Thomas what you don't understand....

...is that you don't have to believe in God to benefit from belief in God.
God is the supreme law, above man, get it? If you derive your rights from the "Almighty" government can't act against you lawfully. They are not above God, nor can they publicly say they are, this is why they want everyone to believe God is like santa claus.... a myth. Maybe God is a myth, but the concept is correct, there HAS to be a power ABOVE government or you're a SLAVE. If you don't get this, you are either completely ignorant of the history of the country, or you hate God more then you want to be free. Or believe in Freedom. Whatever it is, you are a scary individual, and no friend to the freedom movement.

Wow

Welcome home Mr. Open Tent.

Belief in higher ideals doesn't necessitate God, Christianity, Oversoul, Mount Olympus or anything of the like.

Rights don't COME from anywhere, they are agreed upon by social contract for the preservation of happiness among the members.

How can you say your rights derive from God? How would you prove that God gave them to you specifically? Do those rights go to all men or just Americans?

The power above government is the dissolution of force throughout America. THAT was the purpose of the 2nd amendment. Fact of the matter is, with the centralization of power in the US, we're losing the power over government very quickly. If the Founders believed that God would hold the government accountable, they would have been just fine with Divine Right.

Fact of the matter is, they knew government had a tendency to grow. In life, there are two types of men. Men with guns, and men who dig. We used to have the guns, now we've got the shovels.

Lets stop with the personal attacks. Your thinking another person is using logic which doesn't follow is no need to start a post naming that individual or using goofy off the wall uncalled for ad hominems to try and get the masses behind your attack. Stand on your own alone proudly, this appeal to majority crap is beneath supporters of Dr. Paul.

We're saying the same thing, in a different way

People of faith believe that their freedom is bestowed by their god, and not as a favor of the state.

I believe that my freedom is bestowed by nature.

They are easy to reconcile, actually. We both believe that free is man's natural state, since only by force can it be taken. We are both born with rights not because we have a constitution, but because we believe in this inalienable right.

Most people are sensitive enough to other's religions, I try to not insult or question the faiths of others. The same has never been returned to me in kind, however. I'm not a person of faith, and upon hearing that, many people whom I come in contact with decide that they need to sell their beliefs in a effort to convert me.

Such is the plight of the atheist, and many of us end up lashing out at people's faiths after being frustrated by years of sheer annoyance of believers.

I'm tolerant enough of religious backed creeds in relation to my country, as I know I am the minority. Endowed by their creator means something wholly different to me as to many of you, but it's just as powerful to me as it is to you.

I think "under god" should be removed from the pledge...since it wasn't in there until the 1950's...well, as a libertarian, I don't understand having to pledge alliegence before recieving an education that's cumpulsory...but that's a different story.

You must be as respectful of a man's lack of faith, if your faith is to be respected.

...ah the judgement....

...typically by those who are "believers".

I'm an atheist and have steadfastly fought for my freedom under the constitution in many ways, including serving in the armed services. despite any connotations that evokes in people, i have no regrets at pointing a barrel at someone and them pointing it at me. after that intense and learned venture in my life, i grew my hair and became more pagan-like, found my niche in the world, and find peace in nature.

no matter what your background or myopic tendencies, dr. paul represents freedom to be able to express those choices. this is why i support him, this is the country i defend, this is the country i will die for.
