2008/2009 will see the proliferation of all sorts of encryption. Disk encryption (encryption built directly onto the hard drive) will soon be widely available. I would imagine that we will also begin to see the encryption of data transmission relatively soon enough as well.
With all the Government snooping, identity theft, relentless lawsuits by the RIAA/MPAA, consumers are going to get tired of it and start encrypting all their stuff.
Soon enough it won't matter if the Government seizes your computer.. they won't be able to access anything on it anyway.
fuck me, bring out the external harddrives indeed. this smells like multimillion dollar lobbying at work from hollywood and music mammoths, and given the neocon agenda that dominates our lives, this seems equally opportunistic for them as well. imagine the conversations inmates are going to start having with each other in the next 10 years!

You will have to have more than these simple methods if you have vast amounts of stuff. For example All the stuff I mentioned below is kept off-site and remotely administered. There is a procedure in place to "clean" if necessary. Approx clean time 12 min. However my actual pc ... the one im on now is no slouch. It has 10 750 GB Seagate SATA internal drives and a 2 TB external NAS . The procedure is completely different. The point is you should already have a security plan in place as well as a clean plan. Not to mention ... encryption. All my drives on anything I use are encrypted. Just be smart, be safe, Know your rights, and use them. Anyone trying to come in the house and confiscate my stuff is catching 4 center mass anyway ;)

This will just be an excuse to have access to anyone's pc they want, under the guise of Law. Idiocracy here we come.....

I keep my laptop locked away in my fireproof gun safe
whenever I leave the house. Also my two duplicate external backup drives.
