:
Mao Zedong published one. So did Ted Kaczynski, Ron Paul, and Valerie Solanas, the radical feminist writer who shot Andy Warhol.
The communists had one. And so did the anarchists, the humanists and the founding fathers of the Unites States of America (although they called theirs a "declaration," not a "manifesto.")
Now the Evangelicals have one, too.
Earlier this week, a group of more than 70 clergy, leaders and theologians released The Evangelical Manifesto, a 20-page declaration reclaiming the word "Evangelical" (with a capital "E," they insist) from the pit of political realm where, they say, it is in danger of losing its sacred meaning.
The word "manifesto" conjures to my mind images of wild-eyed extremists with a rusty mimeograph machine and an ax to grind -- the opposite, I'm guessing, of what these influential American Christians had in mind when they set out to right their religious ship.

Manifesto The word
It's called marketing in the business, guys. Example: there is/used to be a scaffolding company I noticed on every construction site they had the large board with their company name on bolted to the street side for potential new business. It was always fixed upside down. I bet every passer-by made the effort to read it. Job done!
'I always think of all you canvassors and precinct leaders and delegates at the front line and caucuses.
Good luck out there &Thank you. You're a gift.
I imagine that not many,
I imagine that not many people watched Ron Pauls interview with Blitzer, where he gave the an explanation for the name?
If you did not see Ron Pauls answer look here >>>

my own mother who is extreemly open minded even said " that is a horrible name for his book. It reminds me of Hitler" and my mom has nothing against ron paul. i, on the other hand believe that it may spark a few to read it BECAUSE of the name.
I noticed,
I noticed Chicago Sun-Times and thought "Obama" ?

Well, the Sun Times should
Well, the Sun Times should know Communist words when it sees them. ;)
Seriously, though--the media is the number one problem, folks. We should be plotting a takeover of the media, not the Republican Party.

is doing a really great job of taking over the media. If you don't recognize the name, he was the one who invented the money bomb and coordinated the efforts behind the Nov 5th and Dec 16th bombs.
But he recently got a contract for a 24/7 cable tv channel for his company Break the Matrix and set up a social networking site for like minded liberty lovers.
But really, we're doing an awesome job with getting involved in politics and the like... we've got RP candidates left and right winning the nomination for the republican party and we're taking over the conventions as best we can. We might not be doing as well with the latter as we would like, but in the next few years, if we remain steadfast, we can't loose.
Should have let it go;
but, some times its hard to back down from an "Attack of Ignorance".

Just more propaganda from the Nazi Party. Hitler and his Sadist Contemporaries spewed this just before they started WWII. The Neocons hard at work trying to stop the only Patriot movement in America. Read Bush's so called "Patriot Act" and Hitlers "Enabling Act". They are one and the same, and MSM is the Ministers of Propaganda for the "New Nazi Reich". Hitler burned down the Reichstag in 1933, read your History and try not to repeat/lose those things our Forefathers have fought for; for over 200 years.

Cathleen Falsani?... Never heard of her....
Who cares what she thinks or writes.
Just spell the name right.
#1 best seller on the NYT list. It's just stuck in their craw and they can't get past it. Not knowing who Cathleen Falsani is, why would I not expect a left-based Chicago reporter to try to torpedo Ron Paul's message?
Rejoice Ron Paul People.... this is indeed a great time. Get involved. Start turning over apple carts in YOUR OWN neighborhood. That's why they call it 'grassroots'. The fuse has been lit and we await the boom!
"No army can stop an idea who's time has come...."
I think someone famous said that.
Thats exactly right
Notice the subliminal association going on. Ron Paul is listed with maniacs and killers like the Unabomber. Later, she mentions the Founders (noting that their's was a declaration not manifesto).
Pray tell, why would the author of this piece not put Ron Paul's manifesto, which is more akin to the Founders' and in fact directly references their words throughout - next to the reference to the Founder's as opposed to where she did put it next to the unsavory elements listed therein?
If anyone here thinks this is good because its a free mention of Ron Paul, please take a step back and look at the context. The power of association should not be underestimated - and this all the more so when the writing in question appears in a large urban newspaper meant for a wide and majority democrat-leaning audience.
Divide & conquer and all that...
You actually read this newspaper?
The board of directors of Sun Times Media group includes Henry Kissinger and Richard Perle.
This writer is pi$#ing on Dr. Paul? This is a surprise?
They are calling him a communist?
Perle and Kissinger are two of the biggest collectivists on the planet and you care what one of their lap dogs says about a man who actually believes in God?
She's a "religious" columnist. She works for Henry Kissinger and Richard Perle? Man, that's a reach.
Please don't read that newspaper...it only encourages them.

Sorry, wasn't intentional, popped up on my Google alerts

A Public Statement
of one's intentions....
there was also a Humanist Manifesto (blah) there are many and there
is nothing wrong with that....
Come On, lighten up folks - it's a book of ideas
(and good ones at that)
most people I am trying to get to read - are refusing -
I am going to continue and find those open to it ... no big woop -
that's the way it is... and will be for a long time.

Manifesto was a poor choice
How about a May1 march for Ron Paul? I heard people suggest that day in this forum.
A little common sense and objectivity would go a long way. The MSM is going to throw attacks RP's way regardless of right/wrong. However, their mindless attacks do not justify a poor choice for a title for a book targeted at an American audience.
I think the guy that came up with "Manifesto" is the same guy that thought running outside the GOP was a bad idea. That makes him 2-0, or is that 0-2?
I'm curious where you heard,

Do you know what day it is or is that a typo? :-P

Huh?
I don't see anything even slightly offensive about that. It doesn't say he's a communist or anarchist.
It's a free plug for Ron Paul. Appreciate it for what it is.

Attention Getter
What's the first thing you think of when you hear the word "gay"? Is it "happy, colorful and delightful," or something else?
How about when you hear "that's cool" -- are you considering the mercury level on the temperature scale?
Our perception of the meaning of words often overpowers the original intent of the word's meaning. Herein lies the problem with the accurately used term of "manifesto" for RP's book. It is the same problem the Chigago Sun-Times religion reporter tackles when the term "manifesto" is used by the Evangelicals.
Having read the full article, I think the reporter simply used an attention-getting tactic to start off her story and grab readers' curiosities.
She lumped all those people in together (yes, including RP, and the Founding Fathers) as those who have written some sort of "manifesto". She is reflecting what a lot of people, rightly or wrongly, think when they hear the word "manifesto" and questions why Evangelicals would use a loaded term in order to explain the loaded term of "evangelical" -- she goes on to explain that the word "manifesto" is much less intimidating than what we popularly associate with "manifesto" in our contemporary lexicon.
Actually, I think this is a good thing: it gets people to start viewing the word in its original context, and divorce from their minds the idea that "manifesto" automatically refers to something dangerous or bad.
Incidentally, adding to SavvyRonPaul's comment below...a manifesto is more than a mere public announcement; it usually explains past situations and a plan for future operations, and is centered around a sovereign, government, or political issue:
manifesto
1644, from It. manifesto "public declaration explaining past actions and announcing the motive for forthcoming ones," originally "proof," from L. manifestus (more definitions can be found here)
This is what I found,
This is what I found >>>
man·i·fes·to ( m²n”…-fµs“t½) n. pl. man·i·fes·toes or man·i·fes··tos 1. A public declaration of principles, policies, or intentions, especially of a political nature. v. intr. man·i·fes·toed man·i·fes·to·ing man·i·fes·toes 1. To issue such a declaration. [Italian from Latin manifestus clear, evident; See manifest ]
Paul, or the publisher, most likely chose the term
"manifesto" for marketing reasons. It ads a bit of controversiality, due to the connotation, which can help sell the book.
The Sun Times is a paper for IQs < 90
This paper can be read cover to cover in about 10 min. Its like the National Inquirer, but less respected. Read it on the toilet and then use it for its intended purpose, to wipe with.
In answer to primo1’s posting…
Idiots in society will always bring up superficial nonsense.
I’ve been fighting this patriotic fight since around the middle ’70s with many sacrifices. I’ve learned that the fools who wish with all their hearts and minds to remain as simple minded as possible constantly lash out (in a manner of speaking) with dumb stuff to avoid bonafide thought.
Fools rejoice in each other’s stupidity. They never have to sacrifice anything because they don’t stand for anything.
Wolf Blitzer referenced Communist Manifesto too
in his interview with RP last week. One weapon in their arsenal to tamp down this book's success.

Funny how it's not about Ron Paul at all but it really is. Very clever indeed. Considering the actual context. Any assumptions about what the outcome will be?
